Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course
About
Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course is situated along the banks of the Sacramento River. The course has a diverse layout with a few tough holes, but overall it's player friendly enough to appeal to players of all skill levels. Accuracy and proper club selection are two major factors to scoring well on this golf course. This is especially true on the par-4 sixth, which has a large lake that makes cutting the corner a near impossibility. Too far left and you'll face a watery grave on this tough hole. That is not the only challenging water hole you'll face, though. Bartley Cavanaugh's 17th is the golf course's signature. Although this par 3 is seemingly mild at only 107 yards, it shouldn't be underestimated since it was modeled after the notorious island green hole at TPC Sawgrass.

The greens were very well maintained
The greens were pretty nice..... fairways were maintained...... tee boxes were recently punched...... I wish the pro shop would tell you these conditions when you check in...... water juggs were put out late and the beverage cart was a joke...... the girl didn't ask if you needed anything and then she just sat by some little shack for about a hour....... I booked this tee time as a single and the threesome was a foursome ..... so we played as four carts and one walker..... me...... needless to say we were held up on every tee
Challenging island hole.
This course failed to mentioned there was a high school tournament that clogged everthing up. We barely finished 9 holes. Paid 23 buck with court.
Good course to get your confidence up if your game is down.
The course has many relatively short holes where you can sharpen your short irons to fire at the pins for birdie opportunities.
easy and fun
If you are new to the game, it a great introduction to full length courses. Very hilly, so accuracy is rewarded. Around the greens are a bit too easy without many sand traps, but the island 17th is incredibly fun. The next hole location is poorly listed, so I saw people play the wrong hole twice! The starter let us on early as a twosome and finished just under four hours walking.
Sad day at Cavi
My friend an i have played Cavi for years, we are regulars.
The way the staff acts and responds to us and people in general is becoming appalling and distasteful.
One "service oriented" Staff member in particular (Ricardo)
Made the experience at Cavanaugh, hands down the worst. This was not an isolated incident Ricardo has been an issue too long,
To the point of having to right such a negative review of a golf course that good be an outstanding public course, if not for the horrific customer service. If i were Mr Morton, i would think i would demand that my staff be welcoming, appreciative, and over the top
Courteous to its guests (especially regulars). And you think they
Would not want to push their cliental to the point of writing negative reviews, i know if it were my business it would disturb me a lot. I would think at least the employees should take customer awareness or sensitivity courses, possibly direct Ricardo in another direction that has no dealings with the public.
All in all Bartley Cavanaugh was not and is not a place to relax and play some great golf.
Hills, trees and water require straight but not long drives to score well.
Greens were in good shape, however, parts of the course were over-watered. Sand traps were all wet and could stand to have more sand; about 2 inch of sand before hitting the clay base making sand shots harder than needed.
Good Bargain Course
This course is good for the price. It's location is away from the city which makes it typically nice and clear during late tee times.
Enjoyable course!
Links like features in a a very walkaable course. Great value.
Thiscourse is worth playing for the golf and the friendly service at the Grille.
The greens had just been punched and the staff failed to mention this when checking in. The rest of the course was in pretty good shape and I enjoyed playing it. I was disappointed there was no beverage cart and the Club 7 snack shack on the course was not open. When paying over $40.00 for a round I have come to expect these things to be available. The staff and the food at the Grille inside the clubhouse were excellent.
Great course and has some good challenges to it!
Staff was very friendly, all groups played at good play speed, and course was very well maintained! Clubhouse has very good food as well!
Shot Lowest Round of my Life Here
I am a solid 15 or 16 handicap but I have potential to go low on occasion. It was here that I shot the low round of my life...a 76 and that was with one ball in the water. The course is fairly short but there are a few manly holes to be found. The course has always reminded me a smaller version of TPC Sawgrass complete with an island green on #17. It is a fun course to play and one you feel you should do well on, but end up shooting higher than you thought you would.
good value.
Overall great value and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The only negative was the snack shack woman departed in the afternoon and jumped on a beverage cart and we couldn't locate her:-(.
Nice Course
BC was well-groomed; fairways and greens kept up nicely. Wish the course was mowed better (dead clippings looked a week old at least). This being said, I will be back to play this links-style course!
for the money, a great course
we play this course at least twice a month, 10 months per year. yesterday, with virtually no one on the course post 1pm, we quickly caught up to the group in front of us, and were dismayed to see a 5-some. and, they were a SLOW 5 some. we ended up needing to skip an entire hole, or wait around forever (we were a 2-some). we understand that a 2some is going to play faster than a 4some. but do you really need the money THAT bad to allow a 5some?
that type of attitude, while it may get you a 5some for the day, will likely lose you a 2some that plays 20 times per year.
Fun course off the beaten path in Sacramento
Narrow fairways and some scenic water hazards make this course challenging and enjoyable. If you play the Gold (back) tees the distances are on par with more expensive courses. The greens were in great condition and soft enough in the summer heat to land it close and make it stick. I-5 borders the east side of the course, but with a row of well placed trees I barely noticed the 4 lanes of busy traffic (and only on a couple of holes). Overall, this was a great course for the value and proximity to downtown Sac. If you are in town for business or a local, I would definitely give this course a try.
Holes 17 & 18 are small representations of TPC Sawgrass. Island green 17 & tough finishing hole on 18 with the wind in your face.
I've been playing this course a bunch over the past 8-10 years w/my family & it's a great value for the $$$. Fun and decently challenging course to play. We love to walk it...you should try it too!
There were no marshals to keep pace of play!
This course also has no beverage or food until after 10:30 AM nore do they care! They cart personal has a major problem, he never speaks when spoken to. I've play at this course more than 5 times in the am an its always the same! I will never come back again!!!!!
Fun, short track
Fun course,, Only hit driver 2 times. wide open fairways and soft greens. Lots of birdies to be made for the avg. golfer. What makes this course for me,,, is the feeling that you don't have to hit the ball a mile to reach. most par 4's are low 300yds, so no need to hit driver,,, i went 3wood, 6-9 iron in... I live in Stockton and drove there(about 35mins) and well worth it,, will be back,,, for sure.
A Shorter Course, But...
At around 6000 yds from the Blue Tees, Bartley Cavanaugh has to be a considered a shorter non-executive course, but the layout proves to make up for this with some challenges. There are some tight tee shots and fairway areas, but not on every hole. We played in the heat (over 100) so the course traffic was very light and that made it seem the course was ours. With some shorter par 4's one has a choice of how to play the holes with irons, hybrids, or fairway woods off the tee, but there are also several driver holes. The Greens run pretty true and can be fast. This course will allow you to play almost all the clubs in your bag and the best part about the course is it's Fun to Play!
