Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course
About
Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course is situated along the banks of the Sacramento River. The course has a diverse layout with a few tough holes, but overall it's player friendly enough to appeal to players of all skill levels. Accuracy and proper club selection are two major factors to scoring well on this golf course. This is especially true on the par-4 sixth, which has a large lake that makes cutting the corner a near impossibility. Too far left and you'll face a watery grave on this tough hole. That is not the only challenging water hole you'll face, though. Bartley Cavanaugh's 17th is the golf course's signature. Although this par 3 is seemingly mild at only 107 yards, it shouldn't be underestimated since it was modeled after the notorious island green hole at TPC Sawgrass.

my new favorite course
BCGC is my new favorite course! Loved the water holes, rolling fairways and fast greens. A beautiful walk in the park with clubs in hand.
Thanks BC.

So you think a 122 slope is a "piece of cake". Think again!
First, let me set the stage. I'm a 70 plus year old with bone cancer, in remission, but still hit the ball 230-250 yards routinely. I played this course years ago during it's infancy and did not like it because the fairways were close together and balls were flying everywhere. The fairways today are obviously close together, but the course has matured and trees line most of the fairways providing a barrier. I've played a lot of courses lately, but this is the tightest I have played. You have a short iron to the green if you're long and straight (290-300 yards) on many holes. Accuracy is a must for almost all shots or you will find yourself addressing a downhill, uphill or side hill lie in inch and a half thick grass. The course does have a neat little colored booklet depicting each hole and how to play it and the green. I wished I had looked through it prior to playing. I will play this course again, but hopefully not in 108 degree weather like yesterday. The big Arnold Palmers were a welcomed addition at the nineteenth hole.
Nice course for a small area
Some of the holes were very tight. But I liked the layout and course was in good shape. I play Granite Bay alot and would recommend it to my friends. I played afternoon so the green were a little bumpy.
Course is better than ever!
Since Morton take over course is looking better and better fairways have 3 cuts and greens are fun more people need to repair divots
Trees getting bigger everyday and delta breese makes this ideal for after noon walking round
The greens and fairways are in excellent shape!!
The staff are super friendly, the greens and fairways are in excellent shape!!
Fairways and greens are in great condition.
Pace of play was fast great. The course was in great shape.
Great local course
Great local course, great shape, fun layout, good staff, new carts, it is my get away local course. Love Bartley
Not the nicest course but worth a play
Very short with lots of water but pretty easy. Big issue with geese deystoying the course. The areas around the water are not very well kept, actually kind of gross. The marshall was on a serious power trip, there was construction on the cart path so we parked on the grass and he flipped out. Payed $31 on a Saturday afternoon, probably wouldn't of payed much more than that to play here.
not easy, not overly hard, but very challenging
we found this course (which we had never played b4) to be quite challenging,,not particularly long, but unreachable par 4's 4 us (310-347 yds), overall challenging
The pace was slow
The pace was slow and greens need some maintenance
Fairways lush
Went out after the Masters. 5 O'Clock tee time and finished all 18 at 8. Even had time to hit multiple balls and practice some chips. The course was in great shape. Lush fairways. Greens a little slow from recent aeration. Almost fully recovered. Not bad for $10.99. (walking)
A very good tract for golfers of all levels.
Good course, however greens were recently aerated, which did not bode well for putting. Otherwise, course was in good condition.
fast greens
Well the course may be shorter in length, it makes in character. Greens are usually firm and making putting a challenge.
Pace of play greatly affected the rating
This course is beautiful and well maintained. The staff is friendly and accommodating. It has a great layout for people of all skill levels. However, for the second time in a row that I've played there, the pace of play was excruciatingly slow... especially for a shorter course. It's the closest to my home and I've enjoyed many games there but recently there is little, if any, regulation of who tees off and when. Therefore, what should be a wonderful day becomes a frustrating 18 holes of "hurry up and wait". As soon as this issue is addressed and remedied, I'll be the first to give it 5 stars.
Arrived early, asked if I could go off the back and they had no problems.
I arrived an hour early and not only did they honor the golfnow price I booked but they let me go off the back as a single during mid morning play. Great Staff, greens are slippery and hard in the morning and get a little stomped out by afternoon. Fun course.
unprofessional information
the greens are filled with sands but players were not informed at check in or on the internet including in golfnow website
Condition wise this city course is the best of the bunch
We've played Bartley many times before but this was our most pleasant experience. Our tee time allowed us to be one of the first groups out and since we were a twosome, the round was only three hours. The course conditions were great for this time of year; we got ton of roll in the fairway. Also, the greens were in great shape- sneaky fast!
The greens were very challenging
We were able to start our round earlier than scheduled which was nice. The course does not have a driving range. I was charged for a cart - when I was under the impression the cart was included in the promotion - Was not told where to return the cart - so as I was taught - you put something back where u got it unless told otherwise - when I did this I was told to "Next time you take the cart around the building" - I appreciated that so greatly - there will not be a next time.
Nothing exciting
Didn't like having to wait for a cart. Kind of a confusing layout. Good course to practice your accuracy on. It's about an hour from home, and I'd probably play there with a bunch of friends, but I wouldn't go all that way just to take an afternoon off -- there are other courses closer that are more entertaining.
A nice "muni" golf course
The greens of this golf course were relatively quick. That's a good thing, because I like fast greens. And they were in pretty good shape, too. The golf course is built on land that should only hold about 14 holes, not 18. What I mean my that is that the fairways are pretty toght and there are some holes where one might be well advised to wear a hard hat. But the course was nice, the staff is friendly and I had a good day.
Gotta go by Freeport bar and grill to grab a drink and a bite to eat. They got great food.
