Hyde Park Golf Club
About
Hyde Park Golf Club, built in 1925 by Donald Ross, is one of the oldest in Florida. In 1971, the golf course was purchased by former touring professionals Billy Maxwell and Chris Blocker, who have successfully restored it.
Rolling hills, gorgeous Spanish Oaks and towering Southern Pines make Hyde Park a lasting experience. A tour stop for the men's and women's professional golf tours in the 1940s and 1950s, the golf course gained a place in history during the 1947 Jacksonville Open. The great Ben Hogan took an 11 on the par-3 sixth, which became known as "Hogan's Alley." It has a deep-faced bunker to the right and water to the left.
Hyde Park Golf Club measures 6,468 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71, and it has a slope rating of 124.

A beautiful old course
I had a great day for new golfer and for my 1st time at Hyde park I was impressed
Great course but it needs maintenance
The layout of the course was good and we really enjoyed playing there. The greens and especi the sidewalks could use some maintenance. Clubhouse is under renovation so that’s taking care of.
Keep on keeping on
Hyde Park has been going through some renovations. So pardon the dust and expect some imperfections but they have done some great work out there and I commend them for not selling out and keeping this beautiful public course available. Please support local golf and play this course
Tee boxes, fairways, and greens are poorly maintained
Going backwards
Bad shape hope they get it together soon I believe they will to much history
Fairway’s & Tees
Several
Some were great and some were poor. Overall the course is in good condition.
Great course with many updating features happening. One of my favorite courses .
I recently started playing once a week and had forgotten about this hidden gem. The course has some very challenging holes and the greens were in nice condition. There is a lot of up dating going on and I’m looking forward to seeing the final results. The staff is always professional and kind. I love this place so much I’m Considering becoming a member.
Cart path only?
Got super bunched up yesterday off the tee box. No starter in sight. A single ranger who was himself occasionally playing golf instead of managing the flow.
On top of all that it was cart path only on a super hot day. Maybe 3 holes should have been cart path only. This decision greatly compounded the delay.
Lastly the carts are smart carts that alarm when you go into areas that you aren’t supposed to drive but there are a couple holes with no cart path or signage of where to go.
The overall course seems mismanaged,
Never know oldest Jax course
Well kept greens and fairways. Clubhouse been out of commission for quite some time know though.
Historic course but needs some TLC
As we venture around Jacksonvilles courses this one caught our eye given it was designed in 1925 and has been host to a few championships back in the day
The clubhouse is sadly been totally renovated so the portacabin set up was not a great first impression but the course was fairly easy, fairly straight but tees, greens and cart paths do need some renovation also
Not sure why Ben Hogan would take a 11 on the par 3 back in the JaX open , 1947 but that nostalgia does mean you have some good takeaways from the course. Course was pretty empty but also slow but it was a cloudy afternoon and we were playing better than usual
Will we be back-it’s quite a drive out there and there are better options for the price considering the condition of the course
Oldest Jax Course
Very well maintained. Greens, fairways and bunkers well managed. Clubhouse closed for renovations.
Historic but pretty straight forward course
We continue our weekly challenge of a new course and this week found is at a very straight Hyde Park Course
Club house is presently a cabin due to a facelift , greens and tee boxes weren’t great and cart paths were full of potholes. Not a busy time but pretty enjoyable if not really exciting. Holes are pretty simple in design, not a lot of hazards and totally flat.the history of the course is what makes it and scoring far lower than a Ben Hogan 11 on the par 3 5th? Was the highlight. Having two giant telephone poles go through the course is a unique touch and while we enjoyed this , it wasn’t inspiring . Quite a drive out from the beaches and glad we experienced it but unlikely to go back
Value for money -yes due to the low green fee but the condition of the course is pretty poor
Until they fix the greens...
Been playing Hyde Park for 40 years. The tree work, the filling in of some bunkers, the cart path work, actually having a cut-line in between the fairway and rough are all very admirable. But, until you fix the greens, you are a 2-Star course. I can over look everything from the abomination of a clubhouse that should be raised, to no beverage cart or snack shop, to the ranger who is harassing you every other hole, even though you are waiting on the five-some ahead of you, But if I cannot roll a putt, I don't want to play your course, it is simply no fun to not be able to putt. Everything else can be dealt with, bad green cannot. This course is for beginners, not for good players that want to play the ball down and shoot a number.
Not user friendly.
They do nothing about slow play or people playing music while playing. They have a gps cart system that leaves you stranded and there is no rhyme nor reason to were they don't want the carts to go and the restricted areas are not roped off. Most of the tee boxes are dirt. The course has gone downhill while they 'beautify the course by removing trees. The 'clubhouse' has been under repair for 5 years and all they offer is a tent with bench tables and a food truck. This is not a golfer friendly course
