Wonderful Course
Course was in excellent condition and the staff was great as usual. Tracy always does a wonderful job.
Good Course / Better Staff / Great Experience
I have played PWGC many times growing up in the area, I have never seen the course run as efficiently and as accommodating as it has since they hired Tracy Clark. She has made a lot of positive changes at the course and has improved the experience. On September 14th, we had a large group of 32 and the pace of play was fantastic. I was shocked at how quickly they checked us in, got us to our carts and out on the course. As a husband, I can't take all day to play 18 holes - so getting a round in under 5 hours is a top priority. They've done a great job of speeding up play and it definitely comes in to consideration when choosing a place to play on Saturdays. Keep up the good work, thanks!
Fair at best.
I have played this course many times over the last 14 years, and was bery disappointed with the conditions. I had an early afternoon tee-time and upon arrival was informed that the course was only open for 9 holes because the greens were being aerated. The back nine holes were closed and the front nine greens were covered with sand. The pace of play was poor, and there was no monitoring of pace of play from the staff. It was somewhat of a free fore all. The tee boxes were Not well maintained and much the same for the fairways. It is too bad that the course superintendent decided to perform the aeration just before Labor Day weekend.
PW
Just have to shout out to PW and their staff. Played beers and bogeys Friday night and had a blast. Tracy and her personality with her staff make it a great time every time. Thought we’d be rained out but no joke the sun came out right before and it was a great time. She went above and beyond and brought beverages out to our hole without even hesitating and once we all came in and lingered WAY TOO LONG she politely got us out of there without feeling like we were being the nuisances we were!! Huge asset!!! We will be back again next month and thanks again!
Pace of play
Everything in the course in good. Waiting 5 minutes in each tee box because of slow golfers. A Marshall would be a great idea. Even when we called the pro shop, they did not do anything about it.
Great Course, VERY difficult for the average Weekend Warrior
I was paired with a guy (Jim, i believe) that used to be the club pro from what the starter told me. He had to go to get physical therapy after hole 7 because of the slow pace of play that morning. Thankfully he left because while the pace of play in front of us was slow, there was nothing we could do, yet he was constantly throwing out advice, talking about how great he was, what people should do on a golf course, flooring the gas and spinning out every time he used the golf car, and acting like he owned the whole joint.
As soon as he left the other gentleman (that was his friend or trainee) and myself had a great time, relaxed, and played quickly without all the rushing and pressure.
On the good side, this course is one of the better maintained and even designed courses in the DC metro area, especially at the price point. I would say it could use some additional signage to assist those that aren't familiar with the course, once we lost boss hog we had to ask twice where the next hole was.
It's also really difficult for even an above average golfer (which is great), If you only play a handful of times a year this is not the course for you. The greens are ridiculously challenging, it would take a handful of times on the course to even start to really be able to understand all the complexities of those hilly greens, especially with different pin configurations.. The sand traps are really hard to get up and down from, and there are a handful of holes that have unseen hazards or hills that aren't apparent from the tee box.
The course is open enough that their are shots to be made, but you are better off laying up than sitting in the rough, at least this day. The rough doesn't look all that intimidating but both my cart and boss hogs' ran over balls and I walked on three or four. Essentially, if you aren't someone in the fairway make sure you stop for an extra couple sleeves of balls.
The Clubhouse is not much to write home about, but you are also just a few minutes away from plenty of spots to find a 19th hole or some food.
Also, the website says this is a walk-able course. While it could certainly be done, I can't imagine how slow the pace of play on the course would be with a handful of walking groups. This course is full of hills and not all that enjoyable of an experience unless you playing near a zero handicap.
Always a Great Course to Play!
Have played here many times and will play here again! Course conditions have been great, staff is always friendly and the course is always a challenge. In the past, the pace of play has been slow, but recently has improved greatly. One of the best courses in PWC.
Loud
This course is fun and ok all around. The one issue I have is there is always so many distractions and loud things going on. There was a guy in the first and second hole and 5 and 11th going to town with a chainsaw that never stopped and you couldnhere it on the whole course. I’m the middle of a swing there guys came across the fairways with mowers and tractors. And when teeing off on the 11th there was a worker blowing off the back deck of the clubhouse with a leaf blower. Like I said the course is ok just wish the workers respected the golfers and game a little more.
Great course - even better people.
One of my favorites in the NOVA area - the staff is incredibly friendly and always helpful. The course has an awesome layout and very challenging at times. Conditions were perfect.
Make the drive
This course is a little bit far out from DC but it’s a must play! Course layout was great, course condition was fantastic. Greens were quick and in great shape. My tee time was for 6am and I was in my car headed home by 9:15 (and was not rushing by any means) so pace of play was great. $32 for 18 and a cart is a really good price for any course but a steal for a course like this one. Make the drive and go play PWGC
Good course
This course had a great layout and was a lot of fun to play. The only negative thing I would say is the bunkers are not sand they are clay dirt that is very hard. I didn’t want to hit out of them so I placed my ball out of the bunker to hit. Other than that the course was great and I had a lot of fun. I will go back and hope they get some sand in the bunkers.
Great course
Only issue was that it looked like they aerated the greens a few days prior. Besides that, no issues.
Great Public Course
I played late Saturday evening .. open course with good greens for only $29 plus a free drink. Challenging course but fair.
Worth the drive
Layout, tee boxes, fairways and greens all in good condition. Good combination of gettable and challenging holes. Staff is friendly, clubhouse is small but fees are very reasonable. Bob, the starter, is quite helpful. Pace of play during my two rounds there could have been a little better, but not bad. Played in 4:15 both days.
Good course for serious golfers, but the forward tees are also good for ladies and shorter hitters. I’m going back soon.
Unexpectedly impressed
Played this course many times over the years. Have never seen it in better condition not only outside but inside with the customer service as well. The course is in great shape and hasn’t looked this good in many years. There was an event on this day and although extremely busy everything went smoothly to our surprise. Inside we met with Tracy who explained the event and the hustle and bustle going on could not of been more pleasant. She offered us a free bucket of range balls for our short delay in teeing off. Also had a chat with a kid outside who took me back to my car to gather my clubs. Overall we were impressed and will be back very soon.
