1st time here

First let me say staff was excellent. Friendly no matter who it was they asked if everything was ok. When I got there I messed up the tee time by an hour. I was late but the staff member said we can still fit you in and I only had to wait 10 minutes! This was very unexpected and appreciated. The course is very forgiving but the greens were hard to get a read on. For a busy Sunday pace moved pretty good.
I will play it again

Memorial Day Outing

Great course, the course marshal and the greens keepers have been busy improving the experience here at PWGC. It is one of the few driving ranges that you can hit on the grass vice a swing altering mat. Food was good, they had a grill out back for burgers and sausages, I still wish the county would add a proper 19th hole here! Pace of play was slow for us, of course it was ....it was Memorial Day! So this was not a dig on the course, the volume of people (and non-regular golfers slowed the front 9 to a crawl

Memorial Day round

The greens were perfect, the course was in good condition, it was very busy (as expected) though we were stuck behind a group that at times were taking 5 shots just to reach the fairway 30 yards from the tee !! maybe a little help from the Marshall. Had a burger which was very very rare (but no tummy trouble yet!!) . Staff were friendly and courteous. The only thing that really caught my eye on the negative side regarding the facilities were the bathrooms, I used the gents around 11:00am in the club house and they were really bad, and it looked like they had been neglected for quite some time (not just a missed bathroom check).

Hidden gem

Except for the rough containing left over dead grass and being extremely thick this course was in great shape. The greens are tough but fair. Nice open fairways are forgiving.

Good experience! Will come back and refer!

Course was nice, great weather outside. Even though we were holding the people up behind us, he sent us to the back nine where we were by ourselves. Very peaceful! Food was good. BBQ wasn't ready when we got there but we were able to get some later when we were finished! Over all experience was 4/5 because not all employees acknowledged you when said hi (it happens) and secondly, we had to wait several times for the mowers to finish their routine! Besides that, staff was nice, courses were amateur friendly, and the the food was good and hot. I will definitely be back, and it's local!!!

Good option for beginner

Has a bit of a municipal feel to it, but I’ve gotten excellent deals on greens fees. Wide open enough, where it's a good option for beginners. If you want a reasonable round of golf without lofty expectations, I'd recommend it.

Same old course

I used to play this course as a kid. It's under new management but its still the same course. Grass tees at the driving range are beat up. Course has the same hole layout that he always had.. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are in good shape. Just an ok course. Worth spending $35 or less at.

Great value and overall good experience

Prince William was challenging but my group had a great time. Play from tee to green was moderate but we all agreed it was fair. What we said constantly is that the greens are TOUGH. If you have not played this course before be forewarned that the greens have lots of undulations and slope so putting can be challenging. Overall, we had a great outing and may do it again. The price coupled with the speed of play made this a great outing.

Be Ready for Slow Round

The course has improved enormously over the years. The greens are in good condition and roll true. Contours and pin placements can pose challenges on most holes. The biggest issue at Prince William is pace of play, but frankly, I have no clue how to improve the pace. The course gets alot of play and many players are average to mediocre players. Most are should be taking the USGA's "while we're young" promotuion to heart. Unfortunately, I don't think they get the joke. After a 5 hour round on Sunday, I guess the joke was on me.

Great value not too far from DC

Staff is very friendly and professional and helpful; we really felt important. We were paired up with two locals who were also friendly and made for a great round. Some of the tee boxes were a bit sparse, but not to the point where is affected play. Some of the forward tees are temporary while (it looks like) they are being rebuilt as elevated tee boxes. Fairways are mostly in good conditions, and the greens are in really great shape. Course is mostly open, with some forgiveness in many, but a few holes need a target shot off the tee box. Overall it is a fair course with some good challenges and in as good a shape as any muni course in the area. Round was a bit slow due to some slower foursomes up front, but other than a backup on number 3, it was tolerable for a Saturday. Most greens sloped down from back to front, allowing for some aggressive approaches, but also making for some challenging putts. The greens rolled smooth and quick. A really good deal in the DC area. The locals said the course has improved significantly over the past three years. My wife and I rate it a definite "play again" course.

The Right Price.

The course is moderately priced and was better than I expected. You don't often find good courses like this with so many open Tee times on a weekend. Beautiful setting. Just the right difficulty for a 15 + handicapper.

Much Improved

This course has come a long way in the past few years. It used to be referred to as the "Dust Bowl", but now it is very nice. The fairways and greens are in great shape.

A few of the greens are very tricky with the undulations and can have some down right evil pin positions.

Great Course for the Money

This course is always in great shape, and one of the best values for the area. With other, more expensive, course in the area, I believe this course can be overlooked when it shouldn't be. It might not be the most difficult course, but it has a nice blend of forgiveness and challenge.

Decent Municipal Course, Outstanding Staff

Prince William GC is a typical municipal course with a few noticeable exceptions. The first is the staff, which is super friendly and the starter actually gives you a pre-round intro, letting you know the water points, bathroom points, currant pace of play, local rules/policies, and more all with a smile. You don't see that even from the more prestigious clubs.

Secondly, the course layout is unique in that there are no Par 5's on the front 9, then two Par 5's back-to-back on the back 9. Not sure if they did this to try to speed up play but it's interesting if nothing else.

As for the course itself, you'll find a landscape that is well-maintained if not the highest quality. The greens are what you'll remember though, some of the most challenging greens in all of NOVA. It rained throughout my front 9 so I had to try to read wet, soft, smooth, medium speed greens with a lot of obvious and hidden breaks. Making anything over 7 feet is truly an accomplishment here, but they don't seem unfairly hard.

Due to the time and weather, I had no issues with pace of play but like any place, it can get backed up occasionally. There are normally marshals out on the course but the thin crowds didn't require them today. Very good course overall, and you can't beat the staff there.
