Greens "tricked up"

Everything about this course was enjoyable except the outrageous pin placements based on the green speeds. Balls would not hold greens, and in some cases rolled off greens by just touching a putter to back of the ball. Almost every cup was placed on a steep incline that made every situation ridiculous. Since we played the day after the US Open ended at Oakmont ended, our first thought was the greens keeper wanted to out Oakmont, Oakmont. One of PWCGC's members who knows the greens, had multiple putts roll off the greens that should have stopped within a few feet. My low handicap friend from England called the greens "a joke" and the current speeds don't match the design.

Bottom line: we won't go back and have been telling friends to not waste their time. More enjoyable choices in this same area

Great Course, fast greens

This isn't the longest course so don't expect to be hitting a lot of long or mid irons into the greens, but the speed and design of the greens make this course more challenging. They roll very true, but are certainly quick.

PINS, CARTS & TOILETS

Pin placements were an absolute disgrace. Impossible placements on more than half the holes slowed pace of play. WE ARE AMATEUR PLAYERS! Cart paths were in very bad condition and the restroom in the clubhouse is nasty. Golf carts are in poor shape.

The fairways and greens are in super shape as are most of the tee boxes. The staff at the front was friendly and helpful. No beverage cart on the course and the water containers seemed like they had old water in them.

Not worth it.

Horrible layout. You have a course that has short overall yardage, but you have a 230 yard par 3, with a 220 yard forced carry since a creek run right in front of the green? Pin locations were horrible (placed on spine of ridge, on a severe slope next to the fringe), maybe a kid placed the locations to be funny. Cart paths were horrible. not worth the money when yoy can pay the same for much nicer courses in the area like Bull Run and such.

Good Experience

Early tee time worked out well as we finished 18 holes on Sat a.m. in 3.5 hrs! Staff is friendly and course was in pretty good shape considering the rain. However, the cart paths are in HORRIBLE shape and need repaving ASAP!!! The greens are rarely flat and putting and chipping is difficult.

Great course at great price on outskirts of DC metro

Played a full 18 as a single, but paired up with three other guys for the round late afternoon with perfect weather. Arrived at the course early and the staff was amazingly friendly; gave me some tips for the course and he just gave me a bucket of balls for the range before my round. Even though I had a scheduled tee time, they are pretty flexible and allow people to tee off whenever they are ready, which I will say creates a backup at the first tee and can make on-course pace of play a bit lengthy with no marshals that I saw.

Range is sufficient; small but in fairly good condition. Only a handful of practice tees, but didn't seem difficult to get one even in the afternoon on a weekend. There was a practice green as well, but I didn't use it on this visit.

Course is in overall great condition; compared to the public courses right in and around DC, I was thoroughly impressed. Tee boxes were in good shape; fairways seemed consistent and greens were well-kept, though it shows that a lot of players neglect to fix their pitch marks. Greens can be a bit challenging depending on the hole location; on a few holes its pretty important to hit it in close if you want a chance at a one- or two-putt.

Fairways are nice and wide, making the course playable for people of all experience levels. There are quite a few green side bunkers, but I don't recall a lot of fairway bunkers. A few holes bring water into play, including a challenging par 3 on 11. Lost a couple balls in the hazards, but that was mostly from bad hits, not the course layout.

For $29 to play 18 with cart and the April special includes a free drink of your choice, you can't beat the value here. About an hour outside of DC, it is close enough to make the trip; I will definitely be coming back soon!!!

Fun to Play

For early spring, the course was in good shape. It is a fun course to play with some challenging holes. Not overly long with a couple of exceptions. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Not Worth it

Pace was the slowest and there was no field marshal.
Pin locatons were the toughest and greens are in good condition. Course maintenance is the worst and bunkers had no drainage. Not coming back.

Thank you very much for coming out to Prince William Golf Course and for your online review. Prince William was built in 1967 before the use of underground drainage for green complexes. With the course receiving over 1 inch of rain the day before we often need to put pin locations on higher ground so that the cups themselves don’t fill with water. The amount of rain is also the reason behind some of our bunkers having standing water in them. I do apologize regarding the pace of play that day. Being cart path only that day due to the rain often causes a slower than normal pace. We are working on some new programing to ensure better pace of play in the future here at Prince William. We hope you see you back out at the course in the future as we are sure you will have an enjoyable time.

5 1/2 hour round way too long

IFairways and greens in great condition but the pace of play was dreadful. Really bad when there are 2 or3 foursomes waiting on par fours and fives. Granted it was a holiday but the tee times were scheduled way too close together. If the course is in it for the money I doubt that I will come back. 5 1/2 hour round is too long.

Needed a Marshal

Pace of play could have greatly improved with a marshal. Groups jumping around and slow 4-somes throughout.

Was a little disappointed I had to wait to tee off despite having a tee time. Started was holding me to join a group with folks running late and the. Let two folks to in front of me anyway.

Good service...

Nicely maintained except cart paths are in need of repair. Pace was slow 5 1/2 hours. May play again! Bunkers were in bad shape, water and not enough sand.

Staff were very friendly, even gave me a ride back to my car after retuning the cart.

The course have been greatly improved in the last year.

The course is much improved with the new management group. I would have never played this course so late in the summer a couple of years ago but now they are watering the fairways and the course was in great shape.

Great conditions, but slow

The course is in excellent shape, but our round took well over 5 hours. More time sitting around than golfing.

Nice Course

This was my first time playing and have heard that it is much nicer now that Billy Casper took over the course. My biggest complaint is the number of 2 and 3 somes on the course. There were several places where folks could have been paired up to make more foursomes. Greens and tee boxes were in very nice shape. I will play here again.
