Faldo at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge Resort
About
Faldo Championship Course at the Wildfire Golf Club measures as long as 6,846 yards, depending on which tees you're shooting from, and lies on 174 acres and features some differences from the average desert-themed golf courses. Faldo offers abundant fairways, big bentgrass greens and tee boxes, as well as the golf course's neighboring mountains, century-old saguaro cacti and 106 sand bunkers - which remind golfers of Aussie sand-belt golf courses, which gives it a magnificent locale for golfers.
Wildfire Golf Club is much-feted: When the Faldo Championship Course opened, the Arizona Republic selected hole No. 2 among the valley's 18 best. The golf course received recognition among the 2006 Travel & Leisure Golf's "World's Best Golf Resorts" for family getaways and in the 2006 Conde Nast Traveler rundown of the "Top 100 Golf Resorts in North America." These are in addition to the Gold Tee Award from Meetings & Conventions Magazine.

Great value, fun course
This was my first time playing at Wildfire. Played the Faldo course and enjoyed it thoroughly. It coukd definitely be of a tough course due to all of the bunkers but is certainly a fair course. Course is in great condition and the weather could not have been more perfect. Definitely will be back!
Experience with Faldo
Excellent course. Slowed down the last 3 holes. Drivable par 4, followed by par 3 then long par 4.
Wildfire Faldo
Had reserved the tee time through Golf Now, at check in they said there was no tee time under my name. When I showed them the confirmation, they gave me the tee time. The two staff at check in were not complimentary of Golf Now.
Bring your sand wedge!
Course it great to play....if you can get around this course without having to use a sand wedge - you should probably quit the day job and play golf for a living! Strategically placed and one might say over penal....in some it is impossible to approach a green - but hey...others might argue THAT'S THE POINT!
Fairways are all wide enough to aim away from most of the sand - - all about risk/reward!
Course had character
Great golf course, good pace of play and a nice practice facility.it was in very good condition
A great course is in great shape.
The course is in great shape and the staff are very friendly. Lots of sand and I was in it too many times. I would go back in a heart beat.
Excellent Experience
Had the opportunity to play this facility during the week of the LPGA Founders Cup. The grounds were in perfect condition tee to green. The staff was friendly, helpful, and had great attitudes. And, the food after the round was fantastic. Our entire group commented afterwards that this was one of the best experiences we have had on the course in a long time.
Great Layout
Great Layout, lots of traps, but fairway are generous. Most of the holes you can see where to hit the tee ball. Fairways were in great shape and firm, we played 5 days before the LPGA tournament. I will play again next time I'm in Phoenix.
LPGA conflict
LPGA here this week. No access to practice facilities. No price adjustment. Play nine Faldo and nine Palmer. Least desirable holes of the thirty six. Parking also a problem.
My wife and I played the Faldo course for the first time yesterday. We were warned by the friendly staff that it has something like 175 traps, and they all seemed well positioned to influence shot choices from tee to green. Also, it is set up for an LPGA event next weekend. It was in perfect shape and the greens were very fast. Overall, it is a tough but fair track where what you see is what you get. Not once were we surprised by something we couldn't see when we hit our shot. Also, carts have a good gps system that gives a clear view of the hole and related distances. Hole variety is good, with lots of par 5s and par 3s. The long ones were reachable from the blue tees, and the short par fours were well guarded. Overall, it seemed a bit short from the blues. If I were to play it again, I'd probably play from the back tees, and I suspect that would take many of the traps out of play for my 225-240 yard drives. Mountain views were good from many of the holes. In the end, this course was well worth playing, but not our favorite in the area, especially for a fairly high price.
Late day with Faldo
I had played Wildfire before, but on a misty cold day. When I saw this late afternoon tee time for a value price on a nice day I jumped on it. I thought I might not get finished, but to my surprise the pace was great & I finished with time to spare. The course was in great shape! What seems like a thousand bunkers guard everything so either be very accurate or bring your bunker game. The carts have GPS to the flag, front, back & hazards so that really helps.
Great Course
The course was in excellent condition. Weather was in the low 80`s with a light breeze. We played the blue tees but there is not much difference from black to blue on most holes. The course is not long but there are bunkers everywhere so you need to place your shot or you will spend a lot of time in the sand. greens hold nice and roll true. This course is on my favorites list for Phoenix area golf.
Must play
Already looking forward to playing another 36 holes next year.
Beautiful Layout
Despite the crowded conditions, the pace was reasonable. The course was in very good condition but for players not fixing ball marks or grooming bunkers . Phil at the desk was awesome and the staff very friendly.
Excellent Conditions
Beautiful course that is challenging but fair. Avoid deep fairway bunkers
Happy New Year
Faldo is a placement course so you better be straight on your drives and approach shots because if you don't you're in the bunker. The course has way too many bunkers in its attempt to make it more difficult. Many of them were unkept. Word to the course, put out more rakes if you want the bunkers to be raked after play. Greens were is great shape.
