Faldo at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge Resort
About
Faldo Championship Course at the Wildfire Golf Club measures as long as 6,846 yards, depending on which tees you're shooting from, and lies on 174 acres and features some differences from the average desert-themed golf courses. Faldo offers abundant fairways, big bentgrass greens and tee boxes, as well as the golf course's neighboring mountains, century-old saguaro cacti and 106 sand bunkers - which remind golfers of Aussie sand-belt golf courses, which gives it a magnificent locale for golfers.
Wildfire Golf Club is much-feted: When the Faldo Championship Course opened, the Arizona Republic selected hole No. 2 among the valley's 18 best. The golf course received recognition among the 2006 Travel & Leisure Golf's "World's Best Golf Resorts" for family getaways and in the 2006 Conde Nast Traveler rundown of the "Top 100 Golf Resorts in North America." These are in addition to the Gold Tee Award from Meetings & Conventions Magazine.

Golfer Reviews
Faldo
The price was right, the course in excellent condition. We had an 8:15 tee time, showed up 30 minutes early to hit balls, but a member of the outside team felt it necessary for us to go to the first tee at least ten minutes ahead of our scheduled time. (Turns out the 8:05 time no showed and he was "keeping things on schedule".) Not a problem with keeping things moving, but we hurried to the first tee only to find a foursome just leaving the tee box. Classic case of hurry up and wait....However, once we mentioned this ordeal to the staff in the golf shop they assured us it would be addressed. Eric listened to our issue and said he speak with those outside.
Great layout with a ton of traps.
Had some burnt up spots in the fairway. A lot of new sod being laid around the greens. Greens a little furry and slow. Bunkers could use some attention.
Beautiful Desert Course
A great course that definitely provides a challenge. Beautiful desert scenery and a multitude of strategically placed bunkers made for a very fun round. Loved the course and will definitely return!
Wildfire Faldo review
We play the Faldo course at Wildfire. The course was in good shape. The greens were nice a bit slow for my liking but not bad since they had a lot of rain the day before. The bunkers were easy to play from since the sand was firm, some bunkers were washed out from the rain. The fairways had been thatched it looked like but the were green.
Great Value
Played in 105 degree sunshine. Lots of sand and challenging course. Great deal online. Staff was exceptional. Needed wet , cold towels-provided by the club, on the back nine. Bonus-scratch player joined our group. Amazing to play with someone who drives the ball 340 yards down the middle.
Beautiful Layout
Course was in great shape except for the greens. Very very bumpy and inconsistent speed. With good greens this course would be fantastic.
Faldo course was a great test from the back tees !!
Teed off early and once I got around 2 slow groups I finished in less that 3 hours.
Bring your short game
Awesome course with PGA quality layout. Sand traps are plentiful and protect the greens at every hole. Fairways are big and bountiful, easy to stay inside the lines. Greens had just under gone airiation and were too bumpy to plan your putts with any high degree of success. Overall, beautiful course, fair degree of difficulty and friendly staff. Would have offered 5 stars if the greens had not been under maintenance. Looking forward to playing again.
If you have Distance Clips, this course is for you!
As many traps per square feet thank grass around the greens. Play the green, not the traps. Distance Clips helped me negotiate the course!
Faldo's bunkers
Make sure you practice your bunker game! You can't help but find 1 of the 108 on the course. Thanks Sr. Nick Faldo.
Excellent
What a pleasure to play Perfect conditions great staff perfect conditions great greens, loved it!
A pleasure!
Great setup and condition; other than a skinny bunker on 15, the course was manicured beautifully. Great speed and consistency on all greens!!!!
Short but well guarded and difficult greens
I played both the Palmer and Faldo courses at the Desert Ridge. I am a 3 hcp. player up to courses that are 7,200 yds in Florida. I found the Faldo course short, but challenging. Not a course that you can hit the driver on many par 4s and you better be accurate on the holes where you do hit the driver. The course was being setup for the LPGA tournament next week and the rough was penal. I found the greens difficult to read and undulating. They greens are also very well guarded with bunkers. It was a fun course to play.
Must Play
Wildfire Golf Club continues to be one of the finest golf experiences in the North Scottsdale area. Course conditions are always tournament ready and overall customer experience is good.
I look forward to coming back to play next time we are back in town.
Always enjoyable
Pace of play is usually good, but was especially good this day. Fairways and greens were good, but not as good as prior years (have played here for the last 10 years). But, our last minute "hot deal" was so good, that I can overlook this.
Great Experience
Lots of sand but plenty of room off the tee. I was visiting and played with some members with course knowledge which was nice. I thought the course was fair and was in excellent shape. Saw some comments about slow play but we played in 3 1/2 hours with no waiting at all. Great pro shop as well.
"bunker-ville"...a visual treat!
Faldo has used an Australian bunker scheme to give a visual impression of elevation to a generally flat landscape. As you play a hole you see lots of bunkers facing you which fools the eye as to distance and landing space. As you look back at the same hole from the green you see no sand...it all faces you on the way in! Very playable course tho can be challenging for the better player...all depends on tee choice. Great variety of holes...good course conditions and we had great pace of play.
Despite frost delay, great pace of play
Booked this on Golf Now...great rate...Wildfire has excellent facilities for practice...Faldo course has tons of bunkers but very playable and tho we started late due to frost pace of play on a Sunday was great!
