Faldo at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge Resort
About
Faldo Championship Course at the Wildfire Golf Club measures as long as 6,846 yards, depending on which tees you're shooting from, and lies on 174 acres and features some differences from the average desert-themed golf courses. Faldo offers abundant fairways, big bentgrass greens and tee boxes, as well as the golf course's neighboring mountains, century-old saguaro cacti and 106 sand bunkers - which remind golfers of Aussie sand-belt golf courses, which gives it a magnificent locale for golfers.
Wildfire Golf Club is much-feted: When the Faldo Championship Course opened, the Arizona Republic selected hole No. 2 among the valley's 18 best. The golf course received recognition among the 2006 Travel & Leisure Golf's "World's Best Golf Resorts" for family getaways and in the 2006 Conde Nast Traveler rundown of the "Top 100 Golf Resorts in North America." These are in addition to the Gold Tee Award from Meetings & Conventions Magazine.

Good value
Great staff and facilites. Course in great shape for late June
Play time
For a resort it is not a good idea to push people out at such short intervals. Ranger harassing us for being behind and pace of play was at a good speed. Made the round less enjoyable.
Faldo Wildfire
The course didn't seem to be as nice as I remember from seven or eight years ago.
enjoyable play
Paired up with extremely nice couple which made the experience more enjoyable.
Wildfire Falso
Have not been to this venue in 10 years. It has matured very well. Great Course, need to come back and play the Palmer course
A great afternoon
My wife & I played the course we were paired up with nice guy. The course was in great shape and staff was friendly. We hardly waited at all. All in all it was e great afternoon.
Great Course
The Wildfire courses are always great to play. Excellent facilities and staff. You can't beat the value for the money this time of year!
Fun
Nice design by Sir Nick. Strategy required to avoid deep fairway bunkers. Turf condition was good but not great. This possibly could be due to recent hot weather. Overall a definite must play.
Good bunkering defines this course
My wife and I played the course in about 4 hours from a 7:00 am start. The course has four tee areas which makes it enjoyable for all levels of players. The biggest challenge of the course design is the green side bunkering, which are quite deep and plentiful. Catching the bunkers can make for a long day. The course is very playable with no long forced carries or blind shots. There are condos and homes lining some of the fairways but they are set far enough back so that they don't diminish the aesthetic quality of the layout. Course condition is generally excellent but there were some wet areas from watering and a few brown patches here and there. Staff and service is always excellent. Wildfire is a course we play whenever we visit the Valley.
Great Course
Great course to play, well conditioned and the pace of play was excellent ...just under 3 hours. Lots of deep bunkers, so watch where you place your shots... but plenty of tee choices, so you can certainly play to your level of ability.
Practice with your Sand wedge
The course is beautiful and well kept, but it has 108 sandtraps. Good practice and fun to play but it is tough.
SLOW PLAY
This is the second time I've played this course and both times the pace of play was extremely slow. We teed off at 7am and didn't finish until 11:45. There is no excuse for slow play at that time of day. They tell you 4 hours when you start, don't believe it. If golfers can't keep pace, throw them off the course Rangers. Twosome playing with us told Marriot personnel on the 18th hole they wouldn't be back because of slow play and neither will us.
Excellent Ammities and Play but Poor Single Experience
First, it might be surprising why I would rate the course and facilities so high and yet not recommend the course to a friend. Wildfire has always provided top quality resort grade services and experience. The course for $59 was in great shape. The staff are always polite and accommodating. The pace of play is good, and I completed 18 holes in 4 hours. The Faldo is a course management challenge rewarding smart play and the blade over the "big stick".
So why a not recommend? I was a single paired with members. As a background, Marriot Wildfire is moving toward a membership business model. I personally have found this attracts a certain 'genre' of patrons and experience. Thus I have noted the members are not so into the resort experience, and I have twice as a single met some of the most rude, discourteous, and "Ted Knight" like obnoxious patrons. So Marriot provided an excellent experience; however, the unintended consequence of an exclusive membership culture in my opinion overrides the entire experience. I think the experience would have been highly recommend if I brought my own foursome.
Great dsy, great value
The pace was great, greens condition was very good as well as the fairways.
Practice your sand game!
Played the Faldo course and you better like playing out of the sand or be a very accurate and long player. Humbling but enjoyable. Course was in nice shape as always.
a bit over the top with the traps
We knew from reading prior reviews the 108 sand traps(according to the pro) course design would be challenging. Don't mind that errant shots or failed forced carries find bunkers but golfers should also know many good drives that hit the fairway targets often end up in traps anyway due to the fairways contour roll designs. Also, the greens were in poor condition due to the end of season heavy play traffic/ball marks.
Beautiful day at the beach!
This was the first time I played either Wildfire course. It was good value for the money and it definitely lived up to the high ratings. The course wasn't too long from the whites, and the fairways were forgiving. There was more sand bunkers than I've ever seen on a course previously. That coupled with the fast and unpredictable greens made it a challenge to hit my handicap. The scenerey and conditions were top notch. I definitely recommend this course and I'll play here again. just be prepared for lots of sand practice.
BUNKERS NEED TO HAVE ETTER SAND
SLOW PLAY FOUR HOURS AND FORTY FIVE MINUTED.
TWO HOLES OPEN AHEAD OF THE GROUP IN FRONT OF US.
WHOLE COURSE BACKED UP RANGER DID NOTHING
lots of sand
Course in good shape. Traps need better sand. Good test from blue tees.if your handicap is overv12 play white.
