Golfer Reviews
Worth the drive
Greens our in perfect condition, fairways are great and the hills are challenging!
Only if you are looking to spend a day in a swamp with swamp-creatures...
I started to worry about the day as I parked and noticed the Mustang with WAY TOO MANY awful stickers which had just passed cars waiting at security gate cutting off car ahead of me was parked in MENS CLUB CHAMPION reserved space!!! I now see that this swamp is the perfect place for a bottom feeder like himself. Chump & cronies were in group ahead & were loud, obnoxious & even though we were going through a period of heavy rains (with 90 degree rule signs everywhere...) they drove all over course as if they owned it and were alone. 4 players were on 3 carts thus making EVERY hole take longer than needed. I gave up on day & this course after only 9 holes. Played at this course since it opened and it is circling the drain & I anticipate closure VERY soon. What a sad waste of a golf course.
Enough with the water
I’ve played here many many times. God help you if this course gets rained on. I already had the reservation and didn’t want to cancel even though it rained the night before and every day before that. I understand all of that and get it 100%. What I don’t get is why on earth are the sprinklers on at 6:55am on hole number 1 on the putting green after 8-10 hours of rain the night before? STOP WATERING THE COURSE! It’s summer time, almost every day is rain. It does not make sense.
This forces 90 degree rule which in return slows down the pace of play. I felt like I was playing in the mud because it’s over watered and doesn’t leach well.
Staff is okay, they kinda seem like they’re just there and dont really care. Other than the negatives the course does have a fantastic layout.
Improving
Fairways and tees have improved. Greens were in good shape, but had been punched a week or so prior. The bunkers are an embarrassment. Just do some maintenance on the bunkers with all the other improvements and 5 Stars is right around the corner.
Hernando Oaks
The fairways and greens were in above average condition. The bunkers were unplayable with most washed out or completely filled with muddy water. Several tee boxes were also bare.
Greens
The greens had just been aeriated had I known this when I booked on golf now I wouldn’t have played. Most all other courses on gn will tell you when they have been aeriated. Plus the sand traps had more grass than sand
Good layout but needs a lot of TLC
This course has a nice layout with plenty of wide open space and hardly any home lined fairways. Greens rolled true but were still recovering from being recently punched. Fairways were good, however the bunkers are unplayable due to weeds and lack of maintenance, the rough made it incredibly difficult to find balls, even 12” off the fairway. Also areas around the greens were bare and overall the course appeared to be understaffed on the maintenance side of things. Tee boxes were all in very poor condition and hard as a rock. For $45 there are better choices closer to Tampa. Shame, could be a great course if kept up.
Bunkers
Except for the bunkers & recently punched green's; course was in great shape. One of the best layouts in the Tampa public golf area. Although, all bunkers in horrible shape. Only a few were playable. It looked like they were moving to let them grow in & eliminate them totally. & I'm not exaggerating. And it's time for new carts. I do love the course. And I will be back.
