Very poor condition
Tee boxes like concrete, little or no grass
Greens recently aerated, in addition to general very poor
Traps over 50% terrible
WATER AND CUPS AVAILABLE ON COURSE-NO
The layout is great, NO MAINTENANCE IN SIGHT ON ANYTHING
Hole in one.
I got my first hole in one on the par 3 11th hole.
Not So Good
Greens in terrible condition in addition to recently aerated.
Tee boxes were terrible condition, near impossible to place a tee into extra hard barrien ground.
Most traps unkept.
Fresh water ? Not sure as there really was any water, because if you did not bring your own cup you were out of luck..
Have played Hernando Oaks numerous and this has a great layout for a golf course, but poorly poorly maintained….
Never saw anybody working on course.
Slow
Pace of play was like the walking dead. Left after 9 holes, would have been a 5+ hour round. Need a ranger to speed up play.
Could've been better could've been worse
Was a little surprised that the pro shop was in a double wide trader, but it worked. The attendant was easily one of the rudest people I've met at any golf course I've ever played, which is well over 200. We were 30 minutes early, checked in, and said we had never played there before. He tells us "it's dead out there, you can go ahead, the carts are outside." Hands us the key to cart and turns back to us while looking out the window behind the register. I ask if we are paired up with anyone, he doesn't say anything.
We drive around looking for 1st hole, signs aren't anywhere. The starter was super nice, gave us a couple tips about the course and told us "Happy Easter."
We caught up to a group on the 2nd hole and waited 10 minutes at each tee box. At 6, another twosome begins waiting on us, so I go back and explain what's going on and ask if the want to join. They did and that was the best part of the day. We had a good time the rest of the day. The greens had just been aerated, which threw all of our putts wayward, but I can respect a course trying to maintain playing conditions.
Had a sandwich in the grill, they were slammed, but did there best to take care of everywhere. The Cuban was flat out tremendous, one of the best ever had.
Expensive despite horrendous conditions
I honestly cannot believe golf courses still get away with stuff like this in today's day and age. Still charging full prices despite aeration on greens? Give me a break. The conditions on the greens were horrendous. Sand pits all over the place. We had to move our ball to putt several times. Tee boxes were so hard we had to hammer out tees in with the wooden tee box markers. Don't charge me premium prices for a 1 star course.
Unplayable
The greens were aerated the day before and completely covered with sand. The course should have been closed a few days to allow the sand to settle.
They closed only one day to punch the greens.
We either had someone blowing the greens or a complete beach as a putting green.
review
Hernando Oaks is always in fine condition; the greens were fast and smooth...fairways, nice and wide and cut close....not too much water or sand hazards which is good for the high handicapper.....but a bit long ( at nearly 5500 yds from the orange tees )......it's always pretty busy, but the two of us took just 4 hours to play a full round...not too bad! Looking forward to going back again some day soon....
Nice layout
Course has a nice layout. Greens are very fast. Some of the tee boxes need a lot of work. Traps were not raked.
Slow day
We like Hernando Oaks, but not on this particular day. Not knowing there was a scramble in progress, we ended up behind the last group who were two holes behind the rest of their colleagues. Not even the rangers could speed them up.
On 14, after 4 1/2 hours, we left. Waste of time and money.
One of the better golf courses
Greens were at a great pace and rolling true
As always love the contours and the challenges posed around the greens
Fun experience!!!
