About
The Silverthorn Country Club golf course has earned its challenging 132 slope rating through a combination of rolling terrain, unpredictable Florida Gulf Coast winds, and no less than 96 strategically-placed bunkers. Joe Lee designed this course and it offers a mixture of wide-open links-style holes and tight, tree-lined fairways. The 25,000 square foot clubhouse offers a scenic vista of Silverthorn's championship golf course, surrounding lakes and splendid Florida sunsets. Dont waste your money
The back nine is basically all dirt. No fairways. The Front nine is not much better.
Extremely slow
3 1/2 front nine. No rangers to keep play pace going. Uncourteous slowing play and not letting even singles play thru. Manage to get second nine done in 3 hours because groups ahead left early and didn’t finish.

Good value
The greens were good, fairways were so-so. The course is centrally located making it easy to get to. Will return in the future.

Greens good shape
With lack of rain this time of year and heavy use, greens where in good shape. Fairways dont get watered so dry. I played in a 5 some and we waited most every shot. But all in all like the layout and greens where good.

Greens are good fairways are not sand traps have no sand just hard pan

Barley Doing Enough
Fairways cut to low and in some areas there are sand patches no grass. The greens need work, the "third cut" has same issue as the fairways.
It appears for the last five years they are doing just enough to keep the course in fair-to average condition.

TOO MANY burned out/bare fairways
It is so strange to me, does any Florida golf course plant golf seed ?
(I'm referring to planting Bermuda grass, not over seeding)
There were so many burned out portions of fairways, that I lost count.
Can't tell you how many times I had to hit off dirt in the fairway.
Strangely the tees and greens were in pretty good condition ?
Such shame, good course with what appears to be very little or very bad maintenance.
I would not recommend playing the course until the Florida rainy season, where, HOPEFULLY, the fairways will come back.

Sandtraps
The course was in a fair condition but there was way more sand traps then I was prepared for and the restaurant was not open on Monday which was disappointing

Great value
The layout is very good , challenging. The fairways are a bit sparse in spots but the greens more than make up for it. They are large, undulating and in very good condition. I have played a number of public courses in the area and they all have spotty fairways but none of the others have as good a layout or greens and tees for that matter as this course.

Slowest ever
Thought afternoon round would move along but took 2.5 hours to play 9.. too long for me so I quit after nine.
