Meadowlark Golf Course
About
Meadowlark Golf Club in Huntington Beach is a player-friendly layout that is a popular choice amongst locals. Like most classically designed layouts, the course is short and tight but that also makes it easily walkable. The pin placements on the greens can be tricky and there are also some challenging water hazards that come into play on several holes. The golf course will test your short game skills but there are wide, player-friendly fairways that balance the trickier elements. Beware, though, numerous trees on the golf course make many of the tee shots tight and narrow. It is not an overly difficult layout but it is an enjoyable round that players of any skill level will enjoy. Meadowlark also offers affordable rates that make it doubly appealing.

Flooded
The course is totally flooded right now. Almost every hole has severe water issues. All holes are cartpath only. One whole they cut 100 yards off the Teebox because the fairway is so flooded. I would not recommend playing this course until May.
Played in the rain course held up well though. Got a good deal off GOLFNOW was worth the price
Thanks for the 5-Stars and the kind words!
Not a great value round
The round cost $70 and it was cart path only which isn’t the worst. I didn’t understand CPO when there were at least 6 course maintenance workers driving all over the course and greens. Also, it was unacceptable for that price with poor drainage leading to lakes in the middle of 4 fairways and the awful smell that was associated. I’ve played many times and brought 3 new friends and they’ve said they won’t be returning after everything I listed.
The rain certainly impacts us pretty hard here at Meadowlark with our 100+ year old golf course. We do hope you'll give us another chance once the weather brightens up and things dry out.
Thank you for the 4-Stars!
Wet and slow
The course is very wet. That made it even slower than a normal Sunday. Round took 6 hours
While we do our best to manage pace of play, the cart path only designation along with come very long rough leads to come longer round times. We hope you'll come back once we get things dried out.
Course Flooded + Pace of Play
I've played it before and liked it, but won't be back for the foreseeable future.
Course is basically flooded from the rain with about half the holes having lakes in the middle of the fairway.
Add in a tournament on Sunday afternoon - we were 4 hours in and through 11 before skipping three groups that had two entire holes open in front of them. The marshall said it was a tournament for money so not much could be done. Played 14-18 with zero wait, group we skipped was on 16 when we finished. No thanks.
We're sorry to hear about your experience and hope you'll give us another try once we can get the course dried out. Unfortunately weekend pacing has been slower than normal given the cart path only designation along with some very difficult rough.
Rain made for poor conditions
Course is o. The rough was too high and mud everywhere. I understand this is due to the recent rains.
We definitely appreciate your understanding regarding the course conditions. Unfortunately with our 100+ year old course we do not have any real drainage to help dry things out. While our maintenance staff does the best they can with pumps to move water, it still takes us a while to get dried out. Hopefully you will join us again once the weather turns and we can get things dried out.
Great course. Rain water still a problem
I played Meadowlark on 2/16. The course is always in good condition. Unfortunately, the recent heavy rains have left a lot of water on the course. They are doing the best they can to pump it out, but it may take some time to get the course back to normal. Tees and greens were in excellent shape. Fairways were great too except were some flooding is present. Some rough areas were a bit swampy thus carts were still required to stay on paths. Looking forward to getting back out there once it dries out a little more.
Thanks for the kind words and 4-Star rating! We are working hard to get the course dried out but in a tough spot with not much drainage to speak of on our 100+ year old course!
Couse was full of standing water. Greens were good condition. Pace of play was good, no waiting.
Thanks for the 4-Stars Mike! Looking forward to drier days ahead!
Thank you for the 4-Star rating!
Puddles and Close Calls
The course doesn’t have good drainage, so I would definitely wait a week or two after it rains to play on here. Besides that, the layout of the course is terrible. We had a lot of close calls with balls flying in all directions and people from other holes hitting their ball from our hole.
10 years away from golf
Have played about 6 times in the last 5 months. Prior to that, I hadn’t played for approximately 10 years, when I was playing 2-3 times per week, but not really getting any better, so literally turned my back on the game. Had played Meadowlark during that time, and it beat me up. I am now retired, and have immersed myself into golf, and enjoying it more now, than ever. This time, Meadowlark did not beat me up. It still beat me, but not as bad as before. My game is much better at this time of my life, and I am much more relaxed. Had a great time with my son, and two guys that joined us, and they were awesome, and so was my day.
Great to hear you're getting back into the game! Really appreciate the kind words about our course here and the 5-Star rating. Looking forward to seeing you out on the course more in the near future!
Thank you for the 4-Star rating!
Thanks for the 4-Stars!
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a 3-Star rating. Looking forward to meeting your expectations and adding a couple more stars the next time you visit!
Thanks for the 5-Stars!
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a 3-Star rating. Hoping to provide an even better experience the next time you join us for a round!
Flooded fairways
I played Meadowlark on 1/7/24 and the majority of the fairways were underwater. I don't recall it raining recently so obviously the course doesn't drain well at all. Even with all that water on the course they are still charging $83 which makes no sense to me. OK course and very overpriced, stay away in the winter!
Our drainage is certainly an issue we fight throughout the winters here. Unfortunately when the course was built in 1922, drainage was not a part of the construction. We do our best to pump water out of areas and create drier conditions but things are certainly soggy during the winter/rainy times. We hope you'll come join us for a round once the weather turns and we get some warmer temps.

We are definitely experience some issues here given the heavy winter storms and our 100+ year old golf course. Our staff is working dilligently to get the water pumped anywhere we can off the course but unfortunately it is a slow process. The lowest points of the course (holes 14/15 and holes 10-12) are the major issues and we are close to getting the water off the course and allowing the grass to rehabilitate. Looking forward to seeing you back on the course once everything dries out and we are back to normal conditions.
