18 hole at Sherman Hill GC Photo submitted by Gilbert3585586 on 05/24/2013
Gets better every time
This course is a hidden gem in Florida. The price, layout, and fantastic conditions of the fairways and greens make this a regular course on my rotation. It is about 45min-1hr away from home and I’d drive out here every time. Will continue to return to this course as long as the owners maintain this level of of quality.
Glad I finally visited
I've driven by numerous times, but finally got a chance to play 18. Course was in pretty good winter conditions, rough was a little iffy, but greens were in good shape and rolled true. With the exception of playing behind a shotgun start league, it was a wonderful time on a unique Florida Course. I will definitely consider playing again when prices in the Orlando area are ridiculously high, can't beat the 50.00 pricing
sherman hills much better
Had played Sherman Hills in years past and thought there were some holes that were nearly unplayable due to the greens being basically dirt painted green. WOW, was I surprised when I played it recently. ALL greens are in very good shape and not painted at all. Some tee boxes are a little chewed up but overall very enjoyable round. Will be back.
Enjoyable Afternoon
Course is in good condition, friendly staff. Played at 2:00 today with my wife, 3.25hrs playing as a twosome for $46.00 with cart. Driving range and practice bunkers. Would definitely return.
Be up for the Challenge!
Neat course. Pretty challenging with fairway ridges and fast greens. Layout was pretty cool. Nice staff and good pace of play. Would play there again if in the area.
Nice course
It's a good course, the greens are great, the tee boxes and fairways are good, just needs a little TLC in places to make it a top course. What really surprised me is the starter told us we could drive up to and around the greens to the fringe, It won't take long before there is no grass by the greens if you don't change that in a hurry.
Enjoyed
The course was great. Pace of play was a little slow but not real bad. It was backed up for a few holes. Group behind us I guess they thought by hitting into us several time the groups in front of us would play faster. We were a 2 some. On the 12 hole we had enough and told them hit into us again it’s wasn’t going to be good. They finally I guess figured it out and stopped. I mean almost every tee we had to wait. Not them they would bring there carts right behind ours make comments. Finally enough was enough. Other than that we liked the course.
Vastly improved
My wife and I typically come to Florida for several weeks in Jan/Feb each year and usually play Sherman Hills once or twice each time. The attraction was always that it was relatively cheap and an interesting, fairly easy layout. The drawback was that several greens on the back were more sand and green paint than grass. The good news is that the problem greens have been fixed! From looking at their website, this happened last August before the hurricane and they came through just fine. The course is in terrific shape. The Brooksville/Dade City area has more standing water than I've seen in the 20 years that we've been coming down here, and the back 9 at Sherman Hills still has water in spots that are usually dry. Not everything is pristine - the range and small practice green are still a bit rudimentary (about 50% of the range balls have he dimples worn off), but overall the course is very enjoyable.
Fun course
The course is in very good shape and the greens roll true
Match up twosomes
Brutal when you have tons of twosomes and hit and wait because of 3-4 somes..Plus cost the course $$. Makes for lousy pace of play. Send them off in 3 or foursomes
Play here about once a year when I'm down in FL, and was pleasantly surprised about the new greens on the back (14, 15 &17?) that were always a problem. Course is always a good value and in pretty good shape otherwise. If they could get the restaurant/bar going this would be the best public value in the county.
