Hell's Point Golf Club
About
When Hell's Point Golf Club opened in 1982, Golf Digest called it one of the best new courses and it was ranked as one of the 100 best-designed courses in the country. Renowned architect Rees Jones designed the course. He incorporated the many natural features provided by the golf course's location in the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The fairways are edged with saltwater marshes and Jones included his signature sculpted bunkers along the greensides. Just a stone's throw from the ocean, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The second hole is one of southeastern Virginia's toughest golf holes with out-of-bounds to the left, trees to the right, and a sloped fairway that leads to a well guarded, double-tiered green. This par 4 is the no. 1 handicap hole at When Hell's Point Golf Club.

Fun & Challenging
Very good fairways & greens. Much better than the average course in Virginia Beach. Very nice savings booking thru Golf Now.
First time, but will not be the last
Great round!! Staff at the clubhouse got us out and started promptly. Course was very quiet, except for the occasional jet noise.
Nice lay out of course with challenging holes.
I was not sure I wanted to play because of their name. But it was a very pleasant staff and the course made you appreciate what it had to offer. Do not take any hole as you may see it for granted on this course. It is very difficult to visualize the course until you have played it. So I will probably have to play again.
Courses is short and tight
Course was in decent shape pace of play was a little slow that day cart girl was nice and friendly
great time
I played Hells Point golf course back when I was High School for our Regional tournament. I am glad to see the course is just as hard as it was when I was younger. Beautiful greens, plush fairways. Just an awesome day. Thank you to the staff at Hells Point.
Quality
Really enjoyed playing the course. Ruff time draining the day after a storm. Pace of play could have been better, we just happened to be stuck behind a large group. I will definately be going back but keeping one eye on the weather.
First Timer
First time playing at this course. Greens were excellent. The fairways were in decent shape in lieu of the bad winter. Great starter and rangers. Will play again next time I'm in town.
Great Find
I have played this golf course on several occasions, but this time it was in excellent shape. The greens were smooth and true and the new owner has improved the cart paths.
A must play
The staff was great as they made you feel as a local. Lots of advise from the Starter on danger areas to stay out of. Greens very fast and tricky to read some times. Got lots of roll when I drove the ball on the fairway. The view is amazing in many areas of the course. A must play and we did of course! I suggest an early start and a mid to late re-play. Do note the re-play was only $20/including cart.
Nice course in a natural setting
The only problem I have with Hells Point is they never seem to have grass on the practice tee. Other than that its a great course for the money.
Great course
Awesome facility, beautiful course. Hope I get to go back soon.
excellent
Course was in excellent condition. Staff was friendly an helpful. Can't beat playing for $21 on an 85° degree day in under 3 hours!
Do not play after a raining
This place drains poorly. It will be a swamp for at least 3 days after a rain. In 2011 fairways and greens had to be revamped after poor maintenamce. It's coming back but it a long way from 2008 conditions.
Great and challenging course
Challenging course that makes you step up your game. Beautiful layout. Greens were a little too wet due to a recent storm. Overall great course.
good for money
$40 on Sat morn at 1030, greens nice, good layout, tight fairways, easy to lose ball if tee shots are off, was early in season and right after good rain bit in nice so real sloppy and wet, staff friendly, pace of play bad because of narrowness of course, lots of people searching for balls
Ball placement is key
ball placement is key to course. very challenging. greens are fast. course is well kept. the staff was very friendly. will golf here again.
Great Course
Very challenging and for someone like myself who only gets to play once or twice a week, it's great! We'll be back on the course again next week.
Nice greens
Greens were awesome to putt, fairways were tree lined and tight plus lots of fairway bunkers. You must hit it straight or you've got chance.
Great HOT Deal Course
I got a hot deal here and played 18 holes, riding, for $13. It's normally $30-$50 to play a around here. It's an interesting layout. The greens had been aerated a couple of weeks ago so they weren't rolling as fast as usual. It was still cart path only, which tells you how wet the fairways were. This course was basically built in a swamp do it takes a long time to dry out after a winter like we've had.
Exceptional course
Very nice course all around. It was a bit mushy but that was from the rain during the week. Other than that it was fantastic.
