About
When Hell's Point Golf Club opened in 1982, Golf Digest called it one of the best new courses and it was ranked as one of the 100 best-designed courses in the country. Renowned architect Rees Jones designed the course. He incorporated the many natural features provided by the golf course's location in the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The fairways are edged with saltwater marshes and Jones included his signature sculpted bunkers along the greensides. Just a stone's throw from the ocean, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The second hole is one of southeastern Virginia's toughest golf holes with out-of-bounds to the left, trees to the right, and a sloped fairway that leads to a well guarded, double-tiered green. This par 4 is the no. 1 handicap hole at When Hell's Point Golf Club.

Nice course, fast greens, but they held.
Well worth playing if the price is right. Challenge to most golfers, some unique holes.
Very wet conditions due to very close to sea level
Greens were very good but the rest of the corse was wet and muddy.
NIce Golf Course ...
I got a great deal on Golf Now and that made this a very nice golf course. The green were in good shape and the ball rolled pretty true. Fairways were in good shape (the lil time I spent on them, lol). A challenging course but not over the top difficult. All and all a very nice golf course. The next time in the area I will play there again. If you catch a deal on Golf Now, don't hesitate nice course.
Fun course
Course is fun and challenging and in pretty good shape. We enjoyed it each time we played. I would recommend it.
Good value for price paid
Staff was very friendly. Good value for the discounted rate I paid.
Worth $30......maybe
This course is not worth the $60 listed, it may be worth the $30 I payed, but I still am upset I paid that much.
Greens gave true reads
Enjoyed the layout and the reads of the greens. Good bunker placements. Good risk/reward type of course.
Nice layout
Greens were in really nice shape. There was one green that had some burnt spots but over all greens were in good shape.

I would certainly return to this course. I think it was I great shape but very difficult at times. Although par 3s were pretty easy.

The day we played the course was very wet (carts on path only) but we still enjoyed it. Under better conditions I believe it would have been a much better experience.
This course needs a little more maintenance, especially the greens.
The course was very wet. It requires better drainage. Several of the greens are in poor shape. Overall the course is laid out fairly well but it would be much better if the greens were maintained and the drainage on the course was updated.
Course has gone way down hill. Would not even play there for free
Don't play this course to many good courses around that are in a lot better shape
tight holes, little room for error, area has been wet and the rough in some places was unplayable.
This is a nice course, but you have to hit it straight. There are many tight holes with little room for error. The rough was inconsistent, and in some places so thick and deep it was difficult to get out of. There were areas roped off because of wetness, I think, and those areas were extremely difficult to get out of. I asked if they were ground under repair, but the guy in the pro shop couldn't tell me. Pace of play was slow, probably due to degree of difficulty. Most of the greens were in good shape, but the course was spreading sand or fertilizer, so it was difficult to judge the overall quality. It's a nice natural setting, without houses lining the holes.
Nice course
Course has a nice design. It was a little soggy in the roughs, and the greens were in good shape. Only paid $20 on Golf Now so it was a bargain. All of the staff was cordial and helpful. The course is challenging and has great scenery and No houses built on it. Some of the holes feel repetitive, but still fun to play.

Course is fun to play but, can be a problem if you spray your teeshots. Pretty setting and course is well maintained.

Good Value, would play it again!
Course was in good shape considering all the rain that fell in the week before I played. Course was well marked and directional signs were easy to follow. The yardage book was a great help as I had never played the course.
Played the white tees and found the course very fair for a 12 handicap. Rough was a bit thick but that's how it should be. Greens were in pretty good shape except for a few ball marks, but what course doesn't have that problem.

This was my first time playing the course. Everyone indicated that the course was maintained much better in the past.
Deceptively challenging
Hells point is well worth the trip. Holes can come up and get you if you are not careful where you place your shot. Being close to the beach the humidity can be a little higher than inland.
