Hell's Point Golf Club
About
When Hell's Point Golf Club opened in 1982, Golf Digest called it one of the best new courses and it was ranked as one of the 100 best-designed courses in the country. Renowned architect Rees Jones designed the course. He incorporated the many natural features provided by the golf course's location in the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The fairways are edged with saltwater marshes and Jones included his signature sculpted bunkers along the greensides. Just a stone's throw from the ocean, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The second hole is one of southeastern Virginia's toughest golf holes with out-of-bounds to the left, trees to the right, and a sloped fairway that leads to a well guarded, double-tiered green. This par 4 is the no. 1 handicap hole at When Hell's Point Golf Club.

Downhill
It is located in a beautiful area, it’s one of those courses that is a great value for the money. I’m not sure what has happened in previous weeks but their new process is ridiculous.
I paid $19 to play a round of 18 ($10) promo code. Upon arrival 15 minutes prior to my tee time I was told it is a new rule to bring your clubs to the carts and you can no longer take a cart to your car to load up. ( I assume this is because of an ABC violation which is understandable) Beer is cheap, just go to the shop and it’s like $14 for 6
I had my girlfriend with me and I was told that she could not ride along with me (not playing golf) without paying the second cart fee. I have been to this course 3 times in the past 2 months and this has never been an issue. Ended up paying MORE for her to just ride in the cart ($20).
It is 5 minutes before my tee time and the gentleman refused to give me the cart key until my tee time. I had to sit in the cart for 5 minutes just to receive the key to drive it.
This is a course that you enjoy playing because it is cheap for the area and the conditions are decent.
This is NOT a country club, it is a place for everyone who wants to have a fun round of golf and not pay a ridiculous amount of money to do so. Very sad experience and I hope they relax on these new protocols.
In need of alot
I used to play here back in the late 80's when the course wasn't that old. It was considered to be one of the, if not THE premier course in Virginia Beach then. I started playing there again this year but unless there are some big improvements to the course, I may have played my last round there. It hadn't rained in days yet it was cart paths only. You had to find just the right spot to park your cart or you would step out into mud or a massive puddle. Walking to the middle of the fairway there was always a chance you would encounter an area of standing water or very soft earth. Even the cart paths are in terrible shape. For now, I'm playing elsewhere.
Good Layout, but not good condition
Course has seen better days. Challenging layout, but is overshadowed by conditions. Path horrible, greens average, traps had very little sand. Was wet the day we played and cart path only as it should have been. Pro shop and cart staff were friendly. Played on the VSGA book.
Staff Rules
After I paid they would not give me my key to the golf cart until I brought my clubs from the car. This was totally ridicules. Mt friend and I will never play there again.
New management is going to ruin the course
New GM is terrible. The negative energy in that place is heavy. All the employees look like they want to quit and the GM just walks around and talks down to people, both staff and customers. Course is dry yet still cart path only. Was my favorite course.
Mysterious Golf Cart Policy
Barring the course's mysterious golf cart policy, I could have had a much more pleasant experience.
The cart policy is that all customers must load their golf bag into their my golf carts in front of the golf cart staff.
Following the incomprehensible policy, I loaded my golf bag into my cart while the golf cart staff was casting apparently suspicious eyes on me and my golf bag.
When I asked him why, the cart staff (an old guy at least in his 70s) curtly said, "It is a new policy".
I just wonder how many of the course customers may appreciate the mysterious cart policy.
Poor management
No player is allowed to take cart to his car for clubs … no key was issued unless it was 15 mins to tee off… my last time … used to play here for years until this new rule change.. im 73 my bag is heavy … not able to carry bag t from my car.. I’m out
