Hell's Point Golf Club
About
When Hell's Point Golf Club opened in 1982, Golf Digest called it one of the best new courses and it was ranked as one of the 100 best-designed courses in the country. Renowned architect Rees Jones designed the course. He incorporated the many natural features provided by the golf course's location in the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The fairways are edged with saltwater marshes and Jones included his signature sculpted bunkers along the greensides. Just a stone's throw from the ocean, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The second hole is one of southeastern Virginia's toughest golf holes with out-of-bounds to the left, trees to the right, and a sloped fairway that leads to a well guarded, double-tiered green. This par 4 is the no. 1 handicap hole at When Hell's Point Golf Club.

The greens were in great shape. Photo submitted by wadedaffinee on 07/23/2014
Tees and greens were in poor condition. Fairways somewhat acceptable. Significant deterioration since the last time I played this course.
Best spot in 757?
Seems like the best course around. Looks like a cut above the rest.
Poor tee time management
Pace was sooo slow. There was a 4 some I. Front of me and a 8 some in front of them. I was a single, and they would not let me play through. I skipped a few holes to get in front of them, and I got stuck behind another 4 some that would not let me play through. I like the course for the price, but they need a course marshal and to better manage their tee times.
Those pesky tee boxes
Some tees are decent but others need regraded. On the bad Tees we simply found a decent area to tee from and letter rip.. loved the fairways and greens. Marshall was out twice checking pace.. saw cartgirl 4 or 5 times.
Tee boxes need repair
Overall course is in great condition. But tee boxes need repairs. No flat stance on most. Had to stand outside of box on most.
Dry and hard
This is my home course. I play quite often. Greens are in great shape. Bunkers could use a good raking or fresh sand. Fairways are hard as concrete. Tee boxes are in terrible shape.
Ground bees in the sand and hills
Almost every big mound near sand traps had swarming ground bees. Had 2 4 man groups in front of us that wouldn't let us play through. Finished 18 holes in over 5 hours.
Vacation
Course was challenging but fair. Greens were in great shape.
Nice greens!
The greens on this course have improved immensely. The layout has always been my favorite. Only thing I would ask is a little more attention to the sand pits. Some of them were hard as a rock with dirt in them.
Helluva Day at Hells Point
This is not one of my favorite courses in the Virginia Beach area. We've been returning to the area for three decades and have played Hells Point several times. Its big advantage is its proximity to Sandbridge, where we stay. Its disadvantages are its poorly maintained tee boxes and several greens. They cater to regular golfers over annual vacationers, which I can accept. But some flexibility and accommodation would go a long way in attracting repeat golfers. Green fees seemed a bit steep for the area and the course conditions, much better value elsewhere.
Ok course
Used to be my favorite course. It wasn't in very good shape. Tee boxes were in rough shape. Fairways and greens just okay. Just another average resort area course now.
Overall good
Overall I think it was a good course. Biggest thing they really need to work on are the tee boxes. Lumpy uneven and footing not great. Fairways and greens were good
Enjoyed playing this course.
Course was fun and staff were great. Will be playing again while on vacation.
