About
Nestled in the foothills of Yorba Linda, Black Gold Golf Club sits on the site of a former Shell Oil Field. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, thought the location, with its dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views overlooking Orange County and Palm Beach, was the perfect place for a round of golf. On a clear day, the views stretch as far as the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The challenging layout is filled with narrow, rolling fairways and fast greens accented by thick patches of punishing rough. Due to the hilly terrain, a flat lie is hard to come by. The front nine requires accuracy and the back nine offers some particularly interesting risk-reward opportunities. Water hazards come into play throughout Black Gold Golf Club, most notably on the 18th. This par-5 finishing hole incorporates a cascading waterfall.

Over Priced
Greens are in good shape overall; tee boxes were horrific. One would expect better fairways and roughs considering the money that they are charging. There are better options available. Even though I have played this course numerous times over the years, I doubt we will be back. It's over priced for what you get and most of the holes were cart path only for no particular reason.
Always challenging
A fine course to test your skills in the extreme. Great quality greens in particular. I love playing this course.

The people working here were great. The course is very challenging...not a beginner course. Greens are very hard and crazy fast.
Very fun to play if you have the game to do it. If you don't have the game...practice and then go play it. I really enjoyed the challenge and will be back soon.

What happened to black gold?
I’ve played this course around 5-6 times, it’s a challenging fun course but the condition of it is terrible now. When you’re hitting off crab grass in the fairway you know it’s bad. I think the course is way overpriced for the condition save your money and go to Coyote hills or strawberry farms.

awesome course, got it on a hot deal so i jumped on it. great course lay out, greens were a bit fast, but it was very challenging!
