Black Gold Golf Club
About
Nestled in the foothills of Yorba Linda, Black Gold Golf Club sits on the site of a former Shell Oil Field. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, thought the location, with its dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views overlooking Orange County and Palm Beach, was the perfect place for a round of golf. On a clear day, the views stretch as far as the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The challenging layout is filled with narrow, rolling fairways and fast greens accented by thick patches of punishing rough. Due to the hilly terrain, a flat lie is hard to come by. The front nine requires accuracy and the back nine offers some particularly interesting risk-reward opportunities. Water hazards come into play throughout Black Gold Golf Club, most notably on the 18th. This par-5 finishing hole incorporates a cascading waterfall.

Bring your A Game !
This is a fun and challenging course to play. Make sure you get a lay of the land before you swing away , if you have that big drive and can place it you will be very happy. Putting was also very tough because most of the green are rolling. The best part is the view and the staff. We will be back again (with an extra sleeve of balls) for what is one of the best top 10 course in OC! enjoy it with a friend it helps when you cry with someone....Gotta Try it> Blessings JF
Tourney Day = Slow Play
Make sure to check their tournament schedule when playing here. We were delayed for 50 minutes along with slow play from the tournament players in front of us. Hard course to play in and even harder when you are waiting 15 minutes for your next swing.
Kentucky Blue Crab
I'm not a botanist or a gardener and im certainly not a greenskeeper or a Golf course Superintendent BUT it aeems they must have laid down the original sod with grass that was different from the barbwired crab grass that grabs your ball to a dead stop when your pitching it up on the green or causes it to kick in directions that make it difficult to find a tee shot you thought would be waiting in the center or somewhere on the fairway but you'll start to get a little irritated when you dont find your well struck down the middle with a draw drives at all. The track is great, the staff is very friendly and helpful. I just dont think they are using the best possible grass. But if you love playing at San Clemente Municipal Golf Course and like the grass they have there too. Then you'll be right at home at Black Gold. I'll play here again, just so I can appreciate when I play Arroyo Trabuco even more. Black Gold will one day have a great cover, it deserves it and/but it wont be too soon.
And yes, I had a terrible score compared to the game level I played that day.
Black Gold
Pace of play was slow. Took 5 hours to pay on a Sunday. They should separate the tee times a little more.
The greens, the layout and staff were great!!
Difficult course due to hilly terrain.
Didn’t know the back greens were sanded - completely white with sand. Wish they had done only a few holes and not spoilt the outing
Good Track!
It was extremely hot for Orange County on the day we played. You should consider bringing your own water as there was none on the course. Marshal did bring by ice for the cooler during the round. Very fair course. Couple of holes with blind tee shots. Best to pair up with someone familiar with course. Several areas had "beware of rattlesnakes" signs in case you missed your landing areas. Greens a little slow. Good track. Would play again.
Nice Staff, Horrible everything else
Pace sucks, obnoxious other people playing the course, for $605 for a 3 some, course reminds me of an excavation site. Never coming back. All this course has is about 1/2 of the staff is super nice, other half wants to leave.
Green all over
This course is well maintain and must have access to some water source others don’t. You will be playing target golf, especially on the back nine. Just because your ball hits the fairway doesn’t mean it’ll stay in or that you’ll have a good lie. Greens rolled true, also very tough. If this is your first time golfing try another more flat course with less OB. If your confident you can hit 200+ yards tee shots straight and possibly in wind this is a great course to play. Way over priced unless you get a deal time. We played a Wed afternoon, Marshall was out and asked us to speed up (we finished in 4:15 hrs) so very speedy pace of play. Id play it again as course knowledge is key to success here. Many par 4s were walking only and every par 3 walking only. Carts very nice with GPS. Many blind shots.
Great Track!
Incredible layout...gorgeous views. One of the best layouts I've ever played. Great facility and staff too
Priced a little high, but overall great course
Course conditions- great
Cart girl was near us 4 times throughout play - perfect
Pace of play - perfect
The only issue I had was that the price. $149 for a round was a little to high. Bring it down by $25 and it would be totally worth the price.
