Black Gold Golf Club
About
Nestled in the foothills of Yorba Linda, Black Gold Golf Club sits on the site of a former Shell Oil Field. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, thought the location, with its dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views overlooking Orange County and Palm Beach, was the perfect place for a round of golf. On a clear day, the views stretch as far as the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The challenging layout is filled with narrow, rolling fairways and fast greens accented by thick patches of punishing rough. Due to the hilly terrain, a flat lie is hard to come by. The front nine requires accuracy and the back nine offers some particularly interesting risk-reward opportunities. Water hazards come into play throughout Black Gold Golf Club, most notably on the 18th. This par-5 finishing hole incorporates a cascading waterfall.

Great track
I'm a golf snob and I was impressed! 3.5 hours to play on a Friday. Vacationing from Cleveland and had to do the replay for $30. 1st round was $84 and well worth it.
Interresting Course
A lot of elevation changes. Not my favorite type of course, but was ok. Greens were punched, but I don't putt, so it was perfect. Overall condition was pretty good. Hard to keep a course with so many hills in perfect shape. However, I always rate the quality of a course by the bunkers and theirs are perfect. Sand and groomed each and every one of them. They put the time into the course. Staff was very nice to me. Clubhouse staff eventhough it was 4PM and I was paying a cut rate were very nice and professional. Even the cart guys were very nice when I brought the cart back at dusk.
Not my favorite type of course, but i'll be back.
Excellent
Excellent condition and very good view
Foothill/Desert Style Golf Course
I had a great time playing there, it was my second time. The course is in good shape and is very challenging with elevation changes and forced carries. Lots of scrub vegetation thru out the golf course making accuracy a premium.
The crew in the pro shop were great, the golf carts were amazing with plush seats, GPS and ice coolers full of ice. The whole facility is first rate and reminds me of a resort style course. The biggest bang for your buck that you could ever expect.
Great day of Golf.
First time at BG, won't be the last. Great track. Every hole is unique. Tee boxes in good shape, fairways and greens in excellent shape. The greens can get a little tricky, a little quick and with plenty of slope to keep you guessing, but they run true. It was a little warm, so the pace was pretty good, about 4H. Could have been a bit faster except for the group in front of us, (who didn't repair ball marks on green. Come on, guys.). It is challenging, but you can score well...I did today. However, even if I didn't, I would highly recommend this course. The staff and the course are great.
Black Gold
Played the Blues (6439/71.4/131) in slightly over 4H with GK Guru's Itslikeimsayin, Stickboy & Kevbig. Very fun group to play with! The weather started cool but was in in the low 80's by the time we were finishing. Muggy with little wind and clear.
My 2nd time here, I enjoyed the layout more this time through. Hilly, tight in spots. I don't go "wow" on any of the holes, but to me the truer test of a layout is after the round do I remember any really poorly designed holes... and overall, they have 18 good holes of golf here. The course conditions were a mixed bag, but good overall.
Many of the tees were undergoing maintenance. Front 9 tees had recently been aerated. Several back 9 tees were closed for resodding, so we played a couple of Black tees and a couple of Whites tees on the back. Most had decent coverage with only the par 3's needing divot attention.
The majority of the fairways were semi lush. Almost every fairways had a few small areas that were thin or bare, but they were good overall.
The Kikuyu wasn't overly long, but it's Kikuyu. The rough was lusher overall than the fairways.
The sand traps were the star of the course. I cannot remember playing out of better traps. Very well maintained, raked like a PGA Tournament was ongoing with nice white sand. Both the quality and quantity of the sand were excellent, I do not see how a daily fee courses traps could be maintained any better.
The greens were good, they putted better than they looked up close. There were a few thin to almost bare areas that I marked them down for, but they putted nice. Medium speed and smooth, consistent from green to green.
The customer service was excellent from the pro shop to the starter. Cart gal out making the rounds. Recommended = Yes.
Great Value, fun course
Played on a Friday, good pace. Joined two orhers who were familiar with the course, very friendly and helpful. Greens were VERY fast, always breaking towards Disneyland! Great views of Santa Ana and Anaheim.
Great course
Played on a Thursday afternoon, fairly wide open. The course itself is challenging but fun to play.
Good experience
Maybe I was excited after reading all the great reviews, but I was a little let down. The range was closed, it was a little hot and the mowers were on every stinkin hole. There are a ton of blind shots and distances are really tricky .. I would like to play again to see if I could score better .. I shot my handicap .. 7 but I felt like my approach shot distances were constantly off....the the greens do not hold well .. the course is pretty but I would rather play eagle glen..Tiny putting area and no warm up was not conducive to my experience either.
❤️ This course ⛳️
I am a 20 handicap and the course, tho not my first round is not all familiar to me! It was a challenge but within my capabilities and is much fun!!
Awesome day
BEAUTIFUL COURSE
3.5 hour round. ... rough greens. Open fairways
Well worth drive down from LA..
Very friendly staff. Great pace of play. Finished in 3 and a half hours on a Saturday. Not a fan of all the houses that line the course but they only come into play on a few holes on the back 9. Very pleasant day. Even though they had a wedding going on, the restaurant staff made an effort to seat us (outside) and were very attentive. Worth the price.
Great view
The course was in great condition nice greens and fairways just was a little slow pace 5 hours to play with a 928 tee time
Challenging scenic course.
Best course in the area for the money. Greens are in great shape and hold well. Lots of elevation and each hole presents a different set of challenges. If you're not a target golfer play the forward T's.
Great bang for buck for higher end golf course
Black Gold is a crapshoot. Sometimes it's loaded up with hacks during slow times but when they are in prime season with prime rates, conditions and pace is awesome
Great course, Great accommodations
This course was beautiful, greens were fast. The starter gave us friendly advice on green speed, elevation tips, which way the greens broke (not always downhill!!!). I would recommend this place to anyone looking for somewhere away from the freeways and busy local courses. Anyone who can play bogey golf or better will really enjoy this course.
Great!!!
A very fair challenge. Greens and fairways were fabulous! A beautiful layout!!
Perfect condition!
Perfect perfect and perfect condition
Black Gold
Great course. Not extremely long but does play difficult. A must to keep the ball in the fairway, even if it means using an iron off the tee.
Interesting layout with lots of up and down
Knowing the course had been punched the week before I still wanted to get on and give it a try. Windy, windy day to start off so finding the fairway was premium, without the course book would have been even tougher, cart gps could give so much more info about which side to favor or what might be in front, only a few blurbs on a few holes. Pace of play was good for the most part after we got around a group that had to be out of position, never saw a course attendant to even ask, at least the beverage cart was on the course. Player's Club is probably the way to go to get the best value.
