challenging
tough greens, lots of break and hard to read, rolls
very fast
Navigate through bunkers to play well there
It is a difficult course to score well and if it gets windy, even more so. With so many bunkers and some difficult and fast greens, saving par or even bogey can be a good score on some holes. Some greens are very large and may require up to two more clubs to get it close. With tucked pin location on some holes, playing safe to the middle rather than go for the pin which can be a disaster if missed on the wrong side and difficult to recover. Hole #9 is often difficult par 4 due to the length and then forced carry of 180-200 yards or more. Expect delay on #8 & 9 as it is difficult holes to score. Some blind tee shot and some with wide open offers a mix of good challenges for all golfers. Blue and black tees are usually grouped together during weekends offering 6700 yards to speed up play but from the tip can be played as it is not closed. Bunkers are filled with soil & dirt rather sand which makes it easier as they are compressed and recent renovation has most bunkers with enough dirt in.
What a coirse
This course was in great shape. Greens were soft and fast.
Greens are protected by numerous bunkers and are virtually all multi tiered. If you don't hit monster drives there will be holes where you better lay up or you will be in deep rough.
I'll be back to play again!
Great course, but SLOW
We played as a twosome, and by the 5th hole we were waiting on every tee box. The group's behind us got annoyed, and we were starting to feel rushed even though we had to wait at least 5 minutes on every tee. It got to the point where we decided to stop after the 13th hole.
One of the two Class acts in the South Bay
Solid Experience as always. The greens had just been sanded two days before and we knew that. Difference here is they take their time to do it right. They make sure the greens are all evenly sanded so you can actually have a puting experience that is the same green to green and although altered, the greens break more or less as they should taking into account that they are sanded. Eagle Ridge also does something special - they comp'ed us another round if played within the next seven days... As I said, Class Act all around. If you haven't played here you are missing a great experience with a challenging layout in a condition that is going to be a very fair test of golf.
Thinking man's course..
Johnny Miller design is not a "grip it and rip it" type of course. There are unseen hazards where previous course knowledge, gps, or course yardage book is important. Not every hole a driver hole...decisions must be made to risk/reward on many holes. I played here when course first opened it seemed, like many JM courses, a bit unfair. I was pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed the course much more this time and could appreciate some of the design strategy JM incorporated into his creation. Conditioning is very nice..and thru golfnow I was able to get to play at a great discount rate...
Great course
Love this course. A bit slow but overall great place to play!
Excellent course with some real challengies
Got a hot deal while many considered it was raining. But ended up the weather was really good. So, I enjoyed the golf with the whole course opened to me. The fairways and greens are so nice which made me feel guilty if I forgot to repair the ball marks or divots.
Definitely, will like to come again, but I bet I won't be that lucky again!
Beat up eagle
I played here ten years ago and it was the premier place to get on with excellent everything from greens to fairways. Some of the fairway beat down was from the weather but the greens were in bumpy shape and needed more attention. Many of the fairway side bunkers have been taken away and are ugly mound of dirt making a nice hole look trashy. All in all if you can get on for less than $30 its worth it otherwise go elsewhere...
The course is saturated
Nice day considering all the rain we've had. The course was saturated. No roll on any shots, only carry. One negative is the carts are set to a very slow speed which is pretty annoying.
Not worth the money
$80 with a cart. No sand in the bunkers. I know golf is struggling a bit these days but Eagle Ridge has always been one of my favorites. The condition has been getting worse and worse. It's sad.
This eagle ridge is best layout all course.
That eagle ridge are more challenge during play course lots of slope and tough and narrow
Dont do evening golf- Lots of hills
I had a tee time at 3:30 do not get a tee time past 3:30, if you do they will not let you finish the course. You will have to come in before. If you don't they send someone out to retrieve you. The course is fairly challenging with hills every where. All in all the course conditions were very nice and the wind stayed away also. I would recommend trying this course out if you are ever in gilroy
Great Course
I always enjoy playing this course. While it is not extremely difficult, you do have to use good course management. There are several places where you can get into trouble. The course is well maintained and the pace was play was great due to limited people playing golf today. Typical round of golf on the weekend is 4.5 hours. We saw a group of about 20 wild turkeys on one of the holes.
too long rounding
My tee off was 2:00 and 6:30 out at #15 by sunset. It was some kind of crary roung on monday afternoon.I think they need someone who makesgame fast. It was totally worst. Do not recommand anyone.
A true test of your game
Eagle Ridge is one difficult hole after another. It is beautiful, quiet and well maintained but make no mistake , this is a monster track. Play the approptiate tee to have an enjoyable day.
Bang for the Buck
Monterey may be cooler but this course is every bit as good as some - if not better! Great course, good rates and service - what's not to like.
So bad service to customer
1. Typical of the unkindly and unfriendly
2. Intentional treated badly.
3. Intentional tee time delay.
Eagle Ridge Twilight
I found a great deal on Golf Now for a $25 with cart for a 2:50pm start. They let the two of us out at 2:20pm and we did not hit another twosome until hole 13. We finished the round in 3 hours and 15 minutes. The course was in great shape especially considering these drought times we are in. The grass in the fairways and greens were in good shape. The bunkers were just fair, I've played a lot worse. The great thing about Eagle Ridge is each hole is so unique, memorable for some and forgettable on the double bogeys.
got a great mid-week deal and was impressed by the condition of the course. Greens were awesome. Layout is challenging, especially the 18th hole where you must carry over-around-under a row of trees that hide the green. I've never seen a hole like it in my 30+ years of playing. For that matter, most of the greens are so well bunkered that bump and runs can't be done.
We aren't good golfers but still loved the challenge and managed not to lose but a few balls. Do not try to walk this course unless you do marathons. It is spread way out through a beautiful development and many of the holes are isolated in pretty valleys with no homes around. One of our top tracks in CA so far.
