Great Day
A beautiful course in the spring when the hills are all green . The vistas are fantastic -could see the Delta and the Sierras in the distance . Of course Mt. Diablo to the west. In my opinion is one of the top courses that I have played in Northern California, both for scenery and the course itself. . Will help to play more than once as there are quite a few blind tee shots over ridges and hills. Definitely a challenging course in great shape. Will be returning to play again even tho a 2+ hour drive to get there for me . Was a fantastic day with a slight breeze .Couldn't have been much better. A wonderful golfing experience.
natural setting and quiet
just a mile out of suburbia but in a natural surrounding. quiet and beautiful. the course is long and challenging but in great condition. greens are three putt greens if not careful but roll true and fast. a great value especially if you check out golfnow for discounts. friendly and accommodating staff and they go out of their way to get you on even as a single.
Fun and Hilly
Great golf course in good condition due to the recent (and much needed) rain. Nice and Green. I got lucky and was joined up with some nice older people. If you have gps or a laser, bring it, as the majority of your approach shots will be uphill and deceiving, distance wise. Watch out for the false fronts and fast greens. Neat course. FYI, once you go out, you stay out till 18.
Links style with high wind and rain.
This course is tuck away in the rolling hill side of Antioch and Brentwood that most wouldn't think of putting a golf course but they did and it a beautiful course.
The Facility:
This is a rolling 18 holes, meaning you're NOT going to see the clubhouse at the turn. So bring plenty of snacks and waters. The clubhouse is a triple wide trailer with supposedly a restaurant but it closed. I don't know if it closed for long-term or just yesterday since the weather is pretty rough.
There's a 3 tiers golf range and chipping green (putting green is right next to the clubhouse) that is situated on the opposite from the club house, if you planning to warm-up make sure you buy your bucket from the Proshop before going there, because the ball machine ONLY take PIN code to dispense balls.
The Staffs:
it take a little to warmth up but they are nice, friendly and helpful.
The Course:
I heard so much about the pace of plays so I didn't expect much and was prepare to a snail pace of plays. Since it was rainy and windy yesterday and there's only a couple of groups that braves the weather I think pace of plays wasn't a issue.
As a mentioned this a links style course so the fairways are wide and rough are decent but playable if you landed in there. Since it located on a rolling hill side so you get a lot of elevation changes so i guess choose you club carefully.
There's a couple of dogleg holes that I would suggest playing it safe. I'm surprised that there's so many sand trap (in better shape than most high end golf course)
There's no working plumbing toilets on course, but they do have "outhouse" and I know it will stink in the summer. so there is that to look forward to.
The GREENS:
The speed are the most inconsistent green I've ever played, otherwise, they are in good shape. If you think there's a lot of break, it really not. the day we plays was pretty rainy but the green feel like a hard-pan I can only imagine how crazy of a roll it will be when it dry.
Well manicured course and challenging greens.
This place is outstanding if you like to challenge your swing ability. If you over swing it, you could lose it. Had a great time on my first day here, great staff and good playing partners.
NOT for beginners
Roddy Ranch is a fine golf course and I have played there many times. However, this is a VERY challenging course and should only be played by HIGHLY-SKILLED, EXPERIENCED golfers. This is not a course for beginners for people who don't play very well or who only play once or twice a year. The pace of play on the weekends is horrible as people who don't play very often spend huge amounts of time trying to figure out where they are going and then looking for lost balls.
The course needs to be played a few times as there are several blind shots and deceiving views that can trick you into hitting it on a line that is no good.
The greens are fast and have subtle breaks that you can't see with the naked eye. The driving range is grass, but is mostly dirt now because of the lack of rainfall.
A fine course for an experienced golfer. But if you are a beginner, go someplace else. You will not enjoy this course if you are a beginner.
A Good Day to Play
The pro shop and on course assistant were very professional which made the experience pleasurable. The course was in excellent condition and the weather was quite nice. The players I was paired up with were friendly and the pace of play was good.
Pack a lunch
5 1/2 hours on a Thursday afternoon. They let too many people out.3 foursome on most holes
Challenging
Tough course but fun to play. Favorite course I my area that has a TON of courses
Marshall's
The pace of play was extremely slow. People walking slow, too many 4person groups, not spread out enough and Marshall's not speeding things up but rather just driving around.
I would like to try out a twighlight round because 1030 on a rainy afternoon didn't seem too quick. Not that hard to speed things up or spread groups out better.
Golf cart lady done early also was a bummer.
We ended up skipping ahead to another hole but found the same backup. We didn't complete our round and found ourselves bummed because of this.
Signed, upset customer
Not its best day but an absolute steal!
The greens weren't as smooth or fast as they normally are but the course was in overall decent condition. It's a difficult course with lots of forced carries and deep bunkers but scenic and fun. I only paid $25 though, so that's an automatic win.
Challenging course
Beautiful course. Very challenging, especially as a first timer. Lots of up and down hills keeps things interesting. Check out my "Tips" to try to stay out of the trouble that I found myself in.
TIPS: You really need to know where to put your shots, and where not to on this course. Lots of side hill landing areas, which if you aren't in the right position can lead to problems. The greens are very fast, but mostly fair. Bunkers don't have any sand in them. Just a sprinkling of loose dirt and little bits of very small gravel, all on top of some very heavy firm clay/dirt. Stay out of the bunkers!
Cool and windy
Have played here quite a few times and I enjoy it.
Fantastic Course
The course is fantastic, well maintain fair way and green. Bunker need more sand.
Holes have character, fairways and greens are superior for a public
Management has an above average interest in seeing to it that you have a good golf outing.
Only complaint: Hardly any sand in any of the bunkers.
Need to speed things up
Last two times I've teed off at noon I either finished in the dark, 5:15pm, or didn't finish at all. Pace of play is bad. Wait on every tee-group behind gets impatient and hit into us twice as we left the green. Marshall needs to improve pace of play or I will find another course.
Roddy Ranch Golf Club in Antioch
Roddy Ranch is a fun course to play. It has the right mix of difficult holes & somewhat easy holes, with lots of elevation change. The par 3's are the most challenging ranging from 180-200 yds. uphill. Course is in very good shape for December.
The Perfect Day!!
Anyone who has ever played Roddy, knows the wind can be a major factor between breaking 80 or 90 or 100 depending on if you are hooking the ball all day. How about 5 mph wind, greens rolling true, but still lightening fast, depending on the pin position, and absolutely 20 yds of roll in the fairway. Did I mention this was in December? Too good to be true? Then toss in a 2 for 1 special from Golfnow $17.00 PP including cart to play a 4 star course. Yep, my Sun was Shining!! Came close to breaking 80, shot 83, my best round ever on that course.
The layout of the course is exceptional and worth continuation of revisiting.
