They implement dress code very good
Staff are friendly I called a day before my tee time nice and respectful they answer all my question even on busy they over the phone .Also every player I saw was wearing proper dress code unlike Diablo Creek I played a day before 3 different group can wear jeans
Two things set this course back, there's always a breeze and very dry heat with minimal shade in high tempatures.
Challenging course with many dog legs and some blind shots. Large greens with a ton of slopes.
Great course
This is by faw my favorite golf course in the bay area.
See below
Course is interesting, challenging, well maintained. Staff is professional and ready to please. Love Roddy.
challenging with beautiful scenery without the sounds of cars
enjoyable course with pleasing views of beautiful California hills and vegetation and the Delta, all the way to the Sierras on a clear day. rare to play and not have to deal with houses or cars. only the sounds and sights of Nature, including the circling of a turkey vulture if your game is stinking it up! Go Play!
I have always liked this course
On this day the pace of play was very slow and that makes it a long day no one likes to wait on every tee box.
Great day at Roddy Ranch
Roddy Ranch is one of my favorite courses in the bay area. It is a challenging but fair layout. If you play from the correct tees, it can be enjoyable for players of all abilities. The course was is good shape for summer (wind and heat). It is one of the best values you can find. I will be back soon.
Father's Day
Since this was Father's Day It figured to be slow, especially in the afternoon (11:50 tee time). Course was in great shape but it was a 2 to 3 club wind which made it very challenging. Did I say it was Father's Day... Fun overall.
Good value for the money
Good golf course for the money. It is kinda far from where we usually play but good change of pace for us.
Fun course to play on, fast greens
Roddy Ranch is one of the few courses that I am willing to play on more than once a year. The course conditions usually are very good and the layout is fun for the most part. Still no real clubhouse to speak of ...
Real west ranch taste
Challegible layout with many bunkers. Greens are fast enough.
Even though the club house is not fancy, the course is luxurious level.
Both Lake Shadow and Roddy Ranch are my favorite course in Brentwood.
Challenging course!
Love playing this course. Challenging holes and very fast greens. If you play this course often, it will definitely make a lot of other places seem less challenging.
rock solid golf
if you're just off the fairways it can get real rough.
greens getting as difficult as they were when first opened.
Nice course, but in bad shape
I have played this course a couple of times before and it seemed to have been in better shape. When I played this last time there was a lot of areas under repair in the fairways and the greens were not in very good shape. The greens were very bumpy and had a lot of divots and dead spots around the hole. Some are due to people with no consideration not properly fixing ball marks and others were just bad spots on the greens. The pace of play seems to always be terrible here. After the first two holes we waited upwards of 5 minutes on every single shot. This really takes the fun out of the game for me. I like this course a lot but right now its not in the best shape and I havent found a good time to play as every time I play it takes over 5 hours for a round.
course knowledge essential
course was well maintained, high winds made it more challenging, Being the first time playing this course when we asked if the winds die down or pick up throughout the day we were informed "we just play golf here" course knowledge essential on a few of the holes. traps were in great shape.
This course is visually appealing, challenging, but fun to play.
I have played Roddy Ranch about a half dozen times. I have always enjoyed the challenging holes. Although I am a 22 handicapper, I consistently shoot in the mid-40's on the front or back nine of challenging courses. I am 65 years young and I relish trying to improve my score on the tougher holes at Roddy. Enjoy!
Good, not quite great
On the surface RR is a great course -- design, layout, setting, etc. And for the price, I'd recommend people go despite the howling wind that plays a huge part there. There were, however, 2 things holding it back from being a five star rating. (1) As a single, I had a tee time, showed up early and was paired with 3 others. The other 3 had a random 4th want to join them so the course wanted me to move my tee time back an hour and a half, which is a joke. They instead let me off as a single squeezed between a couple 4'somes. (2) The pin placements were too tricked up -- front edge of quick, false fronts (any respectable wedge rolled back off the edge), middle of slope on tiered greens, front edge of a long iron, downwind par 3 (you would never hold a shot there), etc.
I like the course, but go out expecting to have fun, enjoy the course and local cows, not necessarily shoot low scores.
Fast, firm greens.
I would play this course often if it wasn't 1.4 hrs away. It's a great value for the money when you take advantage of their special lunch/play rates or Golfnow specials. It can be challenging from the tips or black/combo tees. Reminds me of Cinnabar Hills without that awful Canyon 7th. The greens are fast and true and the fairways maintained. Played it for my first time and look forward to returning soon.
Course very good, but staff iniside nice but should of said nothing
The course is in vvery good shape Greens very fast. Fairways very very good. Overall course in very good shape. Want to see how well you play then play here it will test you. Only problem I had was I wanted to buy a taylormade cart bag when employee inside said don't buy now we will have it on sale for 75 bucks 2morrow. I said will I live over a hour away don't think ill be back 2morrow can I still get the sale price and he said no. Well they lost a sale and I think that wasn't right. He should of just kept his mouth shut and not said nothing. So will I be back soon? No wanted a new bag and shows if they don't want my business I take it else where.
High, Dry and Windy
Roddy Ranch is all of the above: high above the Antioch delta, dry as a bone and very, very windy. It had just turned warm when I played and one of the greenskeepers warned our party of snakes -- rattlesnakes! -- in several fairways and sometimes in bunkers that had just turned warm. We did see three, keeping away and playing to some mutually-agreed 'local rules'.
Fairways were in great shape; greens were very sandy, as aeration had taken place just the week before -- with no warning on the Golf Now posting. Putts were fairly true, but the varying sand densities made lines untrue.
Facilities are ranch-like, with all buildings temporary -- from stories I've heard, it's because the city of Antioch zoning board wouldn't allow permanent structures -- but serviceable and comfortable. Grill is mostly sandwiches, burgers and beers.
