Great Course In A Country Setting
This course is fantastic! This course is by far my favorite in Contra Costa County, and one of my favorites in the Bay Area. First off you have very interesting hole designs that are both challenging and fair. There are some courses out there that want to take challenging to the extreme, giving you impossibly narrow, long or sloped fairways that would make even the pros cringe. But Roddy Ranch gives you nice fairways with bunkering and in some cases surrounding water, that gives you enough room so that it's not a given, but something you should be able to hit. If you miss, you'll probably pay a big price. From there the greens are hard and fast, but very well maintained. In fact, the greens are usually outstanding here. Everything else in my opinion from the fairways, tee boxes, driving range and course layout run a close second. In addition to all that, I really enjoy the remote feeling while playing this course. No highway noise or other distractions, just a peaceful course set in the countryside. Great value for the money, and a course I never get tired of playing.
Great course.
I really like this course, it's my favorite type of design. Scenic, with rolling hills and lots of elevation changes. Plus no houses to look at. Well maintained, and lots of large, strategically placed bunkers challenge you to think your way around. Holes are interesting and varied. We got on for $19 which was a great deal. I walked it and it's not too difficult if you're a regular, hardy walker. The greens are challenging and deceptive. Everything slopes away from the hills, which makes sense but your eyes are often telling you otherwise. The grass on the greens seemed to have some sort of disease, which doesn't sound good, but they still rolled flat and true. They looked a bit funny but it didn't affect play at all. The par threes are long, which is nice. I'll definitely come back.
Always a challeging round of golf.
Well maintained golf course. There are some risk/reward holes with usually speedy greens.
Great golf experience, especially in rainy weather – super drainage
Always such a pleasure playing on bent grass – fairways and greens (super fast). Most all our other courses are poa anna. Thanks Golf Now for the great rate!
Good layout, bunkers need some attention, marshal could speed up play by encouraging so-called"members" to play faster
Good layout, marshals need to speed up so-called members, or encourage them to play from the right tee boxes
For $17, Thumbs Up
My brother and I headed out to RR after scoring a $17 hot deal for a nice Thursday afternoon round in November. We were reminded that we really like to course design given the thinking and strategy needed on each hole. That said, most everything is right in front of you, with a few exceptions.
I guess it helps that I have played well at RR each of 3 times I`ve played there.
Go on out...You'll enjoy.
Excellent course; painfully slow.
The biggest disappointment was the 5+ hour round.
The course was in good shape, the greens were great, I enjoy the layout.
But boy howdy was it ever slow.
Great deal for your dollar
Unique layout and challenging holes make this a fun course to play. Also has some cool elevation changes. Great deals on weekend tee-times through Golf Now help make this a great way to spend a Sunday. There is no "Turn" so make sure you bring some cash on the course w/you for the refreshment cart.
great course
Roddy has been a favorite of mine for sometime. I visit this course a few times every year.
Staff always friendly.
I enjoy the course, very challenging. Nice to see sand in the bunkers.
This course is very challenging and a great test
I love this course because it makes you play many different shots. I love the fast but fair greens.
The course is a good challenge for the money you spend
Roddy Ranch is a very challenging course with good panoramic views. The cart girls are always making their rounds. Course is always in good condition. If you play you have to be ready for a 4 1/2 to 5 hour round. The staff is friendly. The practice areas are good.
challenging especially when it's windy!
great course to play if you're a mid-handicapper. we play this course at least once a month.
Long course and well-maintanied
Roddy was in great shape. The greens are always firm here but maybe last week's rain made them a little softer because the ball bit...a bit more. The course plays long and there are a couple of par-4s where 5 feels like par. It's always fun to play this course and even though it's a hike it's definitely worthwhile. One negative this time was that the play was very slow and we were backed up on a number of holes. Maybe this was unusual but our round was much too long at @ 5 hours.
This course was challenging
This course was a challenge. Especially the greens. A quiet and clean place. I will be back.
This course is challenging
Pace is slow. Needs more marshaling on slow players. Some players play more than one ball. ProShop closed too early for players finish late and no restroom is available.
Best Course in Antioch
Roddy Ranch is a challenging but fair course. The greens are always in great condition and are very fast. The course conditions take a beating in the summer but usually come back to normal when rain returns. It's can get quite windy in winter months so be sure to carry appropriate gear. The carts do not have wind protector.
Great cource for the value
Roddy Ranch is one of five courses within 15 min of my house. They offer a challenging course for the best value during the week. Not sure of the pace of play on weekends, but mid week play is smooth.
Great challenging course
The course is a challenging, but fair test. 2 complaints. The pace of play is horrendous. Need a marshall to improve slow play. 2nd, because I liike to play in the afternoon, they always close the clubhoiuse before I finish. Need access to a bathroom after the round. Both issues can be easily addressed.
Great course, for the value. Definately a players course!
I love this course, it is always in great shape. The course is tough, but fair. My only complaint is that the clubhouse is not accesable by the ninth hole. (NO FOOD AT TURN)
