A REAL COWBOY EXPERIENCE
This course is on a real ranch. Is in the middle of pasture land. With rolling hills and valleys makes for an interesting golf experience. If you go there to play golf expect several very long holes
nice
Like It Nice course Will Play There again Great Price
Thank you for the review, we hope to see you at Roddy Ranch, very soon.
best course in east county
Roddy ranch is my favorite go to course. With exception of one or two holes, it has a different personality each time and you have to play it twice
Or three times to appreciate the layout
Another slow play slog
4.5 hours after 12 holes...unacceptable.
Course is rough and in poor condition in some spots....understandable due to drought.
Difficult with fast sloping greens....challenging and good
Price low, but with condition and speed of play issues....reasonable
Too crowded and....
If a course is going to punch the fairways and do work on their course. We should be made aware. The course was so bad it should have been closed
Great course for the money.
I booked this tee time on golfnow as a hot deal. The greens are in great shape even if the course may be struggling some because of the drought. The lay out of the course is challenging but good tee shots are rewarded. I would recommend this course even if the fairways are a little beaten up.
Drought impact
The severe drought has definitely impacted the course. Never seen playing conditions so bad at Roddy. What fairways? Practically the whole course was ground under repair. Greens bumpy and inconsistent. Hopefully we have a wet winter so they can get the course to nicer conditions that I'm used to. 5.5 hour round on a hot windless day. Brutal.
Great Design Course, Need more lots of maintenance.
I have played many courses. Roddy Ranch Golf course is a great design course. Fun to play. Played yesterday. I have been playing there for many years. The condition is getting worse and worse. There are so many dry spots that did not get water. There are many parts of the courses that are so wet due to over water. Workers need to play more attention of where to water the course. It will be a real nice course if they keep it up.
PS. Tim who works at the shop is really nice guy. Very helpful.
Great course but.......
Its a very unique and difficult course. Unfortunately due to our water shortage situation, its very difficult to keep it well maintained. Lots of dirt patches throughout the course.
Great day of golf
Had a great time at Roddy Ranch. The course is a bit beaten up by what looks like to be pigs tearing up the fairways. A good challenging course with lots of tough shots. Because of the current drought, the course is a little brown but very acceptable. The greens are great and very fast. I would play here again.
East Bay Gem
Roddy Ranch is a great course that offers a very scenic and reasonably challenging experience. Be honest with your skills when you play...the tips are not for the weekend warrior. Beginners to intermediate players should really consider the White tees or you're in for a long day. The greens are awesome...so fix your ball marks to keep them that way. If you're playing with an experienced Roddy player...listen to them, especially on the greens...it'll save you at least 4 strokes if not more.
Have a great time...do not stray off the fairways to look for errant shots...save that space for the Rattlesnakes.
Great East Bay Gem...so tee em high and let em fly.
Excellent greens, even with the drought.
This is one of the best value courses in the Bay Area, based on the quality of the course routing, quality of the greens, and the challenge it provides.
The greens were in very good shape and only a few spots didn't roll true. Unfortunately while they are keeping the most important part in good shape, the fairways have suffered tremendously.
There is a lot of GUR circles around and in fairness sometimes it's difficult to see why they circled some spots when other spots on the same fairway were in worse shape. Fortunatly I am used to and happy to play it down so I didn't mind. Just be forwarned they are beat up.
That said. the conditions cannot take away from what is a fun course and I still recommend it to golfers who genuinely appreciate playing the game.
Roddy Ranch first time
This course is definitely tough. You have to be on your A game especially on the greens. I played with my buddy and they paired us up with a low handicap twosome. Needless to say it was not too difficult for them. But we all had a blast. I'm a 18 handicap and shot a 101. The slope rating was 140 so I wasn't expecting much less. I will play it again now that I know it a little better.
Great Price and a great course!!!
Great day for playing at Roddy Ranch. The price was $15 cheaper than their current rate. The course is in great shape and "brown is the new green" due to drought conditions. Fairways were fine and the greens rolled very true and fast!
Great time
Very interesting course
Each hole opens up to a different type of play. A lot of different tea boxes for all different skills of Golf .
Mid-week bargain
Prices for mid-week rounds are often lower than anywhere else in the area. The course is very scenic and for the most part well kept. Greens are top class: fast but true. Some bad patches in the fairways and on the fringe of some bunkers. Bunkers themselves are short of sand. But the drought is hurting conditions everywhere so I'm mentioning the downsides, not complaining. Playing at one of the better public courses in the bay area for under 30 bucks including a cart? Can't beat that.
Drought conditions but still in good shape
The course is dealing with a drought, so they're limiting the water use. Lots of brown where there's usually green, but not where it counts. They've also cut down the areas off the fairways, so balls that would have been lost in high grass and weeds are still playable. Fast and firm, but still in good condition under the circumstances. I'd play it again.
Slow players
There were many slow players yesterday. This course is not an easy course. Beginner golfers should not play there. Some golfers yerterday - hit 7 or more times before their balls reached the green.
Roddy
The course has always provided a challenge for many- me included. There are many bunkers protecting the greens. The slope and speed, once on the greens, is another issue to content with. Still to this day I am puzzled by the terms most golfers familiar with the course calls "hospital curb".
Regardless of the many challenge this course offers, it does have it's appeal along with the very reasonable price any golfer would find hard to turn away from.
We hope you enjoyed the scenery around our course! We hope to see you back soon.
