Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

Golfer Reviews
Picturesque
Course was busy but not overcrowded, pace of play very slow. Took over 5 hrs to play. Course in excellent condition. Many challenging tiered greens, couple of cup placements on a slop. Had always wanted to play this course, do not intend to rush back, may play once again this season. Too slow a pace. Staff extremely friendly and helpful.
Course with Character
Each hole is different as it snakes its way around a a housing community. Course was in great condition and the green were very soft.
Great Course
Old Hickory has a great layout with a variety of holes. Course was in very good condition. Greens were in great shape and rolled true.
Good value mid-week
Old Hickory is a very fun/challenging layout. Like so many local courses, there is much area to maintain; as a result there are maintenance issues throughout. Still, they do an excellent job with their budget. In particular, the greens are good/excellent. Really, what more can you ask for. Overall, you will find many fair birdie opportunities, and be challenged by par throughout. Par on 18 is an excellent finish!
Practice Facilities
Overall, I really like this course. The one complaint that I have about this course is the practice facilities. They are in poor condition. I am one who likes to get warmed up before a round so I like to get there 30-60 mins early and hit balls and putt. The range area is not in good condition. The mats are in terrible condition so hitting off of them is not so good. But it's hard to get the feel of your swing when you're hitting off of a mat that's in that bad a condition. The putting surface is good though.
This course is beautiful
I really like this course. it is beautiful and challenging to play. The only two things that bothered be today. 1) starter put TWO twosomes on behind the 4 foursomes in front! Arrrgh!
2) cart "person" only had one hotdog. I enjoy a good hotdog half way through my round, but lately, all I hear is "sorry I don't have any" :(
other than those two minor inconveniences in my opinion I LOVE THIS COURSE!
Challenging from tips
We played mid-afternoon on a Saturday and finished in near darkness because of the pace of play. The course is built through a housing development. The holes are generally tight as a result and some of them would challenge PGA players from the tips -- i.e. 465 yard par 4 with a tight landing area with OB on the left and a hazard on the right and a well-guarded green and a 630 yard finishing hole. I love a challenge but it wasn't that much fun to play. There were some fairways that sloped into drainage areas that were pockmarked with divots because virtually every ball ends up there. Being in a development, it wasn't scenic. So all in all, this is a one and done for me.
Great Saturday on the Course
I drove over an hour to play this course and would do it again. Great atmosphere for those looking for challenging golf, great greens, and great customer service.
Obnoxious Kids on # 7
Though it was recently aerated, the green was pretty fast. We were happy with overall condition of the course but ran into obnoxious neighborhood kids on # 7 tee box. They were literally on the black tee box and being loud & rude. Even got louder when we asked them to quiet down. As paying customer, no one should face that kind of experience playing golf. Anyways, the marshal finally came out and asked them off the course.
Lots of interesting holes
This is a great course. The greens were in very good condition. My one complaint is that the fairways had a lot of chunks taken out of them in a few spots. It looked like a lot of wear for early in the season. But, as I said, greens didn't seem to struggle at all.
Certain a favorite if I feel like making the drive to Woodbrige.
Beautiful course
Beautiful course but not that easy to play!
Always a challenge when we play there.
Very good
Good condition.
staffs are very friendly.
food is good.
Great day weather wise finally
Course in good shape after winter weather, even greens since recently aerated. One of the best courses in the area.
One of the better courses in Northern VA
Tough, challenging course. It is definitely one of the better Raspberry Trail courses, and one of the best public courses in Northern VA. The one criticism of the course would be the number of homes on the course and how visible the homes are throughout your round. Apart from that, there is an excellent mix of holes and the various tee boxes really do make a difference in the level of difficulty.
Visually a nice course
Enjoyable experience, and makes it a go to course.
Decent track but pace of play ruined my experience
Course was in decent shape considering we are in mid November but aside from that, the 5 hours and 20 mins to finish 16 holes was ridiculous. I understand a weekend tee time may take awhile to finish but to have a tee time at 12:00 and not be able to finish 18 was a bit much for me. I saw no marshal at all dictating the pace of play, we waited on every hole for at least 5 min.
I will not be returning to this course anytime soon.
Great layout. Great conditions.
You'll use every club many times. Love the elevations. Some traps/bunkers need work. Need more ball washers. Great course for ALL levels.
Nice variety of hole, great finishing holes on 9 & 18
Decent layout with nice greens.
Some holes are far apart and very hilly - a tough walk.
Driving range is limited but adequate.
This course was awesome
I was skeptical at first, about how great I have heard this course was, but I have to say it was one of the best courses that I have played in Virginia!
