Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

nice course
Decent value. A well maintained course with cordial customer service - most of the staff except for the starter seemed like they would rather be somewhere else actually. Pace of play was close to 5hrs on a Tuesday morning so that was rough. Priced a bit high at $60...but not terrible. Would recommend this course to friends.
Great Course, but challenging from the back tees
Course was in pristine conditions - Hole placement was a challenge on some greens, but still had a great time. Pace of play was better than average.
well kept, but ultimately disappointing
I believe I've given this course a fair shake -- playing half a dozen times in the past two years -- but it's over; I'm officially done with it. It's well maintained, and the short game practice area places one in a great frame of mind to start the day, but the house-lined fairways, relatively narrow landing areas (at least if you value a somewhat flat lie) and, in particular, the multi-tiered green complexes conspire to drain one's enthusiasm by the 6th hole or so. Save your money and go play elsewhere; it's certainly not worth the drive down from the DC area.
Very challenging putting surfaces
Overall a very good course for the Golf Now price (I would not pay the normal rate to play there).
Well maintained, great greens, solid layout. Will be back.
First time I played this course and it is one of the best I have played in the past year. Well maintained, greens were running fast and true. Nice practice facility as well.
Rounding in to shape
The course is still recovering from aeration, but the greens are mostly rolling true, and the other areas are being prepped for the main season.
Awesome course, pick the correct tees for an honest test of your game.
Conditions getting better by the day!
Always a favorite. Staff is fantastic and the course is beginning to shape up after the winter. They have cut down many "extreme rough" conditions and opened up playability. Will play there again soon.
Challenging course
Course in really good shape. Greens rolling pretty smooth after a recent punch. Played during afternoon for a reasonable price. Like most of the better courses in Northern Va. It is quite expensive during prime and weekends. Overall, nice layout and a nice challenge. The range is a negative with only being able to hit irons. Nets for woods.
Beautiful golf course
Very nice golf course. I highly recommend playing this course. Well maintained and really nice view from most of the holes. If you go during twightlight hours its not expensive.
Challenging course.
Unfortunately, greens had been aerated in previous weeks and had not grown in - so greens were in very rough shape. I am sure when they are grown in though that they would be good.
Iron only driving range - woods hit into net - FYI.
Lots of opportunity to get in trouble on this course with forest lining all fairways. Not much water at all to worry about. Lots of elevation changes and challenging bunkers. Didn't find any real holes you could let up on - especially if pin locations are tough.
A good challenge... if you want a mindless relaxing round then maybe pick a different course until you want this challenge.
Nice Course
Nice course with well maintained fairways and greens. Fairways are fairly wide which is great for beginners who constantly slice thier tee shots.
Well maintained
It was a cold winter but the course condition is still pretty good. My only problem was the green which was quite slippery and the ball bounced pretty hard. I couldn't stop the ball the way I wanted to. I managed to get 1 birdie but missing 4-5 par putts.
Fun course
This course it's lots of fun you will enjoy all of the par 4 and 5
Great course
Great course and green were in great shape. Great value for money.
Excellent conditions
Lots of hills and course was in excellent condition. no complaints. played in the afternoon during the week and it felt like we were the only ones out on the course.
Shotmaking a must
Course in good shape for this time of year. Nice weather brought out the crowds on a tuesday though. slow play
Great, challenging course by Tom Fazio
Nice and great value. Will play again soon
if Golfnow deals are available.
Enjoyable experience, challenging greeens
Played on consecutive Saturdays, so you know it's on the "good" to "better" list. 5 days after Hurricane Sandy, the course was well drained although they requested cart path only. This held up play as we were a 2-some behind a couple 4-somes. Pace really slows on holes 16-18 anyway. Greens still had plenty of pace. Pinsetter must have been practicing for superintendent's revenge because they were in some brutal spots. "Super friendly" staff rating isn't high enough. From check-in to starter to beverage cart to 19th hole, great service and friendly demeanor. "Great" value because of the Golfnow discount. Regular rate of $89 this late in the year would be high.
challenging but fair
Great conditions but be prepared for a challenge. The white tees are generous but if you are 15 or lower handicap you might want to move back one tee. Very narrow fairways and several difficult fairway bunkers. All multi-level greens so you have to place your shot to the green in the quadrant that offers the best putt or you will 3 putt them all. Be straight off the tee even if you have to drop back to a hybrid to hit the fairway.
challenging but fair, great condition
Look forward to playing Old Hickory every time I go. A great course, you can vary your distances every time by using the championship tees (gold), or the white tees.
