Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

Golfer Reviews
Good course management needed, fun course!
Great course with good length! I think who ever placed the pins that day was the spawn of The devil! Ha ha. Very tough pin placements that day!! Challenging course where course management is a must. Traps that day were horrendous! I'll chalk that up to the recent downpours. Glad I missed them!
One of my favorite courses in Northern VA
I love this course. It's always in great shape, and I can usually find a good deal on Golf Now for under $70. I wouldn't pay more than $80 to play here (I try to pick tee times that are in the $50-60 range), even though I think it's worth $80-100 it normally goes for considering the shape it's in. It's definitely longer than most courses in the area (from the black and gold tees) and it's pretty challenging. Great course layout and some of the best greens you'll see on a public course in Northern VA. The course is very well maintained from tee to green and everything in between. I've played a handful of country clubs in the area and this course is definitely country club quality. If you like to drink while you play (I usually like to enjoy a beer or six, depending on how well I'm playing), the cart girl is attentive and you can even open up a tab with your credit card! Golf courses everywhere take note! The pace of play has never been an issue for me, and it's only a short drive from the DC area. If I had to find something negative to say about this course, I guess the driving range could be bigger (since it's only about 230 yards deep, you have to hit woods into a net - a small concession I'm willing to make for an otherwise great experience). Even the clubhouse is impressive, which features a full bar, which is great because I like to have a drink on the deck and watch players finish on #18 after my round. Whenever I use Golf Now, I check for tee times at Old Hickory first. Highly recommend.
BA-ZING
Great course, greens roll true with challenging pin placement.
Great staff, especially on the beverage cart.
For those who shoot 85 and lower....you will love it here.
The course has generous fairways, and immaculate greens. The rough was certainly penalizing, but fair.
Nice course...but expensive
With the Golfnow discount it was still $70. Very nice course, but as with NoVa, it is overpriced. Course is in good shape, greens are fast and smooth.
Would play again if the price was right.
Excellent twilight rate! Outstanding greens.
Played at 4pm in the afternoon for $40 (without the golfnow discount) and joined up with a threesome at the #1 tee. Didn't get a chance to warm up or use the practice area but was told you can only hit the driver into a net. Course was in fantastic shape and the greens were fairly fast and true. Due to a tournament that day the hole positions were very difficult. Overall a challenging course and gorgeous layout.
Excellent twilight rates
I won't go into too many details .. go there 4 pm or after since the daylight is longer these days .. not too crowded, course is in great condition (the greens are awesome), & not we were not frustrated with waiting around .. check it out !
Great course in great condition.
Had a great round at Old Hickory - not my score as much as the experience. Love the course and it was in great shape. It was also nice to tee off at 11:30am on a Saturday and enjoy the course almost to ourselves - I guess because of the holiday weekend.
At 4 PM they don't care...
Nice course. I live 15 minutes away so it is convenient for me. Unfortunately, I may not be playing here much anymore. The prices are too steep early in the day. We reserved a 3:51 on Sunday, May 26. The first tee is a good ways away from the clubhouse and they must not have a starter at the super twilight time. The course couldn't care less...they sent like 8 groups off of 1 at the same time...we did not tee off until 4:10 PM and it was a major logjam. My buddy was paying for his round and asked the guy checking him in "how he was doing" and the guy responded with "wait a minute". I've also had the guy behind the desk tell me when I was a single that I could basically go to anywhere on the course where I could "find an opening". At the time, I appreciated it, but if he is telling multiple people that then it creates a culture of people driving wherever they want with no order.
I do NOT recommend this course if there is no starter. I do enjoy the course when there are not many people on it, unfortunately the crew at Old Hickory are not very friendly and efficient.
I'll be going to Westfields or other courses in the area.
nice course -- super greens, but rough not well maintained.
friendly staff. appreciated the starter getting us as a twosome out before a couple of foursomes. clubhouse a bit dirty (women's locker room). carpets needed vacuuming. grounds crew seemed oblivious to golfers; didn't stop mowers when groups approached.
nice course
Decent value. A well maintained course with cordial customer service - most of the staff except for the starter seemed like they would rather be somewhere else actually. Pace of play was close to 5hrs on a Tuesday morning so that was rough. Priced a bit high at $60...but not terrible. Would recommend this course to friends.
Great Course, but challenging from the back tees
Course was in pristine conditions - Hole placement was a challenge on some greens, but still had a great time. Pace of play was better than average.
well kept, but ultimately disappointing
I believe I've given this course a fair shake -- playing half a dozen times in the past two years -- but it's over; I'm officially done with it. It's well maintained, and the short game practice area places one in a great frame of mind to start the day, but the house-lined fairways, relatively narrow landing areas (at least if you value a somewhat flat lie) and, in particular, the multi-tiered green complexes conspire to drain one's enthusiasm by the 6th hole or so. Save your money and go play elsewhere; it's certainly not worth the drive down from the DC area.
Very challenging putting surfaces
Overall a very good course for the Golf Now price (I would not pay the normal rate to play there).
Well maintained, great greens, solid layout. Will be back.
First time I played this course and it is one of the best I have played in the past year. Well maintained, greens were running fast and true. Nice practice facility as well.
Rounding in to shape
The course is still recovering from aeration, but the greens are mostly rolling true, and the other areas are being prepped for the main season.
Awesome course, pick the correct tees for an honest test of your game.
Conditions getting better by the day!
Always a favorite. Staff is fantastic and the course is beginning to shape up after the winter. They have cut down many "extreme rough" conditions and opened up playability. Will play there again soon.
Challenging course
Course in really good shape. Greens rolling pretty smooth after a recent punch. Played during afternoon for a reasonable price. Like most of the better courses in Northern Va. It is quite expensive during prime and weekends. Overall, nice layout and a nice challenge. The range is a negative with only being able to hit irons. Nets for woods.
Beautiful golf course
Very nice golf course. I highly recommend playing this course. Well maintained and really nice view from most of the holes. If you go during twightlight hours its not expensive.
