Whisper Creek
The key to this course is being in the first few groups of the day. Otherwise you are looking at 5 hour rounds. Today the course was in great shape. Didn’t see anyone until the 14th hole. Course was generally in great shape except for 8 and 18 which was cart path only. But it’s to be expected with all the rain. I hope the exposed drain tile in some of the bunkers is a sign that whisper Creek is working on the drainage. Green we’re rolling and holding well. Rough was at a manageable length but again with the rain it’s almost impossible to keep up.
Saturday golf
Outings or not there should never let 5 domes play as it will slow down the entire course or just do not book any other play for that day
Challenging & Fair
The course was completely open, never had to wait for anyone. Each hole had its challenge but hole 8 was the hardest I had to play. The course was ready for play with minimal areas where water had saturated the ground. Some bunkers could have used some sand but this is a nice place to play.
Challenging - but not well maintained
Many challenging holes in a rambling layout. Lots of variety for 18 holes. Off course amenities are average but expensive. Good driving range and practice layout. But the course is desperately in need of work - both on the maintenance as well as the management side. This course does not handle heavy rain very well and this summer slammed the course. The greens are pitted with ball marks - whether the cause is failure to repair ball marks or whether the greens need to be plugged and sanded - the result is the same. The sand traps are so unplayable they constitute ground under repair. In dryer times the traps are well laid out so as to challenge the golfer. But they are equal parts pebbles and sand. The tee boxes are pitted with ruts from overuse. The tee markers are not moved enough to prevent overplay. The course suffers from major Canada Goose droppings making certain holes disgusting. There are many other courses in this area that have handled hard rains and heavy play, so the only explanation for the course condition is poor management. Pace of play makes the course condition even more annoying. While the service staff is friendly they do not monitor pace of play. Rounds of 4 1/2 hour’s is typical. The pro shop is adequate. Best advice is avoid weekend play and days when leagues play. Avoid play for a week after rain. Value for your golfing dollar is better spent on another course or once the course is brought back to a playable condition. Fire up Go,f Advisor and find a better course with a better deal.
Great value, quick for Sunday
$40, thanks to golfnow.. tee time 10:40 and done in less than 4 hours with a threesome. I’ve golfed here enough to know not to expect this every time but today was a treat... download their app, it’s worth it.
Very enjoyable round but PLEASE fix the bunkers!
Good course nice value but the bunkers are terrible . Please fix them.
Fun and Fair
This was a good course well west of Chicago. It was quite open with a couple of twists and turns that made is some what challenging. The greens had quite a bit of slope and the pin placements were a welcomed challenge. I'm sure I'll find myself out here again.
Slow Play
After a 5 hour round of golf we may not go back. This is at least the 2nd time for this pace of play. No marshals, very poor way to treat people. They may not want to upset the slow group by asking them to speed up or pick up, but it is OK to upset everyone else behind them. To bad, we use to like to play here.
Good value for the money
I like the course layout. Holes are challenging. The only issue is the course has some low lying areas. The previous rains have made the sand bunkers into dirt. Signature hole 8 has large area that is in need of repair. Greens didnt seem to roll as fast as previous trips. Glad to see the ranger making his rounds to keep slow play at bay.
A Wet Mess!
Played here numerous times and since Casper took over there have been improvements to the course as well as moderating the costs. Well, I don't see that anymore. First time here this year and most likely the last.
Major problem? Standing water on every hole! Why? They only had .6 inches the previous night. Pro Shop Dude cried about the abundance of rain one the past couple weeks. I've played many other courses in the area in DRY conditions. Drainage issue?
Not what it used to be
Have not played here in five years. They have let it go.
The bunkers are awful and they let long grass grow all over the place so it's lost balls and slow play. I hit a rock in a bunker the size of my fist that was under my ball but could not see it.
Not going back.
Great place to play
RIDE THE GOLF BOARDS! Very cool and different experience to surf the course on one of these badboys.
Typical Turtle Round at Whisper Creek
Haven't played Whisper in about 10 years. Now I remember why....it's always way too crowded, slow play abounds - never enforced and in December it shouldn't take 5 hours plus to play. The track is somewhat interesting with trouble to fend off but the overall conditions (typical Billy Casper mismanagement) are a major put off. I know it's off season but come on. Greens completely pockmarked with ball marks and the quality of the course has gone way downhill over the past several years (Billy Casper and the horrible way they maintain the green sites).....every single course they manage has major issues. I'd like to have a round at this place that's 4.5 hours or less but it never happens. It's a $30 to $40 course at most. The staff is nice but when you have a bunch of turtles and resident members who think they own the course that takes the fun out of trying to play this place. Plus we got paired up with a guy that held up the course to the point where I had to apologize to group behind us after the round.....and it was a member who didn't care how long he took for the wind to possibly die down for his tee shot and we basically had to lead him around his own golf course....couldn't even see where his ball went. Completely ridiculous. Doubt our group will return anytime soon.
