About
del Lago Golf Club sits at an elevation of 3,400 feet, enjoying a temperature that is five degrees cooler than Tucson in the summer, which makes a big difference under the hot Arizona sun. Winding through the hills and valleys of the high desert, the golf course features over 120 feet of elevation changes that present tricky uneven lies. The dramatic undulations also offer beautiful views of the Rincon and Santa Catalinas Mountain ranges. Golfers start at the highest point on the course and then play down into the valley before getting to the back nine, which plays along the Pantano Wash. The first hole is the only forced carry on the course, the remaining holes are friendlier off the tees. Seven lakes dot the golf course, coming into play on six holes, and there is also heavy bunkering around the greens.

Fun Layout; Needs Maintenance
The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The course layout is one of the most interesting in the area, with many elevation changes and several holes where water comes into play. However, the bunkers are some of the worst I've seen and the greens are in poor condition. Still, this course is fun to play.

Nice layout, but needs maintenance
The greens are quite poor. In fact, they don't even look green. The grass is spotty but the roll is still pretty true. Traps have been totally ignored, which seems to be an issue with many courses. I would call them rock or gravel traps. The fairways were in decent shape for Arizona, that is, not thick and very short cut.
The staff was fine, the layout of the course was interesting, with some elevation changes and water.

Lots of L Doglegs
Fairways (over seeded rye) were good. Dormant Bermuda rough mostly ok. Bunkers were raked, but stoney and too little sand depth to be playable. Design: relentless doglegs L. Greens were quite playable.
Practice area quite good. Would add distance indicators on the range.

This course has it all
Overall its a good course with great views and every hole has challenging features that make it fun to play.
Only issues were 1-the condition of the greens. They were vary inconsistent and not in very good shape. 2-the traps were lacking sand and some contained stones. And then along comes a single trap amongst these that’s had 6” of pure fluffy sand put in it that’s (I’m guessing) suppose to be an improvement? After the experience of traps with stones and no sand, and then going into a overly fluffy sanded trap, was too much of a challenge for my game or lack there of; took a stroke and threw it out.

Staff
Told starter we wanted to tee off golds (usually blue). He asked me my handicap. I told him. He laughed and questioned it a few times before giving us a talking to. Ended up shooting a 74. Should’ve went with the tips and not let the old man bring me forward. The bunkers suck. There’s no sand. It’s hard as desert ground. If they can’t upkeep them, they should fill them. Pricey for a place that carts brakes won’t work and a few greens are pretty crabby.

So-So experience
On a different day my experience may have been different. Extremely slow pace…I think due to the difficulty. Bring plenty of balls! Felt like we had to rush with no place to go. Greens were very rough and disappointing. Only a different time of year would have helped that. Challenging course layout.

I probably will not play Del Lago ever again.
It actually was one of my favorite courses to play, at one time. I do not enjoy listening to all the surrounding homeowners dogs barking. At one point my friends and I even felt afraid of some dogs which sounded extremely mad and dangerous and we were afraid the dogs might get loose and attack us. You might even consider changing the course name to Barking Dogs Golf Course. Unfortunate and unenjoyable.

4 Seniors
Need to add a course layout map on the score card or give a course layout book with score card. Greens are terrible. Looks like they got over run with weeds. Lots of trash around the course. Lack of trash can at tees & water stations. Tee’s were not level.. It’’s a $50 course tops not $70+. Need to keep kids off the course during play.
