del Lago Golf Club

This is a tough course. Not recommended if you can't shoot below 100 for 18 holes. Course is in good shape but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Course Conditions on 7/17/21:

Tee boxes- 4.5/5 No complaints.

Fairways- 3/5 Good but not fantastic. Few dead dirt patches here and there but nothing that affected scoring. I've seen the fairways in better shape here in the summer but they are better than most places in Tucson right now.

Rough- 4/5 At least they have grass for the rough instead of hard pan.

Greens- 4/5 Greens were in great shape but put slow as do all courses in Tucson.

Bunkers- 0/5 Bunkers not even playable. Large rocks and dirt so hard and compacted it will liberally put a gash in your wedge and I'm not joking. This is my biggest gripe with del Lago. They really need to fix the bunkers.

Driving range: 4.5/5 best tee boxes on a range in tucson I know of.

Course in good shape.....keep up the good work. Staff friendly...especially starter. We have always enjoyed playing at Del Lago. Has good character.

Highly recommended course just outside Tucson. Friendly staff, nice practice range and putting green. My twosome played in 3:15 mostly because we are rusty and looked for errant shots too often. Fairways and greens in great condition. Tee markers were placed in many uneven areas but this could be easily remedied. As many have said, bunkers are TERRIBLE. I've played here over the past three years and they haven't improved. Just agree with your playing partners to lift and drop outside. Really, they should let them grow over and mow.

I'll definitely play again in the summer when the snowbirds are away. It's one of the best $40 options in Tucson.

I have played this course many times and found it to always be challenging. The views are spectacular. Overall course condition is better than most in the area. Great staff and pace of play was surprisingly good for being a Sunday morning. The only issue they have right now is the bunkers, but they are scheduled to fix them very soon. Very much a desert course that requires you to be able to control distance and accuracy. Also a great value for the price. Put this one on your list to play. You will enjoy yourself!

Fairways decent, some dry spots. Grrrns slow but smooth and held. Bunkers have always needed work here. Stuff very friendly and accommodating.

I've been playing Del Lago for more than 15 years now and the course has never been in better shape. The sand bunkers need work but ownership and management are addressing that issue. The fairways are firm and well groomed.

The greens are playing about 10 on the Stimp meter. The only real issue is that the players don't fill in their divots or fix their ball marks on the greens.

Great course and conditions were great . Course was in great shape and the beverage girl was great.

Check in staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The starter "Lou" went way out of his way to make sure we had some knowledge of the course. He even marked the course map to show us the best way to approach each hole. The only drawback of this course we were told is that it's always WINDY!! Today was no exception. There was a very slow group on the course holding several groups up and they had no intentions of allowing anyone to play through. Needs a Marshall to perhaps educate the non-golfer types who are clueless on golf etiquette.

This is a great layout and course designed by Gary Penz out of Chicago. The layout is great and very challenging. One that you can play many times and never get board playing. Unlike other desert courses this one has elevation changes and your shot down between desert hills. Green are great Bermuda and very challenges. Speed probably around 10 when we played. Traps need work but I think all traps on all courses need help. Just a great course for the money and speed of play was excellent at 4:10. One of the best layouts and courses in Tucson. Definitely worth the trip to Vail.

Pace was great and the course was in great condition.

I'm very disappointed in the conditions of the course for the price. I paid $72 (afternoon tee time) and the course played like a $30 hard pan city course. Here are how the conditions played on 3/6/21.

Tee Boxes: 4/5 They where green and well taken care of

Fairway: 2/5 Fairway was green but they buzzed the grass down so short that it was like playing off a hard pan super tight lie. Really hurt my scoring, what happened to fluffy fairways?

Rough: 0/5 Dormant, I really hate that all the courses let their rough die in the winter.

Greens: 4/5 Greens were good but not fantastic. Green speed good although it was on the slow side, but not painfully slow.

Bunkers: 1/5 Terrible bunkers. Large rocks in the bunkers that put gashes in your wedges. I gave up and stopped playing the bunkers after the 3rd hole because they were that bad. If rocks were not bad enough the sand was terrible too.

Overall disappointed in the course conditions. There are a lot better conditions for around $35 or $50 in the area. This is a great course, it just needs some work on the fairways and bunkers. Hope they can get it ready before the summer heat.

I have played this course in all seasons. I have played here for over 6 years. It has always been in better shape than now.. The reasons why would just use up space. It's a nice course in need of some water and some maintenance. It's very playable. But for the money, you could go to so many other places.

We really enjoyed our round and the food and drinks on the patio.
