Nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills, DarkHorse Golf Club tumbles across a magnificent landscape that once served as a cattle ranch. The course incorporates a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. This tough layout is definitely not for the faint of heart. From short par 3s to monstrous par 5s, this course has a little bit of everything. The severely sloped greens demand accuracy and the bunkers were strategically placed to provide a multitude of shot-making opportunities. Tricky doglegs and uphill and downhill lies aren't the only challenges you'll face, there are also several water hazards that come into play throughout and an abundance of trees that make it even more difficult to navigate your ball. DarkHorse G.C. is situated 50 miles east of Sacramento and though it might be a bit of a drive to get there, local golfers consider the round well worth the trip.

Aeration of greens underway

Front 9 just just punched and sand being placed during daytime rounds. 7 of the front 9 greens had no pins. Expect back 9 next week, but all back in good shape in a few weeks.

Best course for your money

Darkhorse is the best public course by FAR. Beautiful, very green, well maintained greens, elevation changes, and nice wide fairways. For the price you pay, this course is in a whole different league from all the other public courses.

Diamond in the Rough

This was our first time playing this course. Fairways were in beautiful condition, sand traps were real sand, fringes were mowed and greens were smooth. Highly recommend and plan to play again soon!

First time at Darkhorse. I was pleasantly surprised. Loved the lay-out. It was a fair set up with some holes in difficult positions and others were totally accessible. I really liked how soft the greens were. I was able to be aggresive without the fear of balls completely rolling off the greens. I will definitely make it a part of my monthly rotation.

Course for golfers

The course has an excellent layout. It is nice and challenging. The greens are in excellent shape. They do not have any kind of clubhouse. If you love golf it’s a great place to go. It is not a place to go to a restaurant or socialize.
