Fairways and bunkers
The fairways aren't in the best condition, hardpan everywhere. The bunkers have no sand at all, many are being fitted with drainage. This course could be great if it was taken care of.
Hi ksnakanishi,
Thank you for leaving a review. We are disappointed to know you weren't satisfied with the conditions of our course. We are working hard to improve the conditions and we hope to see you back soon!

Rude staff
8:30 tee time no range balls available 15 golfers waiting to warm up on a Sunday. Talked to staff asked about some balls in the lesson area was told to grab them then was cursed and yelled at for doing so this course is run by a bunch of unprofessional fools do your self a favor and chose a real course to play at save the headache
Back 9 closed
Back 9 was closed due to maintenance and no one told me this before I made my NON REFUNDABLE reservations. Front 9 greens were being aeriated and the greens were full of sand. Putting was a JOKE.
If I could have gotten a refund I would have went somewhere else to play but I was stuck.
Hi "U000001325604" We apologize about the confusion today. Unfortunately aferification is unavoidable but this should have been noted in your tee time notes. I would recommend notifying the online website you made your tee with and see if anything can be done. Thanks
Mediocre Staff Manager!
Their co-manager ( Robert) is zero friendly, to him is all about selling and not being courteous. I never write reviews but this is the third time this person is just not polite with the customers. It's too bad, I used to be a member of their players club which had a great atmosphere, I hope the owner/s take action and open their eyes.
The course is nice! The greens were a bit bumpy, but overall great.
Cheers and hope for a better management!!
HI "Aldo8858970" We appreciate your honest feedback regarding the course and staff. We will take a closer look into this review and hope to settle any discrepancies.
nice challenge
Course well placed into the the surrounding canyons.Lots of elevations changes make the course fun.Links style fairways , your ball will run a lot.. will play again
HI "turflover77" Thank you for taking the time to review our course. We appreciate the great feedback and hope that the course was challenging yet fun for you today.
Link style
The best practice facilities in San Diego County
HI "u000007994441" Thank you so much for the great compliment. We are so glad that we can be considered. Please come back and visit us again soon.
Some dynamic features.
Quite of few elevations. Can be somewhat challenging. The greens are very slow, can fool you at times. Most bunkers were under repair for draining reasons. I will definitely will play this golf course again.
Hi "Pablo4304898" We appreciate your honest review. We appreciate your patience as the course is transiitoning out of its summer season. Please come back and visit us again soon.
My favorite track in S.D.
Please don't go if you like to complain about your game. This is a "Links Course". Play the course a few times before righting reviews. This course has the best lay out in S.D. and is great for whatever game you have. If your not long hit it low and let it roll. Play the high side of the fairway on drives. Play it short to greens and let it roll on. And if that's not working, look around and enjoy the beautiful scenery. And if you don't like it after that, don't go back. But please don't knock this track for giving you a spanking!!! Lol.
Good day of golfing
Had a saturday @ 3pm tee time so it was a little crowded; got a really good deal through this website.
Negatives first. Waited on a few holes, ended up skipping one hole altogether because of slowness of that group- still took 5.5 hours. Saw maybe one marshal the whole time so enforcing speed of play was not a priority.
Sand traps were like concrete in places, others had channels cut through by water runoff and were dried out. Shockingly disappointed here.
Greens were in good shape- balls rolled true and were consistent; fairways were also nice. Don't recall having to hit out of divots or other repair marks. Tee boxes mostly flat and in good shape.
Amenities are good- friendly bar (but maybe understaffed), snack cart didn't come around enough though. Decent driving range. Carts are good and the scorecard is well laid out with hitting suggestions.
Overall- despite some clear negatives had a great time. Good for people who aren't snobs and just out to enjoy a round. Great views of the desert landscape, hills, city. Saw a rattlesnake and a roadrunner. Course layout is average in difficulty; some holes will punish bad shots. Happened to play from the short tees with this group (long layoff since last my outing) so can't really comment on length.
Great Pace (for a change)
I played on Sunday, starting at noon, as I quite often do because they offer a Hot Deal for one or two tee times between noon and 1pm. The course is too expensive if played at normal rates. Yesterday, unlike the usual backlog of players, there was no one on the course, and what is normally a 5 hour round became a very welcome 3 hours. The weather was perfect, and the course was in good shape, except for the bunkers. I can't call them sand traps, as virtually none of them had sand in them. A couple of them were marked Ground Under Repair, and a few others should have also been marked so. The greens were relatively fast and rolled true, and it looks as though they are letting the grass grow in some of the rough areas. No starter and no marshal, which is normal, but since there were so few patrons, this wasn't a problem. No beverage cart either. Really enjoyed the day mainly due to the pace and weather.
Hi "mfwhitmore" Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. We hope you enjoyed your speedy round with us please come back and visit us again soon.
Good course structure, scenic
Fun but challenging course
Great Day of golf.
Just wanted to give a shout out to the golf pro Chis.He is friendly, polite and tries to accomadate all tee times. He does it all with a good old Texas drawl.
HI "u000006538379" Thank you so much for the great review. We are so glad you enjoyed your day with us.
A golf course that presents tough challenging fairways and easily get your ball out of play when your not aware on the fairways rolling character
Very nice high elevation GOlf course, but stay out of those woods and wetland cause of rattle Snakes presence.

Great value
Excellent weather on a fun and reasonably challenging course. The pace of play was decent but I'm not the fastest golfer on the course either!

Links style course in the hills of sunny CA. Very pretty views and some challenging holes. White tees are great for a beginner and make it pretty easy. Back tees can be s challenge. They have a nice range of tees in the middle too. Greens run true and are challenging. Practice facilities are good and the staff is friendly. Overall a high recommendation.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
The Good: Very interesting layout and the greens were fast and true. It's rare course that actually does play like a links-style course in many ways.
The Bad -- The service could be a lot better. The pro shop said they would call our group to the first tee, but only one "on the tee" call came out from the pro shop, and it wasn't for us. There were several groups hanging around the first tee that had no idea when they were supposed to tee off, or it what order. In the mean time, they turned the sprinklers on where all of the "waiting to go" carts were parked, soaking everyone's golf bags, seats, and carts. Worse was when my cart started to lose power on the 12th hole, and we called the pro shop for help -- they said that they were sending someone out there to help us, but no one came. Fortunately my cart eventually regained full power on it's own, but I can't believe that they would let someone get potentially stranded out on the course.
The Ugly -- The course is not exactly pristine. Weedy areas abound and the course has let many (mostly out of play areas) die off. The bunkers are probably the worst problem, as they have no sand in them. The lack of sand is the biggest detriment to the course's playability.
If you can get past the not so picturesque elements, the course actually plays pretty well and is a really fun links-style track. If you like your golf courses to be well-manicured gems, this is not the course for you. The service issues really need to be worked out.
cheshirelynx,

Fun Course
Fun Course with Good Greens but the bunkers were horrible as most were under repair. Didn't see anything in the clubhouse or online that suggested that this were the case.
andrewwilletts,
Thank you for the review and for playing your last round with us! We are excited to hear that you liked the course and hope that you will come back again soon!

Salt Creek- June 2016
Overall rating 3
Layout is challenging, offering sloped fairways, elevation changes and narrow fairways to small greens surrounded by treacherous bunkers with more than enough break.
Pace of play is what you would expect from a muni. Definitely on the slower side, expect 5+ hours during peak times.
Course conditions from the top. Tee boxes are terrible, no flat spots with some containing crater like crevices in the middle, forcing players to tee back or risk breaking an ankle. 1 star
Fairways tight with a lot of slope, very challenging to hold these bad boys which forces the payer to hit precision tee shots. 4 stars
Bunkers... I guess you'd call theses bunkers however they are more like concrete pits. If you care about the longevity of your clubs, take a drop and don't risk gouging an iron. Greenside bunkers are unplayable. Not one bunker I looked in had sand. 0 stars
Greens are tough. Varying speed from 9-11 and they break twice as much as the putt reads. A lot of undulation which require the player to place approaches. Most putts will wobble off line. You will need some luck on these greens.

We were on vacation in San Diego visiting my son. We picked this course as one of the three we wanted to play on the trip. We had a great time. The pro at the clubhouses was very friendly and welcoming. The course was in good condition with exception to a few bunkers under repair. The pace of play was excellent and the scenery was terrific. We will play here again. Another great Golf Now trip.
Samwil,
Thank you for playing with us recently! We are glad to hear how much you enjoyed your experience here! We hope that you will come back and play here again soon!
