Wildcat Golf Club - The Highlands
About
The Highlands Course is probably the more stimulating of the two tracks at Wildcat GC, offering better views of the city, natural wetlands and grasses, and some intriguing flat sand bunkers. Case must have an affinity for the No. 7, because like the Lakes track, the 421-yard, par 4 hole 7 is the most difficult rated hole. Watch out for the par 5s on this one, three of which play at or above 570 yards from the tips.
Getting there : From downtown take Hwy. 288 south for 5 miles to Loop 610. Head west and find the Fannin exit, where you'll U-turn under 610 and drive east on the access road to Almeda Rd. Turn right on Almeda and the course is 3 miles further.

Excellent
I have played a lot of courses around the Houston area and have to say that I loved this course. One of the best public courses around and can't wait to play it when everything greens up. Great course
Bring Your Putting game to these greens.
The Highlands course is very nice. The fairways are wide on most holes, the fun really begins on the seriously undulating greens. I had 2- 4putts and my putting is usually my strong game. The scenery is very nice, with a nice view of Reliant stadium and much of Houstons bldgs.
I love to walk , but would not consider this one, due to the distance and elevations from check in to driving range then back to the first tee.
I do recommend this course.
I love this course
I love the greens at Wildcat. Always in good condition.
Happy
Nice nice and nice very good course will b back
Challenging
A lot of holes that have unseen hazards. A cart gps system would be extremely helpful. Enjoyed the compexity. After playing it once you could probably figure out what club to use.
The layout of holes were very interesting. If in the area again we will definitely play here. Any golfer should play here at least once in their golfing years. Course very well maintained
Great Course - You need to play this when in Houston
This is a great course that is located very near downtown Houston. It is in great shape, good fairways, nicely kept greens. No complaints about this course, other than the fact it is tough in places. We played this and the Highlands. Both are in great shape, I thought the Highlands were tougher than the Lakes. Have fun!!!
Best Course in Houston
Hands down my favorite course in Houston. Great location, staff and conditions.
I'llBe Back
Played both courses 2 days in a row, and scored better on this course than Lakes, so of course I like this one better. Not as difficult as Lakes course, but as soon as you stand on the tee box, you can tell where to hit your shots. The holes are framed well, the greens were fast and true, and not covered with ball marks.
As with the Lakes course, local knowledge would be very helpful, as is knowing which tees to play for your skill level. I am 58, played one tee box up from the tips, and had to use every club in my bag, which to me means the designed did a great job.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
If you want to play a quality facility, you have to play Wildcat. For the money, I cannot believe there is a better place in Houston area.
Simply the best
I cannot believe there is a better place in the Houston area to golf that at Wildcat. Both courses are challenging, yet fair as long as you play the correct tee boxes for your skill level. Played with my brother, a once in a while golfer, and an old HS golf coach. The golf coach and I scored well, brother lost close to 20 golf balls.
As for the course, the Lakes is the tougher of the 2 (Highlands is the other course), as its name tells you there is lots of water to deal with. The greens were fast and true, and not covered with unrepaired ball marks as we encountered at 2 other Houston facilities. For January, the fairways were in good shape considering the rain that fell recently. and the traps were as good as could be expected since they were rather wet.
Best advice, don't go for the driver if you are not straight with it. Play to your strengths and you can score well. Local knowledge is helpful as carts did not have GPS, and with winter dormant colors, fairways were not always easy to see in a few spots. Use the markers on the signs at each tee box, and the layout becomes easy to figure out.
People in the clubhouse were extremely friendly, as was the folks at the grill. It is apparent they love their course and I don't blame them a bit. Quality everywhere.
I really need to get to this course in the late spring and see it in all its glory as I have only played here in January. But for the money, you cannot beat this place. Thank you Tim and John for a great experience.
Wildcat Lakes
Great course and challenging .
Fighting wind all day
Course was in decent shape - great, fast greens. The course is elevated, and susceptible to heavy wind, which I had to fight all day. Nice elevation changes throughout the course, and a couple of holes had tricky water hazards - some weren't noticeable, so had to lay up on shots where I'd usually go for it. Overall, a fair course.
Wildcat Highlands
I was teamed up with another 3some. It poured the day before. We played cart-path only the whole round. we had 3 carts and played ready golf. day was beautiful but cool. my new 3 friends are great people and the course is tremendous for all levels of play.
Excellent all around
It had been raining a little but course was still 90 degrees, no wet spots, and greens were true and fast.
If you can get a deal, take it. If not, it is even worth full price.
Nice Views
staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Although not happy about being told the day before if there was no rain overnight [which there wasn't] we would be off the cart path but not so when we arrived. Green on Hole #18 Highlands needs tremendous amount of work as it is completely filled with divots that have not been fixed for awhile. But you can't beat the scenery from this course really great for those who haven't seen the many city views or live in the burbs.
Terrific Condition
For late December, the course was in great condition. The fairways were very nice and the greens were rolling very smoothly. Wildcat always seems to be in prime playing condition.
Great and challenging course
A must play for all types of golfers low and high handicapers alike. Definitely a must play course and will be back there again.
Solid Design
Wildcat Highlands is a very good design that's fun to play since there is a bit of elevation change, something rare in Houston. The course is kept in very good condition and is playable for all levels of golfers. Wind is a factor as it's built on top of an old waste ground. Since there are few trees the wind affects your shots, which adds to the challenge of the course.
Houston golf
A few quirky holes and you have to play the course to appreciate. Otherwise, close to city and good value.
Great conditions
Love this course except for the blind shots esp on the tee
