Wildcat Golf Club - The Highlands
About
The Highlands Course is probably the more stimulating of the two tracks at Wildcat GC, offering better views of the city, natural wetlands and grasses, and some intriguing flat sand bunkers. Case must have an affinity for the No. 7, because like the Lakes track, the 421-yard, par 4 hole 7 is the most difficult rated hole. Watch out for the par 5s on this one, three of which play at or above 570 yards from the tips.
Getting there : From downtown take Hwy. 288 south for 5 miles to Loop 610. Head west and find the Fannin exit, where you'll U-turn under 610 and drive east on the access road to Almeda Rd. Turn right on Almeda and the course is 3 miles further.

Good but expensive for a week day
Good course. This time the pace of play was slow. 5 hours on a Thursday at 10 am. Marshals do not tell players when they are too slow. Many good courses in Houston are a lot cheaper on a week day.
The course offers change of elevation which is rare in Houston. That is the reason why I like to play there.
Great time
Played the highlands course and it was a lot of fun. Got a good deal $22 on golf now and had a blast. Tough course take the time to drive ahead and look at the entire hole before you start. Take your time and think about how to attack each one. If you're in a hurry go somewhere else or don't play golf.
Great Greens
This course is very Nice. I could actually say they are absolutely nice. All the greens, in a nut shell, I can boldly say "Great Greens"...
lakes course
Course was in fairly good shape following all the recent rain. Sand traps needs some work.
Good value
Hard to tell it's on top of the old landfill, has water forced carry galore and elevation changes make for challenging golf. First timer will need golf gps to save balls from getting wet. Bonus is some good view of downtown Houston, since it is so flat everywhere else in Texas.
Be ready
Great course!! Extremely windy but makes it a challenge to club up big time. GREAT COURSE
Ever hole will test your game
From the first hole, you need be accurate from tee to green. There are plenty of hard tee shots, even the par 3's are long and challenging. Great course
Built on a landfill....
Maybe I'm being picky, but I couldn't get over the fact I was playing on a landfill. Also, the game wasn't as enjoyable because there were so many blind shots. On a few holes there were nice views of the city, however, the majority of the course had the feel of playing in an industrial area. I have no intention of returning to this course.
Above average
The fairways are average, greens are very good and the staff is always very nice.
This public course could be misconstrued as a private course at 82.00 green fee. If not for Golfnow, we would have played another nearby course. This was our second time to play here and we were happy with the overall experience.
Great after lunch place to play
Course was in great shape good view of Houston from a couple of the tee boxes
Great shape !!!
I had not played Wildcat in 2-3 years. I was not disappointed. The staff was very friendly, the course was in excellent shape and the greens were near perfect. Got a $19 hot deal on Golfnow. It was worth the drive (about 40 miles for me). Come check it out. you'll be glad you did !!
Very Challenging
Wildcat is a great course. Best greens in town! A must play!
Greens were in good shape
Course seemed a little dry due to recent drought, except for some parts that were slushy from lots of irrigation. Overall good value for the $33 I paid.
Challenging course close to the city
I find Highlands to be one of the more challenging courses in Houston. It can be fun too, with great service, good views of the city and typically great conditions. Despite the modest yardage the blind shots, elevated greens and unrecoverable rough make this a course for accuracy. The greens tend to be in good shape and roll average to quick depending on recent weather.
Prices can be steep for a public course, but the consistently good conditions can warrant it. This latest round was a last minute deal on GolfNow that made it worthwhile when normally I would have played the local muni.
Fun and challenging course, unlike anything else in Houston.
This was my first time playing the Lakes course (I've played the Highlands once as well). They present their own unique set of challenges which makes them both fun to play. The thing I've noticed with both courses is that course knowledge is key if you want to shoot a decent score. There are a lot of blind tee/approach shots. I love courses that are set up like that, but it makes it much more enjoyable if you know what to expect. I can't tell you how many drives I stepped up too, debating on driver and 3-wood, and going 3-wood (only to find out that I could have hit driver). Other than that it really is a fun course to play. You won't find another course like it in the Houston area.
My major peeve with this course is the conditions. For a $50-$80 course, I expect pretty exceptional fairways and greens. The greens had some knot-like weeds in them (not sure what they're officially called) and they were really slow. I don't know why, but I associate fast greens with well conditioned greens. Other than that, the greens are kept in good shape and they had the perfect amount of softness. Probably give them 3.5/5
The fairways were a little wet due to some recent rain, but overall they were nice. Just like the greens though, there were weeds in some areas. There were also some dead patches. 3/5
I think for the price I paid, $30 thanks to golf now, the conditions were actually very good. But I would never pay the full $82. The conditions need to be better in my opinion. But if you want a fun, challenging, and different experience than anywhere else in Houston, then this course is perfect. You also get some amazing views of downtown.
Could be a great course...
This is a really nice course, but on the day I played the Highlands, I was shocked to see all the fire ants. I couldn't park the cart anywhere on the path without being attacked by them. They really need to do a better job of maintaining that aspect. I also believe that the price is way to high for a course that is not really in the city. This is a $50 green fee caliber course that charges much more.
Very nice course
Played the lakes for the first time, my dad and I were very impressed with the course. Also was able to get a great rate.
Unlike any course in Houston
Wildcat is a great course. Highlands has a lot of forced carries and it can be very tough at times. If you keep it in the fairway it's will be a fun day but if you don't it can be miserable. Greens were slow but in great shape overall. No trees and no shade but I really enjoy playing this course.
Good views
A little pricey but well kept and maintained. Great views of downtown, galleria and reliant stadium. Can't wait to play again
