Wildcat Golf Club - The Highlands
About
The Highlands Course is probably the more stimulating of the two tracks at Wildcat GC, offering better views of the city, natural wetlands and grasses, and some intriguing flat sand bunkers. Case must have an affinity for the No. 7, because like the Lakes track, the 421-yard, par 4 hole 7 is the most difficult rated hole. Watch out for the par 5s on this one, three of which play at or above 570 yards from the tips.
Getting there : From downtown take Hwy. 288 south for 5 miles to Loop 610. Head west and find the Fannin exit, where you'll U-turn under 610 and drive east on the access road to Almeda Rd. Turn right on Almeda and the course is 3 miles further.

Wow
I can't believe I haven't played here before. Course was in great shape. Layout is very unique with the elevation change. Only negative was the young man checking us in didn't explain where range was located, how to use the range ball machine, etc. so we had to seek help from other golfers. Grill was excellent. We will make this a regular stop.
Fantastic golf course
One of my favorite courses in the Houston area and is always in good shape. Very unique course for Houston. The driving range could use a little work but overall a great facility.
great track, BUT...
played this course last month and it was in pretty good shape so we set up another tee time. The pro shop failed to let me know that the greens were just sanded when i set up the tee time. the greens were horrible. 3ft puts would jump off line with all the bumps.
Terrific layout!
The most generous fairways in the Houston area, but with multiple forced carries to test golfers. Excellent conditions, except for the greens, which were punched for aeration and sandy. (I maintain that customers should be advised of this ahead of time).
very good
They were aerating the greens but otherwise it was a great challenging course.
Plush Fairways, and rewarding blind shots!!!!
This is my second time playing the lakes course and I absolutely love it. The first time was in a tournament and there was a lot going on so I didn't get to experience the course like I did this go around. Beautiful plush fairways, excruciating roughs, and challenging greens. Initially I was set back by how many blind shots there are, and how confusing the layout of some holes may be. Once I really started taking my time and driving ahead to find my line, I really start hitting some really impressive shots. If you take you time and hit solid shots......this course will reward you with many birdie chances. This is definitely not a course to rush, nor practice on. You better come with you A game.......... But I promise if you do, u will experience some of the best golf Houston public courses has to offer. HIGHLY RECOMENDED
Challenging course
Be sure you play from the tees that would be the most fun. Played the Gold tees on the Lakes, shouldn't have but will know better. Greens were fast, true and receptive.
Course layout is good.
The pace of play was rather slow. Would have been better if they had paired up some twosomes that were in front of our group & behind our group. It was on Friday, July 3rd, so we expected it to be some what crowded and it was. The only real issue that we had was the group in front of us on the 18th hole, decided to have a photo shoot session while we were in the fairway, waiting to hit into the green. We waited for quite a while & then hit into the green. The ball came fairly close to them (we yelled fore but I guess they did not hear us) and they got mad and hit the ball into the driving range. After we got to the green, we found that they had left a Cleveland pitching wedge on the green. It is now somewhere in the driving range with our ball!
The word of mouth lived up to the hype.
Having moved to Houston recently, I've heard nothing but good things about Wildcat. I found an exceptional deal and finally tried it out for myself.
The Lakes course is a ton of fun with lots of risk reward holes. The course was in great shape and the greens were rolling pretty well.
Get out there and give this track a try and see for yourself.
Course is good condition
Played this course on a Tuesday morning. There was barely anyone out there, so I got around very quickly. Played the Lakes course. The course was in good condition. Fairways had grass, rough was challenging, bunkers in great condition, tee boxes fine, and greens had a few weeds but it didn't affect the roll at all. This course is very challenging though with some blind shots and a bunch of water. You have to be very precise with your shots. All in all a good course for the money on a Tuesday morning. I would not recommend this course for beginners though as it is very challenging and there are quite a bit of difficult carries.
Golf
Good course will play again. Make sure you bring extra balls if you slice it hook. Lots of blind shots made for a entertaining round.
Wildcat
The course overall, as of 6.15.15, is in very good shape. The fairways are in immaculate condition for this time of year and the greens are way beyond what can be expected at this price point. Layout features undulation and blind shots which is a nice departure from typical Houston golf. My point of improvement would be the tee boxes - we played from the blacks - and the boxes are not very level. This could be improved upon. Id also like to see a cart girl out there.
Great time
Wife and I played for the first time on a golfnow hot deal. Course in great shape, quick round with nobody ahead of us. I think they just finished a tournament.
Will definitely be back again
Great golf course
Not like any other course I've played in Houston, very challenging
Wildcat is easily a Top 5 Course in Houston
Played on a very hot day. The one thing that makes Wildcat unique is the elevation changes and great views of the 610 west corridor including NRG Stadium. I played the Lakes course last year, but this time I played the Highlands. It was in great condition. The fairways were lush and the greens putted true. I'm not a huge fan of blind shots as there are many throughout both courses. However on severe blind shots, they give you a stake where you can aim which helps. Leave the driver in the bag on the Highlands as you will not be able to play out of the prairie grass that lines both fairways in many cases. Hitting the fairway is key. Played for $35 with a hot deal from GolfNow which felt like stealing. This is a must play and a Top 5 in terms of public courses in the Houston metro area.
Great course
We played 4 days after the huge flood, and the course was still in great shape.
Good value
Water brought into play well. Greens roll well. Bunkers were under repair.
love it
Course was it great shape especially for the amount of rain we have had here lately. I wish it was a little cheaper but you get what you pay for.
Overrated
This is the most overrated course in Houston. This course is pricey for what you get. The course isn't always in good shape. Lots of blind tee shots and approach shots that are unfair. If you're going to spend $90+ on a round, go someplace else. You'll be disappointed spending your money here.
Greens little bare in places
Wort 40$ hot deal. Greens had some bare spots, rolled pretty true where it wasnt bare. Play from gold tees otherwise it will seem kinda short.
