Wildcat Golf Club - The Highlands
About
The Highlands Course is probably the more stimulating of the two tracks at Wildcat GC, offering better views of the city, natural wetlands and grasses, and some intriguing flat sand bunkers. Case must have an affinity for the No. 7, because like the Lakes track, the 421-yard, par 4 hole 7 is the most difficult rated hole. Watch out for the par 5s on this one, three of which play at or above 570 yards from the tips.
Getting there : From downtown take Hwy. 288 south for 5 miles to Loop 610. Head west and find the Fannin exit, where you'll U-turn under 610 and drive east on the access road to Almeda Rd. Turn right on Almeda and the course is 3 miles further.

A Great Course
The Lakes course is a great course with a mixture of seemingly easy holes (beware) and challenging holes around the lakes. Not a course if the thought of water has you quivering on the tee box. This really is a course that will make you pay if you miss the fairways. Only downside to the round was the greens had recently been cored. Pity we wern't aware of this when booking.
Hot Deal Fri.
Great deal using hot deal for a Fri. The course was recently aerated so greens not as good as normal. other than that the course was fine.
Nice course, friendly staff, greens are edgy.
This is for the Lakes Course, not the Highlands. I haven't played that. I got what I was told was a great deal with a Hot Deal from Golf Now. I thought it was good value, but nothing extraordinary, and certainly wouldn't pay their "normal" price. It's a lovely course with elevation variations, lots of variety, great views. The course is in decent condition, except for the greens, the most important part of a golf course. Most had weeds growing in them, and Number 1 has a patch of some kind which is like putting through short rough. As a result putting is inconsistent, the one place you can make up for an odd errant shot. After all the hype, I was somewhat disappointed, but I had good company, the weather was great, and I certainly enjoyed myself. I guess because of their proximity to downtown they can command higher prices, but there are lots of courses around Houston as nice for less. I must say the staff were extremely friendly, which I don't always find when I have a Hot Deal price. The clubhouse and grounds are excellent, but it's a long walk from the parking lot to the course. All in all a good course.
Solid Course
In my opinion Wildcat has 2 well maintained courses. Our (twosome) round was in very humid/hot weather, with greens that looked like they were punched a few weeks ago. Fairways had great roll to them, aprons were damp up front, and rough was knee/waist high (2nd cut). Our round started about 8a and we breezed through the first 10 holes but caught the backend of several groups. The play slowed down and we observed a 5-some as the lead group that slowed the back nine down. Absence of course Marshall on back was obvious = pace of play. Play this course and marvel at NRG/Astrodome and downtown Houston. Enjoy!
Big Expectations, Did Not Disappoint!!
Played here while visiting some family in Houston. Played early on a week day morning for a golf now rate of $45 per person. This was not a hot rate but still well lower than the regular rate. Well worth the money in my mind. Staff was friendly and got us on our way quickly. We played the highlands course and it was great. It's a very challenging course and not well suited for a beginner. Lots of forced carries, starting on the first hole. Not a great course to score on but very rewarding. Fairways were in good shape, lots of thick rough lining the course, waiting to eat up wayward shots. Greens were not super challenging, fairly easy and slow. They had been punched but were growing back in, still affected the putting however. Nice views of downtown and the stadiums, nice scenery. Would recommend to almost anyone to play, however think twice or play up a tee if your not used to long carries. Houston golf at its finest.
Always a great choice inside the city limits
Always a great choice inside the city limits. Top notch practice facilities. Challenging course with several blind shots. Only negative about this round was the aerated greens. Otherwise the course was an excellent shape
Wow
I can't believe I haven't played here before. Course was in great shape. Layout is very unique with the elevation change. Only negative was the young man checking us in didn't explain where range was located, how to use the range ball machine, etc. so we had to seek help from other golfers. Grill was excellent. We will make this a regular stop.
Fantastic golf course
One of my favorite courses in the Houston area and is always in good shape. Very unique course for Houston. The driving range could use a little work but overall a great facility.
great track, BUT...
played this course last month and it was in pretty good shape so we set up another tee time. The pro shop failed to let me know that the greens were just sanded when i set up the tee time. the greens were horrible. 3ft puts would jump off line with all the bumps.
Terrific layout!
The most generous fairways in the Houston area, but with multiple forced carries to test golfers. Excellent conditions, except for the greens, which were punched for aeration and sandy. (I maintain that customers should be advised of this ahead of time).
very good
They were aerating the greens but otherwise it was a great challenging course.
Plush Fairways, and rewarding blind shots!!!!
This is my second time playing the lakes course and I absolutely love it. The first time was in a tournament and there was a lot going on so I didn't get to experience the course like I did this go around. Beautiful plush fairways, excruciating roughs, and challenging greens. Initially I was set back by how many blind shots there are, and how confusing the layout of some holes may be. Once I really started taking my time and driving ahead to find my line, I really start hitting some really impressive shots. If you take you time and hit solid shots......this course will reward you with many birdie chances. This is definitely not a course to rush, nor practice on. You better come with you A game.......... But I promise if you do, u will experience some of the best golf Houston public courses has to offer. HIGHLY RECOMENDED
Challenging course
Be sure you play from the tees that would be the most fun. Played the Gold tees on the Lakes, shouldn't have but will know better. Greens were fast, true and receptive.
Course layout is good.
The pace of play was rather slow. Would have been better if they had paired up some twosomes that were in front of our group & behind our group. It was on Friday, July 3rd, so we expected it to be some what crowded and it was. The only real issue that we had was the group in front of us on the 18th hole, decided to have a photo shoot session while we were in the fairway, waiting to hit into the green. We waited for quite a while & then hit into the green. The ball came fairly close to them (we yelled fore but I guess they did not hear us) and they got mad and hit the ball into the driving range. After we got to the green, we found that they had left a Cleveland pitching wedge on the green. It is now somewhere in the driving range with our ball!
The word of mouth lived up to the hype.
Having moved to Houston recently, I've heard nothing but good things about Wildcat. I found an exceptional deal and finally tried it out for myself.
The Lakes course is a ton of fun with lots of risk reward holes. The course was in great shape and the greens were rolling pretty well.
Get out there and give this track a try and see for yourself.
Course is good condition
Played this course on a Tuesday morning. There was barely anyone out there, so I got around very quickly. Played the Lakes course. The course was in good condition. Fairways had grass, rough was challenging, bunkers in great condition, tee boxes fine, and greens had a few weeds but it didn't affect the roll at all. This course is very challenging though with some blind shots and a bunch of water. You have to be very precise with your shots. All in all a good course for the money on a Tuesday morning. I would not recommend this course for beginners though as it is very challenging and there are quite a bit of difficult carries.
Golf
Good course will play again. Make sure you bring extra balls if you slice it hook. Lots of blind shots made for a entertaining round.
Wildcat
The course overall, as of 6.15.15, is in very good shape. The fairways are in immaculate condition for this time of year and the greens are way beyond what can be expected at this price point. Layout features undulation and blind shots which is a nice departure from typical Houston golf. My point of improvement would be the tee boxes - we played from the blacks - and the boxes are not very level. This could be improved upon. Id also like to see a cart girl out there.
Great time
Wife and I played for the first time on a golfnow hot deal. Course in great shape, quick round with nobody ahead of us. I think they just finished a tournament.
Will definitely be back again
Great golf course
Not like any other course I've played in Houston, very challenging
