Wildcat Golf Club - The Highlands
About
The Highlands Course is probably the more stimulating of the two tracks at Wildcat GC, offering better views of the city, natural wetlands and grasses, and some intriguing flat sand bunkers. Case must have an affinity for the No. 7, because like the Lakes track, the 421-yard, par 4 hole 7 is the most difficult rated hole. Watch out for the par 5s on this one, three of which play at or above 570 yards from the tips.
Getting there : From downtown take Hwy. 288 south for 5 miles to Loop 610. Head west and find the Fannin exit, where you'll U-turn under 610 and drive east on the access road to Almeda Rd. Turn right on Almeda and the course is 3 miles further.

Wildcat is easily a Top 5 Course in Houston
Played on a very hot day. The one thing that makes Wildcat unique is the elevation changes and great views of the 610 west corridor including NRG Stadium. I played the Lakes course last year, but this time I played the Highlands. It was in great condition. The fairways were lush and the greens putted true. I'm not a huge fan of blind shots as there are many throughout both courses. However on severe blind shots, they give you a stake where you can aim which helps. Leave the driver in the bag on the Highlands as you will not be able to play out of the prairie grass that lines both fairways in many cases. Hitting the fairway is key. Played for $35 with a hot deal from GolfNow which felt like stealing. This is a must play and a Top 5 in terms of public courses in the Houston metro area.
Great course
We played 4 days after the huge flood, and the course was still in great shape.
Good value
Water brought into play well. Greens roll well. Bunkers were under repair.
love it
Course was it great shape especially for the amount of rain we have had here lately. I wish it was a little cheaper but you get what you pay for.
Overrated
This is the most overrated course in Houston. This course is pricey for what you get. The course isn't always in good shape. Lots of blind tee shots and approach shots that are unfair. If you're going to spend $90+ on a round, go someplace else. You'll be disappointed spending your money here.
Greens little bare in places
Wort 40$ hot deal. Greens had some bare spots, rolled pretty true where it wasnt bare. Play from gold tees otherwise it will seem kinda short.
Nice lay out
This was my first time playing this course. I rated the food/bev low due to the fact that I didn't eat or drink out here. I was not a fan of a lot of blind tee shots. Also, hole 14, do not hit driver, the yardage book says water won't come into play, but it does. I will be back though. Greens rolling about a 10 on the stimp.
Wildcat - Highlands
Short layout. Well maintained. Some layup tee shots. The pace of play on a midday Sunday was 4 hours 40 minutes. And there were a threesome behind 2 threesomes in front of us. A lot of the rough is in "native" cover, pampas, or sawgrass. Either way, if your ball hits it, it is going to be a lost ball or unplayable. It slows the pace of play. But gives the course and your score a real bite. Given the elevation, elevation changes, and location in South Houston the wind blows a lot.
lakes & highland Apr 2015
Nice course as always. however, the green was not in good shape this month for some reason... the only set back for these 2 courses. hoep they recover soon! Pls keep up the good work Wildcat staff! We appreciate you!
One of the better courses in Houston
Played after big rain day the day before. Course drained well and in great shape. Fun to play and staff very professional and courteous. I highly recommend.
Great Challenging Course in Wind
Challenging course when wind is gusting. Course is in great conditions. Greens and fairways were in good shape compared with other area courses
Hidden gem on south side of town
A trek for the Woodlands folks but definitely will not be the last visit. Great course. Great staff. Will absolutely be back.
This course has great views and very challenging
This course was in great shape and offers many challenging tee shots. Wouldn't reccoment to your less than average golfer as they may find it frustrating. If you want a challenge and great views. This is your course, lots of placement shots and greens are in great shape.
Very nice course
The only thing I have to say about the course; is that they were fertilizing while we was playing and it made it difficult to round your putts.
overall good
it was a good all overall experience there's about 7 holes with a lot of water on it other than that it was a nice course had a few elevated blind shots I liked it
Losing it's touch
Wildcat is losing it's touch when it comes to Staff. Nobody there to pick us up from parking lot like they use to. No drink cart (we played at 9:30). Luckly the course (Highlands) is still in good shape. Excellent greens. Place is starting to look tired.
Holes #15, 16, and 17 are Augusta's Amen Corner!
Great course
This course is a unique course for Houston. Links style course with very challenging tee shots. Outstanding view of the city, NRG stadium, Galleria area. Fast greens.
Excellent Greens
Played on Saturday, teed off at noon, finished right at 4 hours. Weather was 57 to 62 degrees, a slight breeze. Excellent shape for winter conditions, fairways in great shape, greens were smooth and fast. This is an excellent idea to speed up play, the course is now handing out instructions for the holes that have blind shots, giving you the approximate distance of the hazards that you may not see.
Cold cold day!!!
Too cold to be out there. Weatherman totally missed the forcast. Greens were very fast and the flags were unfairly placed on the slope on every single hole. Course is in hood shape.
Great price for the course
Course was in great shape and the price was right.
