Wildcat Golf Club - The Lakes
About
Architect Roy Case created both courses on this new 36-hole, daily-fee facility that is located only 10 minutes from downtown Houston. In addition to the views of the skyline, Case had at his disposal a touch of Hill Country terrain with dramatic elevation changes, as well as the typical Houston- area prairie lands. From this he was able to carve the links-style Highlands Course and the more traditional Lakes Course.
As its name implies, the Lakes Course, which tips out at a par 72 7,016 yards, is loaded with water. The best hole is the 539-yard No. 7, which is listed as the number one handicap. Interestingly, the four easiest holes are the par 3s, which range from 165 to 218 yards.

Great golf course
The golf course is in excillent condition. Staffs are very friendly except for starter. He was pretty rude to us.
Summer morning round
Played the lakes on a friday morning in late June. Course is in good shape not great. Lakes course is challenging layout, with good tee selection. Went off at 7:25 and finished in 3.5 hours.
Course is in excellent condition. Best greens I have played in Houston May and June.
I would recommend the lakes course. Lots of blind shots but very fair.
Course was in outstanding shape!
Best this course has been in in awhile. Greens ran true, fairways were cut down and rough was fair. Played on a Monday morning and completed my round in less than 3 hours bc there was no one out. Great Morning!!
Right tee
Fun to play and challenging if you choose the correct tee.
Course always in great condition with excellent greens.
Yes always windy but that part of the challenge.
Challenging and fun
Play the tips, some blind drives, greens were very good, fairways nice.
Not your typical Houston golf course
Played the Lakes course on Memorial Day. Course was in great shape. The greens rolled well but could stand to be a bit quicker. I was shocked when I drove in and saw the elevation of the course. Definitely different than any other course I've played since moving to Houston last November. Pace was great - no issues whatsoever. My only real complaint would be the grass on a couple of the back tees - not the greatest. Anxious to see what the Highlands course offers being the "premier" course. All in all experience was great.
Painted Greens
The greens were smooth enough, but the green paint was excessive at several holes. It covered our shoes, balls & anything else contacting it. We noticed several large burned grass areas. No drink cart was seen all day. For the positive, we enjoyed the course overall & if the price was lower, we would come back soon.
Would rather play highlands
There's no other golf course like this in the greater Houston area. Built on top of a landfill, Wildcat Lakes provides some great elevation changes that you simply won't find at other courses. Compared to its sister course, Wildcat Highlands, it is just as well-maintained and challenging. That being said, I have no idea why Lakes' tee rates are a premium. Highlands offers spectacular views and has some similar elevation changes.
It's fun to change things up and play Lakes every now and then, but save some money have just as much fun playing Highlands.
Overpriced, underwhelmed
Aside from the greens there is nothing even average about this course.
The rough and fairways are a mixture of Bermuda grass, St Augustine and weeds. There are so many spots in the fairways and around the carpaths that have been worn away and are just dirt. There is zero value in playing this course. I had to ask my playing partner a couple of times if there were bunkers or if in front of the green. There weren’t. It was unmarked ground under repair that was just random sand in front and to the side of the green.
The locker room seems like it is from 1970’s. There was no starter working, nor was there a beverage service on the course. The bunkers this time were actually in decent shape as they are preparing for a tournament. Normally they are washed out and filled with rocks and the edges have no sand.
The other patrons do not know basic rules and/or courtesies of golf. Bunkers are not raked. Divots are not repaired. Carts are driven too close to tee boxes and greens.
Several tee boxes are uneven and chewed up with divots that look like no one tried to repair or replace their divot.
The cost is outrageous for what it is.
If you are looking to play in town walk on at Memorial.
Cloudy but nice
Great value through Golf Now! Nicely discounted rate... Greens were in excellent shape, cut low, smooth and fast.
I love this course but the fairways had bare spots on some holes. This course is usually on point with their course conditions from tee to green so I have no doubt that it will be taken care of immediately. Everything else here is great and I recommend the chicken wings... they’re delicious!
Wet day.
Course was in great shape for this time of year and handled the rain quite well, but it was wet and cart path only. I asked if I could walk and the let me. Got great exercise on this course with the most elevation change I’ve seen in Houston.
Very nice course and I’ll be back soon!
MLK Day at Wildcat Lakes
The weather started out cold but warmed up to a perfect 50/60 degree sunny day. The course is in great winter condition, although a few of the tee boxes - most notably #17 - could use some touching up. The greens were a tad fast, but fair. Fairways were in good shape. There is water on every hole from #7 to #13 that will challenge you, with the #8 'Road Hole' providing the most daunting challenge. The driving range is a little bit of a drive from #1, so plan accordingly. I have played the Wildcat Highlands course before, but this was my first time playing the Lakes course. I really enjoyed Lakes, and I am looking forward to playing it again.
Blind shot surprise
Really challenging course! Lots of fun, great views and some blind shots. Definitely helpful playing a round with someone who’s played it before.. decent facilities also
Don’t be off the fringe
Course was in pretty good shape other than every hole I missed short or around the green was basically like playing out of the sand. Greens were fast (I’m no pro, but would say a 12 and a partner agreed). Pin placement was challenging on most holes as well. Overall a good to great course I’d love to play in normal Houston spring/summer conditions, instead of December.
