Wildcat Golf Club - The Lakes
About
Architect Roy Case created both courses on this new 36-hole, daily-fee facility that is located only 10 minutes from downtown Houston. In addition to the views of the skyline, Case had at his disposal a touch of Hill Country terrain with dramatic elevation changes, as well as the typical Houston- area prairie lands. From this he was able to carve the links-style Highlands Course and the more traditional Lakes Course.
As its name implies, the Lakes Course, which tips out at a par 72 7,016 yards, is loaded with water. The best hole is the 539-yard No. 7, which is listed as the number one handicap. Interestingly, the four easiest holes are the par 3s, which range from 165 to 218 yards.

My first round
Very challenging course would definitely play again due to the change in elevation and the condition of the greens !!
Wild cat good course and staff friendly.
Disappointed with golfnow as they refused to reimburse me for one golfer I️ paid for 4 golfers but one was unable to play as he was admitted to the hospital with an emergency. Paid for four golfers but only 3 able to play.Golfnow would not reimburse me for one golfer.
Not Worth the Money
This course is toward the high end of golf in the area, but you get very little other than a well-kept course. The course is one of the more unique in the area, and it was in good shape, but I expected more of the amenities. The golf cart does not have GPS, nor was it stocked with towels, waters or tees - just a plain cart. We did not see a beverage/snack cart at all. I would not play here at full price.
Great course. Course in great shape. Got to pay attention to course diagram .some holes you need to lay up.
Up for a Challenge?
This course will really test your nerves, thinking, concentration, and shotmaking ability. There are blind shots, intimidating water holes, sand bunkers to clear, scrub, and very challenging greens. There is damage in a few areas here but I only had to deal with it once. This is a fun course!
Excellent condition right after hurricane
Just a bit slow...a lot of blind shots. The pace of play is pretty much slow as the group in front spent so much time searching for the balls.
Enjoyed the course despite the hot wet weather. Did not enjoy the interaction with the club house staff; rude.
Blind shot
Course was in good shape. Did have more than usual maintenance on course that did not seem to care if they bothered you. Sand traps were not in best shape. Other than those 2 minor issues, round was great.
Greens were just sanded and punched
Wish the pro shop would have let us know the greens had just been punched and sanded.
We apologize for this, but we are doing a 40-50% discount on the green fees as well as using the aerification icon online when booking to hopefully give golfers fair notice.
Please try us again in a week or so as the Lakes Course will be back to great shape! Thanks!
Challenging
This course is close to my office and home. I love coming here to hit balls and work on my game. The wind can be challenging sometimes because some holes sit up on the hill out there. A lot of forced carries and water as well.
The conditions out there are great and #18 is probably my favorite hole out there.
Great Place to Play
The course was in fantastic shape, the weather was great and the pace of play was phenomenal. This really is a great place to play staying within the Sam Houston Loop. We played the Lakes which is easier than the Highlands but still offers a great challenge. Definitely will continue to play here and recommend to others.
The Lakes is one of the most entertaining course I've played in Houston
Played for the first time the course; we were matched with a two-some lf young kids with mid-10's handicap, playing the course for the first time as well; it was a fun and challing outting for all of us; the Green Fee is not cheap, but after playing the course, I'd say is a fair price; Golf Course layout has an extraordinary variety, with its blind shots, dog legs, some Par-5's made of "small keys", long and short Par-4's, immaculate greens, will demand every shot and club in your bag; scenery around the course is not beautiful, but the course itself demands so much of your attention that it does not matter; if you are looking for a demanding, well-maintained golf course that will challenge you, instead of a scenic walk in a park.., this may be what you are looking for in the Houston-area.
Nice Course
First time playing this course. It was a nice course. Staff was friendly as well.
Played the Lakes Course for the first time. Overall perhaps the best public course in the Houston area. A nice layout in good condition for the time of year. Staff was nice. The main issue for the first time player are the numerous blind shots and you have no idea where to hit it or how far. Sometimes even finding the green from the fairway is an issue. We would return for the value and this issue would not be a problem. Do not know why the course does not help more with directions and tee shot carry requirements.

Thank you for coming out to the course. We feel our course conditions provide great value in this area especially during the week. We do include range balls as well on our weekend rates for additional value. We appreciate your comments and review, but we would stack our amenities/course conditions with any other public courses in this area. Hope you will give us another chance. Thanks.
