Victoria Hills Golf Club located in Deland has jaw-dropping beauty. Golfers will appreciate Roland Garl's vigorous bunkering, which oscillates between the expansive and the intricate, depending on the hole. Victoria Hills could easily be called "The State of Florida's Garden of Golf,"- inland settings such as this are virtually unprecedented in this state. Yet while the splendor and natural beauty of the property are notable, this is not simply eye candy and lazy golf. Victoria Hills, as one player put it, "is a blast to play". In any evaluation, it's difficult to imagine how a golfer would not rate a round here as one of their most enjoyable in Florida.

Getting better but still needs work
Better than a month ago but still in pretty bad shape. No visible maintenance going on other than guys sitting in the shade. Tee boxes overgrown and if you hit it slightly off the fairways you will more than likely lose your ball. Best drive of the day on 17 down the middle only to end up in deep weeds. See attached picture. No excuse for that and still charging premium rates. Again getting better but still a long way to go.

Great Comeback from April
Greens in April were horrible. Management has done something to make the greens put truer than ever. I only used to play Eagle Dunes when I wanted true puts, but now Victoria Hills Greens are so much better than the last 3-4 years. Congrats to management staff for improving the course from what was a really rough situation in April of this year. Likely to have dormant August/September grass but looking forward to playing again in the fall.

Fun and Challenging Course
Greens were mostly in good condition. The rough could stand to be mowed down a bit. Otherwise, a great day and challenging course.

Excellent place to place
Everything was great. It’s a course fill with everything challenging (water, sand , hills and thick rough!!

Improving
Greens and fairways were much improved since I last played here 4 weeks ago. Still some weeds and bad spots though. A couple bad tee boxes (#10!). A missed fairway or green is a likely lost ball as the rough is about a foot high. Great layout and otherwise fun course.

Course Conditions Were Qustionable
Greens were above average, but tee boxes were awful---no grass and what was there were lots of weeds. And it appeared no one is cutting off the fairways. The gorse in the rough reminded me of Scotland. I have not played there since April 5th, and I have NEVER seen the course in such disrepair.

Greens in OK shape. Smart spots on the course I’ve been spotty. All in all with a little adjustment here you can play quite well there.

Great lay out
Great lay out! Area between holes need attention ie, groundskeeping. Greens had been aerated recently and were still a little bumpy otherwise course was a great change from the flat courses around Florida.
Jury is still out
Play here probably 2 to 3 times a month, only option in DeLand. The greens were in much better shape. Tee boxes had a few: 1, 10 & 11 that were not in great shape (always bad from memory) but the others were good. Fairways were good. Rough was a mile high, first I have ever seen it that high. Practice putting green had a large dead spot. Hope they can fix the trouble spots and get the rough maintained. Price would be acceptable if those things were taken care of — DeBary G&C is the better option at the moment.

Honestly, the course needs a lot of work. Nowhere near the conditions it had a few years back. Greens were slow, patchy and not consistent, with many having crab grass growing.

Beautiful Course
Victoria has been in beautiful condition. The fairways are well groomed the greens are in good condition.
The staff is the absolute best, they’re all very friendly and welcoming. If you want to golf a well laid out course you need to golf Victoria. Prices are so very reasonable. This our favorite local course to golf.

Needs Grooming
This is the first time I have ever played this course in such miserable condition. The golf course needs to be groomed from tee boxes, to fairways, to the grass around the greens. I don't know what is happening to Victoria Hills and the maintenance of this course but it can't afford to continue in this direction. What was once one of my favorite places to play is now bordering on being completely out of rotation. Please groom this golf course...

Working on it but a LONG way to go!
Obvious that there is NOWHERE near enough money being spent on maintenance. Working on it is all you’ll hear. Without getting into specifics cause it all needs help. There’s nothing good to report here. From tee to green it’s gotten away from them. Will take a few years and a ton of cash to get it back. It’s a shame. Ron Garl did a great job here. Years ago. It’s a great layout. Always has been, but not a playable layout anymore. Shame. Not sure how many times I can say that. But add this course to the list of has beens north of Orlando. Black Bear…getting better. Slowly. Red Tail….. long long way to go. Timaquan…….nowhere near what it used to be. And so on.
2-1/2 Stars is the best it’s going to be for the next 2-3 years. Shame!
Completely agree with you. However. part of the problem is that stupid decisions are being made by the GM, for instance the greens were punched 7 weeks ago, the wrong sand was used and not enough (GM decision) so now 7 weeks later the greens are still bad. They now need to be rolled, will the GM rent the Roller., doubt it. The second cut of rough is knee high. So sad!
Redtail and black bear are not in bad shape whatsoever. These are public courses that get a ton of play. I agree with Timacuan and Victoria Hills. Redtail and black bear are both in good shape…
