Awful Service
I played on this course a few weeks ago on a Saturday. I arrived first thing in the morning and there were no range balls available. Told it was an unreliable worker issue. Seems ridiculous for a golf course not to have range balls to warm up, but whatever.
I have late morning tee time today. There are two ranges on the way to the course for me so I call ahead earlier in the morning to see if they have range balls. The girl in the club house says they have range balls. Her tone is, “that is a stupid question to ask a golf club, are you going to ask if we have holes next,” but I do not mind because maybe she was not part of the previous incompetence.
I arrive and the same girl tells me there are no range balls. I voice my displeasure with the situation and told how it is not the girl’s fault because the guy who is supposed to pick up range balls did not show up. There is no acceptance by the facility for their poor service.
As usual the course is overcrowded, so play is slow. Maintenance of course is better than usual, but still mediocre. This is typical for most courses in Florida this time of the year.
I would recommend you spend your money at a course where good service matters.
Course has gone down hill
If you can play this course for $30 or less it’s maybe worth it. But this course is never in good condition anymore and is priced way too high. It’s a shame, this course used to be one of the best in the area.
Getting better
Played the Lakes course this week and Forrest last week. The Lakes is much improved from most recent condition (through Spring of ‘24). I think the drought hammered this course. Fairways much improved with some having a way to go. Greens very good in places with some serious bad spots remaining in others. Clearly they’re trying. Tee boxes? From OK to not so good. For me that’s the last but, probably easiest place to fine tune. Forrest better but now not by as much. Still have many areas to improve. Back 9 the best in layout and condition.
Value? Full standard price…no value at all. $40 and below would be fair for the moment. If they continue to improve a higher price would be expected. Both course are good layouts. Some challenging holes for high handicappers. Overall challenging but fair.
Deplorable greens
I have played The Eagles for 7 yrs and have typically enjoyed it very much. However the last 2 times I have played their Lakes course, the greens were deplorable! Much of the green has no grass and it appears they are doing little to repair them. Several members of my 8some have said they will never play it again.
Price to value
I’ve played the forest course previously and really enjoyed it. I really hyped it up to my group. We got there and the pace was pretty good. Weather was perfect. A ton of greens were in really bad shape. We talked to a manager and he said they will have a new irrigation system in a few weeks but every course is dry. I played a different course the day before and they had a much better green setup. The course itself was ok. The price per round was very high compared to the quality of the course. If I had to compare courses, it felt more like a $35 per person course but we paid $74pp. I might go back to play the forest course again but I wouldn’t do it for the lakes.
Greens in disarray on the Lakes course
I'm no stranger to playing the Eagles but I usually play the Forest course. First time playing the Lakes course in over a year and the greens are a mess. They were longer which is fine but there were TONS of dead spots and areas where grass was missing. I felt like I was putting through an unpredictable minefield and my score suffered for it. The ball would bounce every which way as it passed over the sand, dirt, and dead grass and all of the bumps that came with them.
Otherwise, the course is still fun and a good tract with lots of opportunities to make up for strokes lost on the greens in their current condition
Greens were TERRIBLE
Have played here many times in the past and generally like the course. However, this time the greens were in terrible condition. Where there was grass, it was way overgrown and spongy. But there were many greens with lots of dead spots, dirt patches, and sand. Won't be playing here again until conditions improve.
By far the worst course (conditions wise) in Tampa currently. As someone who has lived in Tampa my whole life it’s pretty outrageous they’re still charging over $40 to play on this course. 10/18 greens were basically under repair and unplayable. If you complained about the course before it’s prolly worse than you remember it.
The staff is great and the clubhouse is awesome. Urgent changes needed on the course .
Had a group of 16 guys go out there and every person said the same thing.
Not worth the money
Took my dad to play the Lake course today. We played the Forest course yesterday. I’ve got to say how terrible the greens were on the front nine. To charge someone $42 per 9 holes to play a course in this crappy shape is a rip off. There was no option to putt for any chance of a good score. 3 of 9 holes were somewhat puttable if you were close to the flag. Extremely disappointed in the staff for not tell me in the clubhouse how bad it was. I would have just played the Forest course instead. To tell you how bad it was, we played 8 holes and no one was on the course behind us. I guess they knew the conditions of the greens. A decision to close the Lakes should be considered to fix all the greens. Not try to patch them. I’m the mean time lower the price if you put people on the Lakes.
Play anywhere else!
14 of 18 greens were basically a patchwork of bad repairs and bare dirt. We did not have one putt rolled true.
The fairways are ok, but the tee boxes and bunkers were terrible. We paid $80 for a weekend morning and it was not worth $20. The course should be closed until the greens are playable. It’s a disgrace to charge what they are for a course in need of serious repair.
Greens are in shambles.
I love this course and play probably 20x a year here. Currently the greens are rougher than I've ever seen. No mention of this when booking or paying. I'm not sure if the forest side is any better right now. As soon as the get the greens and tees up to snuff it will be well worth the money again. No sign of bev cart the entire round either.
Great conditions(Once upon a time in the not so distant past)
No more! Over half of the greens appear to have been lost to what I assume to be disease. Fairways are sparse & weedy. I have greatly enjoyed playing this course for many years & was greatly disappointed today.
Tee Box or Sand Trap…can’t tell the difference.
The good: we as a 2-some teed off on-time at 8:15a and finished in 4:10 (if you’ve played here, you know this is a miracle). Props to the 3-some in front of us that played quick. Always a fun track/layout.
The bad: the course was in ROUGH shape. 50% of the greens were basically dirt/mud or fresh sod patchworks (which we conveniently weren’t told about until after we checked in and paid), putting was nearly impossible. And 75% of the tee boxes were basically dirt/sand with no grass at all. Absolutely unacceptable.
The fact they have the nerve to charge $75/round for that is a travesty. We had played there just over a month ago and it wasn’t nearly this bad. Won’t be going back until conditions improve.
very poor conditions, borderline unplayable from the tee boxes to the greens
This course should be closed for renovation....AVOID
Conditions here are sad at best. 4 or 5 greens were simply not playable. Sad to see what this owner and manager has done to this once nice course.
Fun Layout, Poor Conditions
They’re working to regrow sections of the greens, but roughly a third of the greens are unplayable at this point. A few of the tee boxes were mostly sand, which also took away from the experience. A few groups turned around on the front nine to go play the Forest course due to the condition of the greens on the Lakes course.
