Tarpon Woods Golf Club
About
Named after the creek that borders it, Tarpon Woods Golf Club is home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, alligators, turkeys, coyotes, and otters. The layout is not the Tampa Bay area's most challenging but it is one of the most scenic. Formerly Brooker Creek Golf Club, the club changed management and made several improvements to the bunkers, tee boxes, and greens in 2009. It has been a local favorite for more than 30 years. Overall the golf course is not particularly long but the front nine plays longer than the back. Each nine offers a unique set of challenges. The third hole is the longest and toughest with water that runs down the left side. There is also water on both sides of the approach to the green.

Horrible condition
First time going to this course, Tarpon Woods the greens are not taking care of the fairways are not taking care of. Everything is just un taken care of because of a hurricane, but then I end up finding out that I was playing with this couple husband and Wife the guy got a. A peanut butter and jelly crest added the soda machine. They have no snack bar or nothing for anyone to get any drinks or nothing. I’d be afraid to get stuff there. the practice putting greens were horrible and they’re the same as throughout the whole course. I have some photos of what you are hitting out of the fairways are not taken care of. There’s no maintenance. The bathrooms are horrible. Just everything about it was horrible. It’s not been taken care of since the hurricane.
Not as advertised
We were charged more at the course than GolfNow quoted. They had no explanation or itemized receipt. The course was super dry -- mostly sand
Not as bad as the reviews say
I played this course on a cold windy day, and me and my friends had a blast! A twosome went out before us, and that was the last time we saw anyone on the course. We are beginner golfers, so playing this course was a blast. Will be returning often! Most of the greens were fine, a couple were in rough shape, and there were still a few downed trees from the hurricanes last year. The staff were friendly.
If you are expecting PGA level maintenance, you will be disappointed, if you are a beginner golfer like me who mostly plays executive and par 3 courses, this is a blast. Holes didn’t have houses too close to the course, so no houses were hit by errant shots.
We also saw a doe and her baby deer, which was really cool, and several other deer on the course. We will be playing this in our monthly rotation.
Over seeding
The greens are quite long (the grass) but the course is playable and nd I think that they are making improvements
Poor condition
I knew going in that there was gonna be something’s wrong with course just because of price. Whole facility is run down, Pro shop is small with not much to offer. Course is not maintained well, I know they just overseeded but greens were still bare, fairways browned out and tee boxes poor. It served the purpose I needed, to help my son, who is a beginner hit balls and not be rushed. Would not recommend to play and staff was a little arrogant
The need to close this course
This course is horrible. The worse course I have ever seen in my life. The greens are in horrible conditions. It is impossible to putt
Corn field
The worst course I’ve played. Do not golf here. Not even a course. Can’t put on mud. Can’t find your falls in the hay fields. Seriously the course wasn’t cut for weeks.
Horrible
Terrible condition tall grass and basically just dirt hills for greens complete waste of money, I don’t know what they are waiting on but obviously this coarse is going out of business.
Don’t go unless you want weeds and sand on the green/ unkept fairways
Worst course ever
I’ve grown up in the area my whole life. Have no played here in 8-9 years. It was ok then. Horrible now. Fairways look like a hoarders back yard. Greens were worse
Needs a complete renovation
Overall would rate 1/5. The staff was great. Very kind and provided ice on a hot day. The 1/5 comes from the course alone. Every hole is practically unplayable. Each green has about 6 inches around the cup to putt other than that it is all rough dirt and sand even in the fairways. Looks like they were heavily impacted from the storm so it definitely needs some help. If this course gets a lot of TLC it will be a very friendly and nice course.
Avoid at all costs
With conditions that bad, if you told me to play this course again I’d be more inclined to go play in traffic on US 19. The only saving grace is you have the course to yourself and the price is reasonable. Besides that this course has almost completely defeated my love for this sport.
Greens need attended
There is no grass on the greens except for two holes. Some t type of fungus has destroyed the grass on the greens
Disappointed
Pulled up to an outdated clubhouse. There we 8 cars in the parking lot including mine. (Bad sign) I should have known what the day would be like from the looks of the grounds. Went in and everyone was kind. Nice Once I the course I quickly knew this was a bad choice. The course is severely overgrown. The tee boxes are in bad shape to say it nicely. Bare patches and a multitude of weeds. The rough is not playable as it it so overgrown. The greens are non existent. This course has been abandoned. So sad to see.
Tarpon woods
The course was in really bad shape and so is the clubhouse. It is a shame because I like the layout, and it is very close to my house. I hate leaving negative reviews, but I want to be honest here.
Thank you for your feedback. We truly understand your concerns and want you to know that we're aware of the current condition of the greens. We've been actively working to improve the course — the greens were recently scraped, and new seed has been spread as part of our ongoing maintenance efforts.
During this time, we've kept our rates as low as possible to reflect the work in progress, and we appreciate your patience as we continue these improvements. In the meantime, the course remains a great spot to get in some practice swings and enjoy the surrounding wildlife.
We suffered significant damage from the hurricanes and have been trying to improve the clubhouse since but it is a slow process.
We hope you'll consider giving us another chance soon — we're committed to making the course better for everyone.
