Shortage of golf carts on Presidents Day
Couldn’t believe course had a shortage of golf carts on Presidents Day on top of a fully booked schedule!
Course layout was tough and unique and asked you to play so many different shots. The greens were insanely slow which was disappointing, and my only other complains was the golf carts. We would’ve been better off walking with how slow they were. Definitely would love to come back in the summer and see if the greens were a quicker
Needs Grass & better sand
Tee boxes need grass, teeing up in dirt!! I know that grass is dormant this time of year but these tee boxes don't have enough grass to grow even in warm weather. Also the sand is like ground up clay and full of small rocks. Fairways & greens were in good shape.
Winter conditions
Greens were in good shape. Fairways are still dormant, of course. Bunkers are never raked here for some reason, which is why I gave 3 stars.
Good Course
Great place to play. Need to upgrade carts, slowest ever.
A few poorly designed holes mar an otherwise enjoyable course
The Preserve is like a lot of area courses built in subdivisions in that long distances from green to tee make it inhospitable to walkers. That's one drawback. The other is that some of the holes border on unfair. I'm thinking of three holes on the back side, where poorly placed waste areas create overlong forced carries, almost always hitting off a difficult downhill lie. I'm talking about hole 10 and the two par 5s. Hole 2 is borderline; again, a long forced carry to a tight target will challenge most golfers.
The rest of the course is just fine. Conditions are usually good, although the course has some drainage issues and should be avoided during wet months. The staff is friendly and the clubhouse sufficient. The starters are generally friendly and helpful.
I enjoy the course's convenience to Chapel Hill and its occasional bargain rates on GolfNow. It's never my first or second choice but I generally enjoy playing here.
Challenging Course
Wet conditions made this course all the more challenging. Plenty of elevation changes and some design elements are unnecessary (like the false front to the 415 yd 8th hole). Would play it again in better weather but wouldn't go out of my way. Other nearby courses are better options.
Thanksgiving round 2021
My cart lost its brake so detail to parking was imperative to not have it free fall all the hills on the course..
Great Value for Orange County
From the time you step out of the car, the staff greets you with a smile. The practice facilities are nice (putting green, range and sand bunker area). It appeared that they painted the greens, as there was always a green streak across my ball when it landed. The condition of the fairways was nice and dry allowing the tee shots to run for extra yardage. The rough was nice and thick.
