The Shark's turned in what's widely regarded as the second-toughest course at PGA WEST - Greg Norman Course in La Quinta.

No small feat considering the developers of the neighboring TPC Stadium ordered Pete Dye to make it, "the hardest damn golf course in the world."

"There's a difference," said Jack Guevera, a golfer who's played both. "You might think you have it easy if you play the Norman after the Stadium .... But probably not."

Here's the difference: Dye tries to kill you at TPC Stadium. Norman only wants to beat you to a pulp.

Not that pummeling does not have its highlights. Norman's 216-yard, par-3 13th is the kind of hole that seizes your attention and lingers in memory after the round.

What little fairway there is curves around toward a man-made lake. It is also tilted down on a sharp angle to the water, giving the golfer the effect of hitting along a ledge.

Each shot is a tap dance here. You could not even get odds in Vegas on your chances of avoiding all of the deep, slanted bunkers that squeeze the mini fairway even tighter.

"Greg Norman wants you to choke," TravelGolf.com West Coast Bureau Chief Chris Baldwin said. "The supremely-talented, enthrallingly-entertaining golfer cursed to be forever remembered for his excruciating collapses wants the average hacker to experience just a taste of this misery."

A must play when visiting PGA WEST.

If you visit PGA WEST make sure to play the Greg Norman course. Great desert golf course, Tee to green the course was in excellent condition. All the traps had new sand that had not settled, but were still very playable. The staff from the proshop to the restaurant were excellent. Looking forward to my next visit.

Nice Course Greens Hard

Nice course recently redone. Greens hard and inconsistent since new. Anything of fairway is sand/gravel. Not sure the plan but hopefully it will grow in as rough that u can hit out of.

Nice Palm Springs Course

Not to difficult for a PGA West course. Everything was good just remember to hit every approach shot short. Greens are very difficult to hold. Pitch marks are non existent. Love to play this course once the greens get broken in....... However, don't miss this course!

Another PGA West course checked off the list

Try to play a different PGA West course whenever I get the chance (Mountain course is the last). Overall decent conditions due to some recent redesign/clean up to course. Good greens/fairways with some bare spots and carpet-y grass left to grow so less roll. Great potential when pristine. Same cannot be said of staff members: cart persons just standing around (could have come out and got the bags just steps away from the parking lot); check in person not personable (stated carts need to be back by 5 pm; tee time 12:36); starter was very grumpy (I asked for an extra score card for souvenir or if lost card during the round/started stated there’s already one on the cart/starter did not seem to want to be bothered or offer any advise for first timers). Starter seem to allow a few single/ 2somes to go out creating some bag log in pace of play. Did not feel welcomed! First impressions go a long way.

Definitely worth the money

Played four times while out in the Palm Springs area and PGA West Greg Norman course was the best. The fairways were green and the greens were in outstanding shape for the time of the year. We found the layout to be challenging and fun. The pro shop staff were very friendly and the starter, Coop, was extremely helpful, taking the time to explain the course for us first-timers. Definitely put this course on the list to play again.

New Greens and Bunkers

We played this course for the first time in over a year. They cleaned up a lot of the brush and put new sand in the bunkers and redid the greens. Sand in the bunkers is some of the best I've played from in a while. New greens however were well, new greens. Very hard but they did hold better than I anticipated. Biggest issue I had was the roll. Not complaining, they are what they are, new greens. Overall, if you've played this course before, you might not noticed a lot of difference in the layout, just easier to get around and less overgrown. Overall, very nice course.

Good course

New greens. Probably the most playable of all 5 of the public PGA West courses. Nice layout. Not overwhelming. Ponds have 1lb bass cruising around. Bring fishing pole. Staff is super friendly. I guess this is the least popular course since it’s all by itself, but this is the course I’d play daily.

The snowbirds have flown home and the desert is ours. The course was perfect and am grateful to have reasonable rates and fast pace of play for a championship course.

Nice but slow

The course is in very good condition but the bunkers not so good. We were told they are completely redoing the course in a couple of months. Our issue was the 4 3/4 hour round and not a ranger in site. We will not play here again when there are so many other exceptional courses nearby.
