Chilly Sunday with the Deer Family
Clear skies, but chilly start at 0822 with no sun. Warmed up nicely once the sun appeared over the hills. Course was a bit wet, but not bad. Love playing this course because of the beautiful canyon setting, deer grazing and the ability to have to play your scoring irons well. I never bring a driver. Don't need it. Even on the Par 4s. Hit Ping 4 Crossover (22 degree) off the tees or turf. Mid-iron close to the green then wedge it and putt. You can play this course with 4-5 clubs total, but the greenside bunkers and creeks will keep you honest. Restaurant is delicious for breakfast and the staff are very friendly from valet to Pro Shop to restaurant. One of my favorite 9-hole courses. Highly recommend it.
Cracking can yon course
This is a lovely 9 hole course nestled along a canyon in South Laguna Beach. It really is a diamond course in a rough canyon setting. From the wonderfully appointed restaurant with helpful staff to the quality of the fairways and greens, this really is a cracking course. It's not the hardest course I've played but you do have to stay on the fairways or light rough, because anything else will have you pulling another ball out of your bag. Excellent use of the creek means that water comes into play in nearly all of the holes: and keep an eye out for the sizable carp (or perhaps catfish?) that can easily be seen whilst crossing over the bridges. The greens are in excellent condition as are the fairways.Push carts are available for hire, apparently there are a couple of electric carts but you really don't need them, it's a flat course with the only inclines being easily reached through wide steps leading up to some of the tees.
Being completely honest, the only thing I could even slightly ding on the course on is that the flagpoles have what appears to be polystyrene "fillers" that sit in the mouth of the hole: I've never seen these before and I'm sure they have some functional use, but what appears to happen is that as the pin is pulled out of the hole, these fillers (being snug with the inside edge of the hole) lift up the grass on the edge of the cup: leading to a slight ridge. Any hesitant ball that would've normally crept in for that birdie, now stops on the edge requiring a tap in for par. It's only a small ding, not worthy of a full star which is why I still rate this course as 5-stars.
The restaurant has extremely good food which is priced extremely fairly and is quite sizable too.
I'd never played Ben Brown before, but it certainly won't be my last time visiting.
Perfect 9.
Best 9 in OC. Great condition and staff. Will come back. Awesome pizza at outdoor snackbar! Fun course.
Best OC 9 holes!
It’s walking only during Covid but not bad at all. Perfect fairways and greens. Tee shots from blue tee made it Challenging. Greens are not too challenging. Pace was great. No rush. Jack at pro shop was very friendly. Gent at outdoor snack bar very friendly as well. Valet crew were courteous. Wife and I here for first time and will be back. If u are a slicer, better get it fix b4 playing here.
Beautiful and well maintained course. Accuracy is more important than distance on this course. Enjoyed the excellent outdoor dining ( had the Italian sandwich and margherita pizza) overlooking the first hole at Ben’s Pantry. BBC
Fantastic golf course. Will definitely player there again.
THE BEST
The Ranch is the best. Food and drink afterwards are phenomenal as well. Always a pleasure.
Best 9 hole in south OC
Play early weekday and you’ll probably finish within hour. Pretty view, then had nice breakfast at restaurant onsite.
Incredible restaurant with a Sub-par course
The course layout is so close together, we almost got hit by a golf ball on 4 separate occasions within 3 ft each time! Twice! On the first hole, in fact, and only once did our group hear anyone yell FOUR.
Play this course at you own risk, or at least if your health insurance is up to date.
At $48 for 9 holes (walking) it’s not cheap either, there are far better courses nearby with a much better layout and often more scenic layouts to play on (and often much more reasonable rates), this is a course that I would skip unless you have the patience and health benefits to play “vacation golf” along with the resort guests.
Ben Brown Golf
It is a beautiful course and the staff is great. We had a great time playing and enjoying the course
Wow
Soft greens, ball checks and backspins. Fast green too. Tee boxes a little beat up. Fairways very clean. Sand amazing like sugar (and they recycle glass bottles to refill the sand traps!) 2 pm and after great rates.
