Not worth the money
We paid $44 EACH to play 9 holes AND WE WALKED! Course is not even close to worth that. Plus, the starter was a bit rude. We were playing with a friend who only plays 2 or 3 times per year, and he shanked his first tee shot. He starts to tee up another ball when the starter says "people waiting behind you. No mulligans." Really dude? We had just waited 10 minutes for the group in front of us to clear and hitting one single ball will not slow play whatsoever. Now the course. The greens were quite slow and very flat, making the course easy. The fairways needed a cut, all kinds of different grass out there. The bunkers are in poor shape, and some are made out of recycled glass, which is almost a completely different surface even though they are supposed to be bunkers. Plus the divot mix is also made of recycled glass, and it seemed like the divot had a hard time growing back with glass rather than sand or dirt. Pace of play was also terrible. 2:30 minutes for a par 32. Play a real course like Arroyo Trabuco, Tijeras Creek, or Monarch Beach if your willing to pay a bit.
Phenomenal 9 Hole Course
Highly recommend this track. Played it while on Spring Break in Newport Beach. Nice break from the $200 to $300 rounds at Pelican Hill and the Monarch. Secluded course in very good shape. Easy to walk (and I hate walking). Plenty of Driver holes - not a Par 3 only course. Some easy holes, some tough ones. Very relaxed vibe. Golf barefoot if you want. Patio and restaurant are top notch. Came back one afternoon just to have a cocktail and soak up the atmosphere. Definitely playing this track again.
Gem of a short course
What a gem. This is a 9 hole short par 3/par 4 course located at The Ranch at Laguna Beach. No need to use a cart, rather try a pull cart and take a nice stroll through this canyon course. Greens and fairways in great shape, large landing areas. Course can get crowded so expect a slow pace of play. Perfect for beginner golfers and letting the significant other tag along. Paid 32$ for a twilight round which I'd call a good deal in Orange County. Beautiful patio area to enjoy cocktails before/after the round. Love this course and resort.
Nine holes hidden in the canyons of Laguna Beach
Chances are you've never heard of this course because it is hidden in plain sight. This amazing little gem is located right off of the Pacific Coast Highway - and right across from a beautiful oceanfront beach - but you can't see it.
All nine holes are tucked into the surrounding canyons. These imposing walls keep the noise of the highway and the tourists away. It's an especially secluded, peaceful and mesmerizing place at daybreak or twilight.
The par-32 layout - formerly the Aliso Creek Golf Course - is short with the 318-yard fifth hole the longest of the five par 4s. Thankfully none of the holes play awkward or feel shoehorned in. It's a shot-maker's course with several heroic approaches taking on the Aliso Creek (holes 1-6-8). Spoiled golfers won't always appreciate the course because it is narrow in spots and conditioning can be suspect, but for the rest of us, a round is fast, fun, walkable and affordable - a winning combination.
