Cowdenbeath Golf Club
About
If you're looking for stately history and lore in your Scottish golf, don't look at Cowdenbeath Golf Club. Built in 1988, it certainly doesn't have the seniority of St. Andrews, but it makes up what it lacks in gravitas with character and charm.
Located six miles east of Denfermline, Cowdenbeath Golf Club was built as a nine-hole course on the old Dora Coral mine site (the golf course is still commonly known as "Dora"). Cowdenbeath was ready for play in 1991 and extended to 18 holes in 1996. The length is now 6,207 yards.
It's a parkland layout with, what its Web site describes as, "gentle undulations and tree-lined fairways." The site also boasts that Cowdenbeath is a "challenge for both high and low handicappers."
The golf course features only three par 3s, but also only one par 5, No. 17, a 526-yard beast. The longest par 4 is No. 8 at 428 yards.
The clubhouse at Cowdenbeath Golf Club opened in 1998.

Good greens
Nice layout, wide fairways and big greens
Great value for money
Staff friendly
Enjoyable parkland course in good condition
Played with a friend in a 2 ball on a Sunday and was not held up once even though course was full, very good pace of play.
Greens were fast, rolled true and we’re very large putting surface was forgiving for inaccurate approach shots.
Starter was friendly and knew course layout advising of the few walks between tees (something that I had been missed by starters at other courses).
Overall a very pleasant course I will look forward to playing again.
If I’m paying 16 pound for a round and nobody is there to check I would hope that scorecards would at least be available near the clubhouse
First time I've played it in 30 years, absolutely brilliant test of golf, huge greens with subtle breaks, £16 I'll be back soon,
Challenging course
Great course. Well done to the Fife Golf Trust for keeping the course in good condition.
Great course
I am a very average golfer and the course was great. Well maintained and enough room to on the fairway to keep track of the odd Alice here and there
Good to play again after a few years away!
After a late call-off at the club where I'm a member, by one of my usual golfing buddie's and another one who couldn't make the tee time due to being offered hospitality at his football teams home match, I decided to get a round it at one of my other more local courses and headed to Dora, Cowdenbeath! Although we'd had a lot of rain in the past week, the course, overall, was in good condition, although most holes were playing winter greens, although there were about 4-5 that were on full greens. Clear sunny day, although a bit chilly, (well it was the start of March!).
Friendly welcome at the starter's booth, and although there were a few two and 3 balls waiting I headed out bang on time.
Haven't played the course in almost 10 years, but hasn't changed much, but first time on winter greens. Holes overall were in good conditions, but some were sodden. Only criticism would be the 4th hole, which was a bit of a joke as I could have probably putted the hole as was around 60 - 70 yards in length and downhill.
Other than that, (and the 3 jokers who weren't offering to wave anyone through, so 2 x 2 balls that were in front of me and my fellow paired up single playing partner, had to ask several times if they could play through, and were all allowed only on their 2nd or 3rd time of asking) it was an enjoyable round, and not overly-taxing with the plentiful wide fairways on most holes. Greens overall were in decent conditions, although some of the winter greens, could have been positioned better!
Course was closed
Allowed to book course for 17 pounds each and when we got there course was closed. Robbed.
One of the best courses
I was stunned how good this course was. The fairways are wide and the length of the holes are mostly plus 300 yards. The course is surrounded by wind turbines that adds to the ambience of nature in harmony with it surroundings.
The course has no shared fairways or Greens, unlike some other courses that cut corners and price themselves by snobbery not quality. The only down side was my ⛳, if your ball goes in the rough or trees it's a goner.
I definitely would play here again.
Lovely course
