Royal Musselburgh Golf Club

About
Royal Musselburgh Golf Club sits at the tip of the renowned span of golf fcourses along the East Lothian coast, and offers picture-perfect parkland play, making it a must-visit. Royal Musselburgh holds the honor of being the world's fifth-oldest, having started as the nine-hole links course, Musselburgh Levenhall. The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, Royal Burgess Golfing Society and Bruntsfield Golf Club have all golfed there.
Royal Musselbergh Golf Club's 349-yard par-4 first hole hides two fairway bunkers to the right. The 477-yard par-5 ninth requires three-shot play when fighting wind: The closer you get to the green after two strokes, the more difficult the pitch. Close down on the 410-yard par-4 18th, where it behooves golfers to carry a big stick, as going right off the tee, rather than carrying the drive to just in front of the green, is a major folly. Non members may pay to use the restaurant and bar, become social members, and get affordable course fare, as well as the chance to attend special events such as dances, buffets, and whisky tastings.

Great day out.
Really warm welcome, course really well kept and greens in excellent condition.
Later in the Clubhouse excellent service and very choice of good food served.
Will definitely be back and would recommend to friends.
Great course
Friendly helpful pro, excellent course in great condition.
Would love to play again one day.
Great afternoon of holf
Prefect weather, for a game of golf on a well looked after course, greens were well water and the ball bit and dug in!
Craig
Played this a few times and course was in great condition.
The price charged was really good. Cannot understand why the other course in Musselburgh charges £100 per round. Both courses are excellent but no logical reason for the vast price difference.
Greens were lush and smooth.
Will be back again soon.
Course was in great condition as always, fairways were nice albeit fiery (due to weather) greens ran perfectly at a good speed! As for the course layout, it may not be the memorable/exiting however it's not humdrum or a slog at any point. Staff were first class, very welcoming and helpful
Fantastic course
Fantastic course and very friendly and helpful staff unfortunately we were stuck behind a very slow 4 ball after the 4th hole whom refused to acknowledge us waiting lengthy times both at the tees and on the fairways and never once offered to allow us to play through causing a domino effect behind us also ruining what started of looking like a good round after pars at the first three holes and a bogie however the staff and the course were exemplary and would highly recommend
Royal Musselburgh
Great value for money. Very friendly staff. Good pace of play
Fantastic Greens
Course was really well presented and greens were immaculate
Impromptu golf outing
My wife and I decided to play a round while visiting in Edinburgh and came across this gem. Booked a tee time, cart and two sets of clubs for around £120. Arrived at the pro shop and met with the visitor registration office, who were extremely friendly and informative on the layout of the building with the history behind the course. Being the 6th oldest course, it’s absolutely beautiful.
The course is very challenging, several fairways in close proximity, but clearly defined. Narrow lanes that bend left and right with bunkers at the front of the greens add to the difficulty. Highly recommend, it was a great time for me and my wife.
Game after 150th Open
5 minutes in a taxi from Prestonpans train station was greeted in the pro shop with scorecard and locker room code and details. Very relaxed and informative. Course in very tidy condition. Not difficult but all areas were fair and greens were of a good speed. Front 9 is a chance to score if wedges are on form. Back 9 has a few more features holes. 13 is a good stroke one right of centre off the tee. Be aware of the crater on 14 par 3. 15 off the back is a great par 4 with views from the green down the forth. Lovely old clubhouse and nice selection of food and drinks. One of the oldest clubs in the world. Train back to Edinburgh and flight home. Great weekend
