Girvan
About
Girvan Golf Course is one of eight fine courses owned and managed by South Ayrshire Council. Although a municipal course it provides the only golf in Girvan and there is a thriving independent local club with the members having facilities within the municipal clubhouse.
The course, lying on the northern outskirts of the town, is unusual in that it is divided into two distinct parts. The opening eight holes are pure links, immediately adjacent the coastline, and the second ten holes are parkland. This latter part has the added problem of the river, from which the town takes its name, winding through the land. Care should be taken on the ninth tee, as this hole is named after the gentleman who stepped back to admire a good drive only to take an unscheduled dip in the river.

Cracking wee course
Great views over the Firth of Clyde for the first 8 holes. Greens were all in great conditions.
Some really nice bunkers around the course.
Really enjoyable course. Great for any young ones starting out.
What a Gem of a course
What a great course ,played back to back as bellaries course was closed so ended up doing a sunset round an sun rise the next day .. the chap at the start hub was brilliant very friendly an helpful an welcoming as was the members I met.
Course .. front 8 exceptional links coastal holes challenging both rounds .
Next 10 was parkland course long par 3s ... 1 250 + is definitely a par 4 .. 1 hole no 11 was wet fairway but the weather over the last couple of weeks have been flooded i believe feom the locals but its held up ... all in all great course highly recommended..
Fantastic Staff
Great value for money and staff were very helpful...even gave us a lift to the Train station after our round. Highly recommend.
Girvan Golf course
Great course, really enjoyed playing it. If you are short of time you can get 18 holes in under 3 hours.
19th hole refreshments were good and the staff really friendly and welcoming.
Excellent course
Played for the first time on Friday but it won't be the last. Checked in at the starter hut, very friendly welcome. Wind was quite wild which made the first 8 holes a great challenge. Play was a bit slow with a four ball of older guys in front but we were in no rush. Greens were excellent, 7 out of 5 for value for money. We travelled 90 mins to play but was well worth it and we'll definitely be back
Short course with long par 3s from the white tees
The first 8 holes along the coast require good interaction with the wind. The long par 3s uphill and/or against the wind must be mastered first.
After a short walk, holes 9 - 18 are played as parkland with wind support. Well-defended greens are good to play with tactical play.
The 15th hole is tough. Peeling the white tea is a bit of a challenge; About 130 yards to the river and to play directly above it you have to add up about 170 yards. This with a strong headwind and a slight climb. The second shot onto the green is another steep climb with a height difference of around 15 yards and no view of the flag.
The last 4 holes play with the height difference and are interesting to play.
Not without reason a junior championship place.
Love this coarse
Excellent little coarse in great condition went to Scotland to watch the open and had to play a li ks coarse and this had links and parkland d
Cracking course, great design.
First time played at Girvan, lovely, well designed course, George is a very friendly & welcoming staff member, very helpful at the start. Loved the course as I found it quite tricky. Will definitely book again.
A hidden gem
Very friendly staff.
Excellent course condition
Spent a bit of time trying to find the next tee box.
Altogether a great day golfing.
Good value
Nice course with beautifull seafront holes
Greens are in perfect condition
The inland holes are good
Very low greenfee
Wee gem
Short course but laid out well. Great value and has a Par 3 17th that is just such a challenge. Greens excellent.. Great veiws also.
I'm sure it's great in summer
A nice course, especially the first 8 holes. There was a good bit of casual water on the back 9 but it held up surprisingly well. It's not the longest but good fun and varied holes
Great Course
Played in Feb and March and for the time of year it’s in great condition.
Staff always friendly and welcoming
Can’t comment on club house as it’s winter
Great value for money
2 courses in one
Lovely course. First 8 holes are classic links with views across to Arran. Gorgeous. Then you move acorss the road to a parkland back 10, a bit less varied, although a couple of tricky holes, one a long (for me) carry over the river and another a par 3 which needs length and height to avoid getting stuck in the bank. Overall really enjoyable and not too scary for a novice.
