Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club

About
Challenging links course with magnificent views to the neighbouring island of Arran. The first twelve holes play along the beach and into the prevailing wind, which can make for a bit of a slog despite the short yardage. The narrow fairways require precise positioning, and the rough is punishing. An old water-filled quarry comes into play on the seventh and eighth holes.

Finally finally played this course
Been on my bucket list for many years. Unfortunately a very windy and wet day which made the front nine very difficult. Had a good back nine so no complaints! Greens in superb condition, true and fast. You need to plot your way around this course leaving yourself in the best position to hit and stay on the green with your second on the shorter par 4's.
Will be back.
Hidden Gem
Prestwick like for 1/3 the cost. Not long but has some tough holes that require your full concentration. #8, The Quarry needs a pinpoint drive with water on the right and a 2 nd shot out over part of the quarry. Despite the short yardage on the cad , the course has a good mix of short and longer holes. Greens in good shape although fairways and rough had some dry ,sparse areas. Definitely recommend.
Great day
Great day, typical links conditions for this time of year, windy and challenging but that why we play right? Greens in great nick!
All in all great day out
Like Arnie, "I'll be back"!
Seriously great golf course. First time playing it. The course is worth more than the £35 I paid per head. Considering the time of year and current weather, the course was in immaculate condition, greens were superb and rolling true. I had Soooooo much fun playing the course. It was hard in places and more accessible in others. Highlight for me was how difficult the second shot over the pond was! Risk and reward course. And playing on my birthday I loved it all. And the +2 round just finished it off for me.
Highly recommened.
Great test of golf.
Great course over all. Very well presented greens. Receptive yet fast and true. The tees were also nice. A short course although a couple of testing par 4 holes. The shortness is complemented by the layout making it a thinking mans course. Very enjoyable in my opinion. If I had to be critical at all I feel the 17th and 18th let it down. Lacks a good finishing standard to end the round. Would still highly recommend.
World class in every way
Best course in Scotland in my view and in superb condition. Staff superb and classy friendly. Members welcoming. The course a great test but playable. Best in class stunning holes I'd struggle to see a BETTER front nine in the uk
Links Golf on a mild winters day
Travelled down to Prestwick today for some Links Golf. The sun was shining, it was dry and hardly any wind. To our dismay we found ourselves hitting from little patches of astro turf that we had to carry with us and winter greens were in use. We overhead a disgruntled member tell another group that the head green keeper had the day off so no one would put the big greens back in play. This reduced the course to drives and pitching on nearly every hole. Very disappointed.
great links course
great links course, compact and easy to walk
Brilliant condition
Course was excellent condition. Currently using fairway mats which I didn't think was necessary as the course was in fantastic condition. Greens had seen some work but rolled well at a very good pace. Must be unbelievable in the middle of summer. Well worth the £25
Great Course - customer relation let the day down
Booked course and travelled several hours to play.
Lunch was very good with staff & food very good.
Commenced game but within 2 holes a very heavy fog came in and remained throughout.
Course was absolutely unplayable.
We finished the round, only as w had driven such a distance.
Course condition - first rate.
We enquired with starter re possibly of consideration of another complimentary round due to unplayable conditions but were completely rebutted and refused out of hand. Very unfortunate.
However- overall would recommend as you could not be so unlucky with weather.
Received the Full Links Experience
We could not have had a more traditional day in Scotland. We had wind, rain, sun and a great links golf course to challenge our US style of play. I really like the course due its play-ability for all the group members skill levels. With so many great views of the sea, salt houses, high heather and gorse, the course was up to all expectations for playing golf in Scotland. Go play it laddie.
